X-ray telescopes usually operate in space and are quite different from astronomical telescopes for visible light. For normal angles of incidence, optical light is reflected on the mirror surface, whereas X-rays are either transmitted or absorbed. However, also high reflectivity X-rays mirrors are possible, when the incident rays direction is almost parallel to the mirror surface. Such grazing incidence mirrors are usually coated with thin layers of precious metals like iridium, gold or platinum, as this result in high X-ray reflectivity. These noble metals offer a wide range of reflection up to high photon energies, but, due to a series of absorption edges, have low reflectivity in the 2 - 4 keV band and below. This contribution presents the development of innovative material combinations based on thin layers of iridium and chromium, followed by an additional layer of carbon-based materials. We also discuss corresponding production methods (like dip coating) for enhanced reflectivity mirror coatings of future X-ray telescopes.

We report on a comprehensive micromachining study of rotationally symmetric parts using femtosecond laser. A
laser turning process with tangential impingement of the laser radiation complemented by a trepanning optics is
implemented as to accomplish a true laser lathe micromachining approach. With the objective of optimized
ablation rate and reduced surface roughness, the influence of pulse energy, feed rate, trepanning diameter and
angular beam incidence, respectively, is investigated for processing stellite rods. We find the smallest feasible
feature sizes of 8.5 μm in diameter and smoothest surfaces with an arithmetic average of the roughness profile as
low as 0.18 μm. The surface roughness, however, appears to be limited by the occurrence of laser induced periodic
surface structures provoked by the femtosecond laser radiation. Furthermore, the variation of the fluence
in accordance to the incidence on a curved surface is discussed and the heat input into the material is examined
through a longitudinal cross section.
Laser turning with ultra-short laser pulses provides the possibility of manufacturing rotationally symmetric geometries, even of hard to machine materials as fused silica, down to a micrometer scale. In this laser micro machining approach, the laser beam is oriented perpendicularly to the rotational axis and tangentially to the material, whereas the target geometry is realized by moving the constantly rotating specimen according to the specified geometry under the focused laser spot. Due to the fric-tion-less laser ablation it is possible to realize a turning process in fused silica without the use of a contacting tool and therefore without causing mechanical tensions in the work piece. The processing head focuses the laser to a calculated spot size of 18 μm in diameter and the applied processing gas pressure assists in removing the ablated material. In this study, femto-second laser turning of fused silica with a diameter of 3.7 mm is investigated. The influence of the applied pulse energy is stated and the use of a trepanning optic during the turning process is characterized. Furthermore, compre-hensive parameter studies in order to optimize roughness and to find the maximum achievable abla-tion rate are shown. Limited by the mechanical speed of the rotational axis, the highest feasible abla-tion rate is 19.5 mm³/min. A roughness of Ra 0.65 μm are demonstrated.

Electric drives in road vehicles with a battery as energy storage are about to be introduced to the mass market. In order to guarantee the quality and operational safety of battery-powered vehicles, considerable efforts must be made by car manufacturers and their suppliers. Since the properties of the batteries significantly determine the performance of the vehicles, special test benches with precise measuring systems are required for the accurate determination of the battery properties. The safety devices of the traction batteries must also be tested on high-performance test benches. In this paper the necessary test benches and the corresponding measuring systems are presented. Estimations of the measurement uncertainty and possibilities to increase measurement accuracy are presented.
High Dynamic Power Balancing for Dual Two-Level Inverters during High-Speed Machine Operation
(2020)
This paper aims to present optimized square-wave modulation strategies for the dual two-level inverter, fed by two separate and galvanically isolated energy sources, to balance and control the energy distribution of both inverter systems. Especially for high-speed operation, the methods keep the machine in the required state while decreasing the switching operations to a minimum. Method one aims to compensate voltage fluctuations of variable DC-link voltages, while the second method ensures a symmetrical power distribution for the two inverter systems. In addition, both methods offer the possibility of adapting the amplitude of the usually fixed fundamental load voltage during square-wave modulation.
This paper aims to present an optimized inverter topology, based on the dual two-level inverter, for feeding an open-end winding electrical machine with superconductive stator windings and a superconductive rotor. In order to achieve a high torque density, the stator windings are built of several superconducting tapes being in parallel. One inverter of the dual two-level inverter is equipped with powerful IGBT semiconductors and supplies the machine with energy. The second inverter is a low voltage MOSFET inverter that monitors the superconductor resistance (quench detection) and balances the current on the parallel superconductive tapes for guaranteeing an optimum operation with respect to the superconductive losses.
