Das Unternehmen als Marke
(2017)

While many stationary dealers have already adapted to the growing requirements of customers with respect to Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR), many e-business companies have not yet made this pioneering position shift. However, a sustainable harmonization of e-commerce platforms to the needs of green customers1 is an indispensability to survive for many online merchants in the competitive market in the future. Even today, many of the critical customers of Generation Y face an almost insoluble dilemma. Although they want to benefit from the numerous advantages of online trading, at the same time they also want to act in accordance with their personal values and morals. The resulting tension results in the last resort, either in a purchase, which for reflecting customers, “does not feel good” or in making the decision not to purchase due to the internal discrepancy. The object of the online businesses is, therefore, to largely minimize or eliminate the pressure in order to appeal to those customers who expect the social and environmental responsibilities from online retailers. But who exactly are the customers? How can this balancing act between e-commerce on the one hand and CSR on the other side be mastered?

Was geht und was bleibt?
Sustainability and eco-friendliness is gaining considerable attention within the hotel industry (Chen, Sloan & Legrand, 2009; Kim & Han, 2010). There has been a growing awareness of the environmental and social influence of hotel operation and development among customers, operators and investors. (Chen and Peng, 2012; Jones, Hillier & Comfort, 2014; Pryce, 2001). Especially hotel customers’ demands for environmentally responsible lodging have been rapidly increasing in recent years (Chen and Tung, 2014; Han, 2015). Sustainability is therefore regarded as one of the key issues within the global lodging industry (Jones, Hillier & Comfort, 2014) and one of the most important drivers for innovations in tourism in general. Considering that today’s customers are more and more sensitive to sustainable matters and are willing to change their consumption habits to reduce environmental and social harms, it is becoming inevitable for hotels to establish a sustainable orientation and to develop sustainable innovations. Otherwise the hotels are not able to maintain competitiveness or obtain competitive advantages in the lodging marketplace. (Chen and Peng, 2012; Jones, Hillier & Comfort, 2014; Hofmeister-Toth et al., 2011; Kim and Han, 2010; Manaktola and Jauhari, 2007).

The majority of coaches experience negative effects from coaching, but little is known of what determines their occurrence. This study investigates the relationship between negative effects for clients and for coaches from both clients’ and coaches’ perspectives. It also analyses the role of coaches’ neuroticism and the use of supervision in this relationship. A randomised controlled field experiment with a student sample was used, where half group of the coaches received supervision during coaching and the other half received supervision after coaching was completed. Results show a strong positive relationship between negative effects for coaches and clients, but only from the coaches’ perspective. This relationship was stronger when coaches’ neuroticism was high, but only when coaches did not use supervision during coaching. These findings support the impact of negative effects for clients on negative effects for coaches from the coaches’ perspective and discuss supervision as an intervention to mitigate this relationship.

Abstract
Against the background of demographic and digital change, maintaining work ability within a company’s workforce is a crucial challenge. In this conceptually based article a novel understanding of leadership is presented which deals with the potential of emerging diversity by considering each individual’s psychological employment contract and organisational commitment to offers of support. The innovative starting point for strategic human resource management is idiosyncratic contracts (I-deals); individual and personal agreements which generate advantages for both managers and employees and complement collective bargaining agreements. Therefore, I-deals introduce possibilities for the experimental testing of “Arbeit 4.0” (Work 4.0) or “Bundesteilhabegesetz”(Federal Law on Participation) or “Flexirentengesetz”( law on flexible pensions) in Germany. First empirical studies have shown that special arrangements forgiven tasks and areas of responsibility as well as those that have an effect on the time perspective to remain in employment are well suited to elderly workers. Due to the lack of empirical evidence, the need for further empirical research is necessary in order to examine effects, as well as possible unintended interdependencies, of I-deals in practice.
BACKGROUND
Microbial community dynamics during the anaerobic digestion of vinasse has been little studied. However, having knowledge about it is essential for early detection of reactor operational difficulties to apply preventive actions. This research studies the microbial community dynamics in the anaerobic digestion of vinasse, linking to experimental observations about product yields and organic matter degradation.
RESULTS
Methane and sulfide yields decreased with increasing SO42‐/COD ratio, while the fraction of organic matter degraded by sulfate reducing bacteria increased from 4.5 ± 0.3% to 27.1 ± 0.6%. The archaeal community showed that acetoclastic Methanosaetaceae were little affected by the increase of the SO42‐/COD ratio, in contrast to the Methanomicrobiales and Methanobacteriales population, which decreased during the experiment. The total bacterial diversity was influenced mainly by substrate composition, showing that the increase of the SO42‐/COD ratio above 0.10 shifted the bacterial community to a lower richness.
CONCLUSION
These results provide knowledge on the dynamics of the microbial communities, which can be useful to control the anaerobic digestion of sulfate‐rich vinasses, showing that reactor stability equates to the higher ratios between total methanogens and total bacteria gene copy numbers, whereas operational difficulties can be associated to lower bacterial richness and higher community organization.
The conversion efficiency of high solids waste digestion as sugarcane press mud (P) may be limited due to hydrolysis step. The option of co-digestion with vinasse, main liquid waste generated from ethanol production, was investigated under batch regime at mesophilic conditions (37.5 ± 1 °C) and the best mixture was evaluated under semicontinuous regime in stirred-tank reactors. The maximum values for methane yield in batch tests were for V75/P25 and V50/P50 mixtures (on basis of the chemical oxygen demand (COD) percentage added in the mixture), with an average value of 246 N mL CH4 g−1 CODfed, which was 13% higher than that of press mud alone. A highest methane production rate of 69.6 N mL CH4 g−1 CODfed−1 d−1 was obtained for the mixtureV75/P25. During the experiment carried out in CSTR reactors, the organic loading rate (OLR) was increased from 0.5 up to 2.2 g VS L−1 d−1. Methane yields of 365 L CH4 kg−1 VS and biogas productivities of 1.6 L L−1 were obtained in co-digestion, which was 64% higher in comparison to mono-digestion. The performance of the process in mono-digestion was less stable than in co-digestion, with a significant fall of methane yield to 1.8 kg VS m−3 d−1, and a partial inhibition of the methanogenic archaeas when the OLR was increased up to 2.2 kg VS m−3 d−1. The co-digestion of vinasse with press mud is a good option for the treatment of streams at the alcohol-sugar industry.