In this contribution, a highly dynamic calculation method of power quantities and additional electrical quantities, such as RMS values and fundamental waveforms, is presented. Typically, these quantities are calculated periodically based on the fundamental cycle of the electrical voltages and currents. Hence, they are well defined during steady state conditions for ideal periodical waveforms. During dynamic balancing processes, electrical signals are non-periodic. In a strict sense, the fundamental cycle-based definitions, which are well known from the literature, are not valid for these transient signals. However, this paper presents a novel definition for the calculation of cycle-based quantities based on the switching cycle of the inverter output voltages. This definition delivers instantaneous results during transient balancing processes, whereby it approximates the conventional fundamental cycle-based definitions during the steady state.
This contribution presents an innovative approximation method for the estimation of power quantities, fundamental waveforms, and RMS values of inverter-fed electrical machines. Typically, all these parameters are calculated as cyclically linked to the fundamental cycle of the voltages and currents of the inverter output or machine input. In order to increase the dynamic of this calculation, a suitable evaluation method based on the inverter switching cycle has been presented in previous publications. The present paper extends this switching frequency-based analysis by introducing additional quantities such as apparent and reactive power. Moreover, the paper describes the utilization of this analysis method for a power control of a dual two-level inverter-fed application.
This paper reveals that the standard test procedures for the qualification and verification of traction battery systems are not sufficient in certain cases. In fact, realistic and application-oriented tests on the interaction among the complex battery subsystems are inevitable. To achieve these objectives, a high-performance test bench with the unique selling features of a high voltage/- and current range, extremely low ripple currents, and high dynamics is presented. For the operation of the applied multiphase current-sharing inverter for charging/discharging the device under test (DUT), special control algorithms, especially a current balancing control method, is introduced.
This paper will present different modulation schemes for optimizing the efficiency of low-voltage traction drives.
The converter of the vehicle automatically has to select the most suitable modulation or control scheme depending
on the present operating point in order to maximize the efficiency of the complete drive train. Furthermore, the
functional principles and algorithms of the individual modulation schemes will be presented, as well as the transition
between those schemes. Finally, the performance of the different schemes will be proved by dynamic and
stationary tests through fully automatized measurement analysis.
In this article, we present an approach to detect basic movements of cyclists in real world traffic situations based on image sequences, optical flow (OF) sequences, and past positions using a multi-stream 3D convolutional neural network (3D-ConvNet) architecture. To resolve occlusions of cyclists by other traffic participants or road structures, we use a wide angle stereo camera system mounted at a heavily frequented public intersection. We created a large dataset consisting of 1,639 video sequences containing cyclists, recorded in real world traffic, resulting in over 1.1 million samples. Through modeling the cyclists' behavior by a state machine of basic cyclist movements, our approach takes every situation into account and is not limited to certain scenarios. We compare our method to an approach solely based on position sequences. Both methods are evaluated taking into account frame wise and scene wise classification results of basic movements, and detection times of basic movement transitions, where our approach outperforms the position based approach by producing more reliable detections with shorter detection times. Our code and parts of our dataset are made publicly available.

We report on an optical setup for multi Bessel beam processing combining a refractive axicon and a spatial light modulator.
Based on their particular beam profile, Bessel beams exhibit various advantages over conventional Gaussian beams for
ultrashort pulsed laser processing. Especially for micromachining of transparent materials, applications such as micro-hole
drilling or the generation of voids benefit from the increased focal length of the applied Bessel beam. In addition, on
account of the significantly increased average output power of industrial ultrashort pulsed lasers over the last years, there
is a high demand on multi spot applications for using the available laser power in efficient production processes. Our
optical concept combines the dynamic possibilities of beam splitting using spatial light modulator with the benefits of
Bessel beams facilitating multi Bessel beam processing.
This study demonstrates and discusses a novel approach for the fabrication and rapid prototyping of monolithic photonic platforms comprising a ridge-type waveguide with integrated sensing structures. First, the bulk injection-molded cyclic olefin copolymer substrates are micromilled in order to define the physical extension of the ridge structure. Cross-sections down to 30 × 30 µm2, exhibiting a mean surface roughness of 300 nm, are achieved with this process. Subsequently, UV radiation is used to modify the ridge structure’s refractive index, which leads to the formation of an optical waveguide. By employing a phase mask, it is possible to equip the photonic platform with a Bragg grating suitable for temperature measurements with a sensitivity of −5.1 pm K-1. Furthermore, an integrated Fabry-Pérot cavity, generated during the micromilling step as well, enables refractive index measurements with sensitivities up to 1154 nm RIU-1.
This contribution demonstrates and discusses electrically tunable polymer planar Bragg gratings based on bulk cyclic olefin copolymers. A lithographic single-writing-step method and femtosecond laser reductive sintering of copper(II) oxide nanoparticles are subsequently employed in order to generate buried photonic structures and copper conducting paths on top of the polymer substrate. This way, the necessary number of process steps for fabricating a planar polymer-based electro-optical device is greatly reduced. The response of a fully electrified grating structure follows temperature changes, induced by the copper conducting path, with sensitivities up to −31 pm K−1. Dilatometric measurements show that the specimen's behavior is correlated to the situationally reduced thermal expansion of the bulk polymer substrate. In consequence, the tuning response of the photonic platform follows a second order polynomial, whereas a direct current of 30 mA, which correlates to a power consumption of 18.3 mW, leads to a local temperature increase and a residual Bragg wavelength shift of 19.6 K and −547 pm, respectively. Moreover, the outstanding flexibility of the proposed fabrication concept is underlined by demonstrating alternative conducting path geometries, whereas one of the additional designs is adapted to control the spectral width of the Bragg grating's reflection peak.
This cover image outlines the fabrication method of a polymer planar Bragg grating electrified via femtosecond laser reductive sintering of CuO nanoparticles (see article number 2002203 by Stefan Kefer and co-workers). Based on this sophisticated methodology, bulk cyclic olefin copolymer substrates can be equipped with integrated photonic structures comprising a waveguide as well as a Bragg grating. Its reflective characteristics can be efficiently tuned by means of the subsequently generated Cu conducting path, whereas the applied femtosecond laser process enables an almost limitless degree of freedom towards conducting path geometries.
Introduction
There is evidence that SARS-CoV2 has a particular affinity for kidney tissue and is often
associated with kidney failure.
Methods
We assessed whether proteinuria can be predictive of kidney failure, the development of
chronic kidney disease, and mortality in 37 critically ill COVID-19 patients. We used machine
learning (ML) methods as decision trees and cut-off points created by the OneR package to
add new aspects, even in smaller cohorts.
Results
Among a total of 37 patients, 24 suffered higher-grade renal failure, 20 of whom required kidney
replacement therapy. More than 40% of patients remained on hemodialysis after intensive
care unit discharge or died (27%). Due to frequent anuria proteinuria measured in two-thirds of
the patients, it was not predictive for the investigated endpoints; albuminuria was higher in
patients with AKI 3, but the difference was not significant. ML found cut-off points of >31.4 kg/
m2 for BMI and >69 years for age, constructed decision trees with great accuracy, and identified
highly predictive variables for outcome and remaining chronic kidney disease.
Conclusions
Different ML methods and their clinical application, especially decision trees, can provide
valuable support for clinical decisions. Presence of proteinuria was not predictive of CKD or
AKI and should be confirmed in a larger cohort.
Continuous glucose monitoring (CGM) improves treatment with lower blood glucose levels
and less patient effort. In combination with continuous insulin application, glycemic control
improves and hypoglycemic episodes should decrease. Direct feedback of CGM to continuous
subcutaneous insulin application, using an algorithm is called a closed-loop (CL)
artificial pancreas system. Commercial devices stop insulin application by predicting hypoglycemic
blood glucose levels through direct interaction between the sensor and pump. The
prediction is usually made for about 30 minutes and insulin delivery is restarted at the previous
level if a rise in blood glucose is predicted within the next 30 minutes (hybrid closed loop
system, HCL this is known as a predictive low glucose suspend system (PLGS)). In a fully
CL system, sensor and pump communicate permanently with each other. Hybrid closedloop
(HCL) systems, which require the user to estimate the meal size and provide a meal
insulin basis, are commercially available in Germany at the moment. These systems result
in fewer hyperglycemic and hypoglycemic episodes with improved glucose control. Open
source initiatives have provided support by building do-it-yourself CL (DIYCL) devices for
automated insulin application since 2014, and are used by a tech-savvy subgroup of
patients. The first commercial hybrid CL system has been available in Germany since September
2019. We surveyed 1054 patients to determine which devices are currently used,
which features would be in demand by potential users, and the benefits of DIYCL systems.
9.7% of these used a DIYCL system, while 50% would most likely trust these systems but
more than 85% of the patients would use a commercial closed loop system, if available. The
DIYCL users had a better glucose control regarding their time in range (TIR) and glycated
hemoglobin (HbA1c).

Das Stichwort „PropTech” kursiert bereits
seit einigen Jahren auf dem Immobilienmarkt
und bildet den Überbegriff für
Start-ups, die mit digitalen Technologien

Die daraus resultierende
Kleinteiligkeit von PropTech-Unternehmen
stößt in der immobilienwirtschaftlichen
Fachöffentlichkeit auf Kritik, führt
sie doch zu einer zunehmenden Intransparenz
und Komplexitätssteigerungen
innerhalb des Marktes. Die Mehrzahl der
bisher veröffentlichten Studien richtet ihr
Hauptaugenmerk dabei vor allem auf
die Perspektiven und Einschätzungen

PropTech Germany 2021 Studie
(2021)
PropTech-Charakteristika
€ an.
Metallic coatings made of precious metals (e.g. Ir, Pt or Au) with high atomic number Z have been traditionally employed at grazing incidence for X-rays reflection and focalization. These materials offer a range of reflection extended to higher energies, but also present a series of absorption edges, which limit the reflectivity in the 2-4 keV band and below. Therefore the search for alternative coatings, able to improve the reflection in the soft energy range, is particularly relevant for the development of future telescopes, like ATHENA (ESA), Lynx (NASA) and eXTP (CAS). Low-Z overcoatings (e.g. carbon or B4C), applied on top of the high-Z metallic layer, can enhance the reflectivity in the softer band (mainly below 2 keV), but conventional deposition methods for these materials are not easily compatible with some of the mainstream technologies for mirror fabrication (notably, the silicon pore optics that will be used for the ATHENA X-ray mission which is being implemented by ESA). In this work we discuss novel solutions (carbon-like overcoatings realized by dip coating or vapor phase deposition), which can be particularly convenient for the application to ATHENA and to future telescopes.

Low density overcoatings (mainly based on materials containing Carbon) onto usual hi Z materials (like Ir, Au or Pt) have been proposed more than 10 years ago for enhancing the X-ray reflectivity at low energy (between 0.5 and 4 keV) in X-ray astronomical optics. The hack is to use the total reflection from the low density material (which do not suffer much the photoelectric absorption) at low energy, while the photons at high energy are reflected by the high density material. Now for several future projects like e.g. ATHENA and eXTP it is foreseen the use of low density overcoatings that will importantly increase the effective area at low energy. In this poster we will discuss about the use of materials different from the ones considered so far, in particular based on a thin layer of Chromium followed by another layer of a Carbon-like material, and of novel approaches for their application.
For space-born astronomical X-ray telescopes, iridium-based reflective layer systems are known as highly effective
mirrors coatings. During the recent years, Aschaffenburg University of Applied Sciences and the Czech Technical
University in Prague jointly developed stress compensated chromium-iridium coatings for this application. To overcome the disturbing reflectivity reduction of the iridium absorption edge around 2 keV photon energy, thin overcoat layers of chromium were applied in addition. Now a prototype of a wide-field, imaging X-ray telescope
of Lobster Eye type is assembled at the company RIGAKU. For this purpose a small series of 34 mirrors based on 100 x 50 mm semiconductor grade silicon substrates has been coated at Aschaffenburg University. The applied tri-layer system consists of a stack of 40 nm chromium, which act as adhesive layer and compensates layer stress, a 30 nm iridium thick reflective layer, and an additional overcoat layer of 6 nm chromium. This layer system
have been analysed by AFM and TEM images. The mirrors are assembled into an aluminium frame to build a 2D Lobster Eye type telescope. The designed focal length of this wide field X-ray telescope is two meter. To study the performance of the tri-layer coating system, a twin LE telescope with convenient gold coatings was manufactured also. Performance measurements of both telescopes and under same conditions are planned at the PANTER test facility at the Max-Planck Institute for Extraterrestrial Physics. First experimental results,
their comparison with theoretical simulations and the comparison between both models will be presented in this contribution.
Iridium-based layer systems are highly effective mirror coatings for space-born X-ray telescopes. During the recent years, Aschaffenburg University of Applied Sciences and its partners developed stress compensated chromium-iridium coatings for such astronomical applications, using chromium as an adhesive layer between iridium reflective layer and mirror substrate. However, there was room for improvement: To overcome the disturbing reflectivity reduction of the iridium absorption edge around 2 keV photon energy, thin overcoat layers of chromium are applied in addition now. This layer system has been analyzed by atomic force microscopy and transmission electron microscopy images. Furthermore, the reflectivity of such innovative X-ray mirrors based on chromium-iridium tri-layer coatings was recently measured at PTB's four-crystal monochromator beamline at the synchrotron radiation facility BESSY II. The experimental results, obtained for photon energies between 1.9 keV and 11 keV at two grazing incidence angles (0.6 degree and 0.9 degree) and their comparison with corresponding simulations are presented in this contribution. When compared to simulations of pure iridium coatings, a significantly higher reflectivity was achieved especially in the soft X-ray regime between 2 keV and 4 keV. Such chromium-iridium tri-layer coatings have high potential to increase the effective area for X-ray telescopes in Lobster Eye Design, for Wolter-I type X-ray optics, and for silicon pore optics as considered for the ATHENA telescope of the European Space Agency.
The goal of this project is to develop satellite components for space-based astronomical satellite payloads. Thereby advanced materials like iridium and innovative manufacturing technologies will be applied. After environmental testing and space qualifications tests it is planned to do an astronomical experiment with a stratospheric balloon or a sounding rocket. The work is embedded in ACCASI („Aschaffenburg Competence Center for Astronomical and Space Instumentation“)
The current trend in development of low-cost satellites is based on small dimensions combined with advanced electronics. Traditionally, radiation-sensitive electronics on satellites are protected by tungsten or lead foils, which are high-density materials and contribute significantly to the overall mass of the satellite. Here, we design and investigate temperature-gradient-resistant lightweight silane-based composites containing micro- or nano-particles of W or WO3, taking inspiration from similar approaches in the medical field. While the polymeric matrix provides flexibility under thermal gradients (such as those occurring in satellites during their orbits) and low density, the particles enable shielding from soft X-rays and other radiation. For reference, thin tungsten films were deposited by magnetron sputtering. The properties of the two kinds of coatings were compared and the X-ray protective properties were investigated using both a custom-designed measurement setup and conventional X-ray absorption. The best performing radiation-protective coatings will be launched in a payload experiment on the INFANTE satellite.
The EU intends to restrict the use of critical fuels in space propulsion systems. These propellants like hydrazine are chemically aggressive, toxic and carcinogenic. Space propulsion of the future should be environmentally friendly, inexpensive, and easy to handle. Aschaffenburg University and DLR are currently developing environmentally friendly technologies for future satellite engines. Thereby rocket-grade hydrogen peroxide, which is foreseen as a substitute, is converted to uncritical water vapour and oxygen by an exothermic catalytic reaction on nanostructured iridium layers. The resulting hot gases provide the required amount of thrust. The iridium catalyst layers are coated onto ceramic pellets, using RF magnetron sputtering technology. The catalytic functionality was tested afterwards at the chemical laboratories of DLR. First experimental results show a significantly higher catalytic activity for nanostructured iridium surfaces than for smoother crystalline layers.
This paper conducts a thorough data analysis using cross-sectional data from a study carried out in Mexico including over 16,500 observations. In the study, clusters were selected in areas Compartamos Banco, a Microfinance institution (MFI), has not lent in before. The clusters were randomly assigned to either the treatment or the control group. The analysis suggests that Microfinance has a significant positive effect on school and food expenditure but no apparent effect on entrepreneurship. Using regression analysis, a significant positive effect on women’s empowerment and its positive effect on total consumption is found.
This article examines sentiment of 12,821 reports on cyber-attacks on firms around the world from 2011 to mid-year 2019. With theworld wide web (www) and associated technologies connecting opinions worldwide, sentiment in the world wide web is an importantperspective to understanding developments in cyber-attacks and the public opinion thereof, because much of the public debate isshared online. Such sentiment can potentially explain developments in regulation and may be indirectly associated with the buildingof defense mechanisms of cyber-victims. Results show that the quantity of reports on cyber-attacks on firms has been increasing, but the sentiment of reports on cyber-attacks has been decreasing. Both trends reflect the increasing severity of the issue and arelikely contributing to regulatory responses. Results also show that the sentiment is conditional to the source that reports the cyber-attack.
Electric vehicle (EV) development in China emerged with the 863 program (1986) for high technologies and has received support since the 10th Five Year Plan. While standards were of no particular importance in the early years of EV development, standards have increasingly become subject to policies and programs. For instance, the promotion of ‘indigenous' or ‘home-grown' innovation is perceived as means to develop domestic standards and contribute to international standards. Alongside this target, the Chinese government mandated the development of an EV standardization roadmap to serve as a guideline for optimizing standardization work, promoting technical innovation and large-scale industrialization. It was even considered that EV standardization was a novel standard field that has the potential to secure China a forerunner position in technological development as well as international standardization, regardless of standard-setting practices in the conventional automotive sector. Against this background, this paper examines the differences in system set-up and processes of standardization for the traditional automotive and the electric vehicles sector. While conventional automotive standardization is limited to a single sector with the Ministry of Industry of Information Technology and the China Automotive Technology and Research Centre in charge, electric vehicles require the participation of stakeholders from other sectors. Therefore, the negative influence from the conventional decentralized automotive sector on the development of common nationwide standards like the dynamics between national, regional and local actors cannot be deprived. Additionally, this paper also highlights learnings from EV standardization that might set positive impulses for conventional EV standardizations.
China is taking on a new role in international trade. One of the most prominent events highlighting this new role has been the speech of Xi Jinping, the president of the Peoples Republic in China (PRC), at the World Economic Forum (WEF) in 2017. His speech has become famous as pro-globalization speech. It contrasted with the anti-globalization tendency proclaimed throughout the US president’s election campaign, who had assumed office shortly after the speech at the 2017 WEF.
This book analyses why Chinese technology standards deviate from international standards. The research it contains is based on four periods of field research in Beijing that involved 70 expert interviews. The data gathered throughout these interviews resulted in a detailed case study on the Chinese standardisation system and particularly the electric vehicle sector. The book’s application of complexity theory shows that the evolvement of deviating standards is a substantial component in the development of the Chinese standardisation system. This is further explained by its use of a ‘Three Phase Standardisation Development Concept’. This book fills a gap in existing research, especially because it focuses on a developing country with a standardisation system that is in transition.
On November 8th, 1895, Professor Wilhelm Conrad Röntgen was still working late on cathode rays in his laboratory at the University of Würzburg in Germany. By chance, he found a new type of radiation that was able to penetrate materials. He himself called them X-rays. In his honour, in Germany we call this type of radiation Röntgen´s rays since 1896. In 2020, Germany was celebrating the Röntgen anniversary year, recognizing the discovery of X-rays 125 years ago and the 175th birthday of its discoverer Wilhelm Conrad Röntgen, the first Nobel laureate in physics. Financed by a grant from the Klaus Tschira Foundation, the Reiss-Engelhorn-Museums in Mannheim and the German Röntgen Museum in Remscheid developed an “X-periments mobile” with interactive experiments for children and young people. Following the given motto "X-periments - making the invisible visible", this research station with optical experiments started traveling across Germany in the anniversary year and, due to the corona pandemic in the following year. In summer 2021, the “X-periments mobile” will make a guest appearance at Aschaffenburg University. The experimental set-ups enable school classes and students to gain an overview of optical technologies from infrared light to ultraviolet radiation to X-rays and gamma rays. The aim of the campaign is to inspire the young generation and to attract students for courses in science and technology. This contribution presents the historical discovery of X-rays, the “X-periments mobile” and its experiments, its intention, and the experiences from its stays at different places across Germany.
Innovation process and innovation output is positively affected by adequate reference models and supporting means. For this reason, a New V-Model for mechatronic and smart systems has been worked out by the Technical Committee VDI GMA 4.10 "Interdisciplinary Product Creation". Thus, the directive VDI 2206 "Development methodology for mechatronic systems" from the year 2004 (VDI 2206 2004) is being revised and adapted to the actual trend towards digital transformation of technical systems, business models and ecosystems. The core of the guideline is the V-Model describing mechatronic engineering (VDI 2206 2004). One core success criterium of organizing Requirements Elicitation is the established main feature list first published by Pahl and Beitz (Pahl et al. 1996). Based on this, a new Main Feature List enhanced for the usage in requirements elicitation of mechatronic and smart products is proposed. This Enhanced Main Feature List comprises additional requirements such as sampling rate, bus system, big data usage and fosters result quality and efficiency of requirements elicitation. This was proven and validated by applying it to Inline spectral measurement systems in the printing industry. The proposed Enhanced Main Feature List establishes new fundamentals in research and theory.
One domain of application of artificial intelligence (AI) is decision support, particularly in management. Although there are already research streams examining the interaction of AI and humans (e.g. the stream on "hybrid intelligence"), there are still numerous open research gaps – for example, a comprehensive overview of which factors favor the intention to use AI is missing. By conducting a systematic literature review, we identify the factors that potentially positively influence AI usage intentions for decision-making processes in organizations. From this, we create a framework that both provides practical implications for the successful use of AI in organizational decision-making processes and delivers further research approaches, for example, on the validity/ usability of proven IS adoption models in the present context.
The usability of machine learning approaches for the development of in-situ process monitoring, automated anomaly detection and quality assurance for the selective laser melting (SLM) process receives currently increasing attention. For a given set of real machine data we compare two established methods, principal component analysis (PCA) and -variational autoencoder (-VAE), for their applicability in exploratory data analysis and anomaly detection. We introduce a PCA-based unsupervised feature extraction algorithm, which allows for root cause analysis of process anomalies. The -VAE enables a slightly more compact dimensionality reduction; we consider it an option for automated process monitoring systems.

Chaoticity Versus Stochasticity in Financial Markets: Are Daily S&P 500 Return Dynamics Chaotic?
(2021)
In this study, we present a combinatory chaos analysis of daily wavelet-filtered (denoised) S&P 500 returns (2000–2020) compared with respective surrogate datasets, Brownian motion returns and a Lorenz system realisation. We show that the dynamics of the S&P 500 return series consist of an almost equally divided combination of stochastic and deterministic chaos. The strange attractor of the S&P 500 return system is graphically displayed via Takens’ embedding and by spectral embedding in combination with Laplacian Eigenmaps. For the field of nonlinear and financial chaos research, we present a bibliometric analysis paired with citation network analysis. We critically discuss implications and future prospects.
We report on the effect of different transversal beam shapes on the efficiency of ablation processes and the resulting surface characteristics. A possibility to efficiently apply ultrashort pulsed lasers with high average power is beam shaping. By using a cooled reflective based liquid crystal spatial light modulator to generate different spot distributions, it is possible to spatially allocate the available power to avoid excessive high fluences. In our experiments, we determine the optimal fluence to ablate the maximum volume per watt to be in the range of 0.2-0.4 J/cm². Based on this fluence, we increase the number of spots from one to a maximum of twenty to ablate steel in a multilayer scanning-based process. In this context, we examine the influence of different separation distances between the spots on the ablation efficiency and roughness. Subsequently to these investigations, we develop an efficient roughing process with higher ablation rates and a nearly constant roughness.
Traditional small-scale biogas systems are struggling with several problems, e.g. reliability, limitations in the variety of feedstock, and costs. To overcome these problems a bag-reactor system, which includes stirring-units, was designed. The system has a capacity of 200 kg d 1 input and 5.0 m³ d-1 biogas output. Due to standardized components - available world-wide - the system could be built-up within one day. Also, maintenance and repair are manageable due to the standard components. The system could be operated with different feedstocks, does not need water for dilution and no electricity. From 2015 to 2020 a total of 40 of these biogas plants were installed in South/Middle America. The experiences from the plant operators were collected. Analyzes of gas quality and quantity as well as the quality of the residues were done. It shows that the gas production is stable, and the gas could be used for heating and electricity generation. The nutrition value of the residues is 2.5-times higher compared to the input materials, the plant tolerance also increases. It shows that small-scale biogas plants could be adapted to local requirements. It increases the added value in rural areas, reduces the purchase of fertilizers and fuels and reduces emissions.