This book provides a comprehensive review of the state-of-the-art on the adaptive and maladaptive functions of humor. Humor is inescapable in our daily interactions - also at the work place. Affiliative, self-enhancing, self-deprecating and aggressive humor can all occur at work and have unique and sometimes ambiguous effects. The volume presents humor research on five important workplace topics: teams, leadership, negotiation, learning, and health. It combines and integrates research from a range of fields, including work and organizational psychology, social psychology, communication, linguistics and sociology. In highlighting research gaps and stating future research questions, the book provides a sufficient starting point for further research on humor in relation to the aforementioned topics. For practitioners, recommendations are provided specific to each area.
Psychological safety is the shared belief that the team is safe for interpersonal risk-taking. Critical team events such as conflict and faultlines (hypothetical lines that split a team into subgroups) should impact psychological safety. Previous research has shown the benefits of task conflict on team outcomes under certain conditions and the consistently negative effects of demographic faultline strength on team outcomes. We propose that being close to the principal (what we call belonging to the principal’s in-group) should help attenuate the negative effects of task conflict and faultlines among teachers, because it is associated with a more effective working relationship. In a survey study with 244 teachers from 45 primary schools, we tested the moderating effect of belonging to the principal’s in-group vs. belonging to an out-group on the relationships of task conflict and faultlines on psychological safety. Results of multilevel model tests showed that relationship conflict (but not task conflict) and faultlines decreased psychological safety. However, when teachers belonged to the principal’s in-group as compared to an out-group, task conflict had no negative effect on psychological safety. We present implications to bridge the negative effects due to subgroup presence, so that psychological safety can become a resource for all.

We report on the training of graduate students as job application trainers within a train-the-trainer program. This program consists of two phases: in the first phase of the program, graduate students are trained to become job application trainers and in the second phase, the students give trainings to refugees whom they recruit themselves. Given the multiplier effect of this didactic approach, many refugees may be reached.
To evaluate the effectiveness of the first phase of the program for the students, we conducted a questionnaire and interview study. Results of the evaluation show the following: based on their past experience, the participants of the program were more likely to be encouraged by their families to help others than the participants in a control group. In addition, they were more motivated to volunteer deliberately and actively. Furthermore, all necessary core competencies for training performance improved over time. We were also able to predict participants’ intentions to volunteer and their attitude towards labor market integration of refugees. We discuss challenges of the program’s implementation.
This is a joint analysis by SRH University Berlin and Michael Lutz, Project Leader at The
Boston Consulting Group, of the crucial role of human resources (HR) in the integration phase of mergers and acquisitions (M&A), contributing a new perspective to the classic approach with its heavy bias towards quantitative measures. The conducted analysis of literature research as well as the evaluation of experiences by various experts aims to provide further understanding of the diverse reasons for the outcome of (un)sustainable M&A activities.
Research shows that most M&A activities fail in the long run because the classic approach during the three phases (1) pre-merger planning, (2) the merger itself, and (3) the post-merger-integration phase focuses on quantitative issues and insufficiently incorporates HR and cultural topics.
HR is integral for every M&A, as well as for the restructuring and change projects that often accompany mergers. Therefore, failing to adequately include employees in the M&A phases is one of the gravest risks while conducting a merger.
This article describes in detail the challenges faced when conducting an M&A with regard to
HR implementation and presents advise and tools for how to successfully mitigate an M&A failure due to insufficient HR implementation.
The importance of a trusted brand seems to be underestimated by mid-tier players in business-to-business (B2B) supply chains. This paper analyses the role of branding for distributors in the context of a dynamic, competitive and disruptive market ie the lighting industry, as well as exploring the effects of changes in the behaviour and expectations of installers and contractors as the important customer group of electrical wholesalers. Interestingly, there is a dearth of research and data on the subjects of our research. We carried out personal interviews among 141 representatives of wholesalers and distributors and surveyed more than 2,000 electrical installers and contractors across five markets. We used a combination of correspondence and cluster analyses to evaluate the results of our survey and identified five distinct segments of electrical installers across the five countries. Our primary research reveals that price pressure is not the only major challenge facing wholesalers in the future. Adding real customer value through product and service innovations, adopting a customer-centric approach, and managing the transition to digital business are also important concerns. In light of these insights, developing and sustaining an appropriate brand proposition — one that includes knowing and catering to specific installer segments — seems important for electrical wholesalers. In this paper, the authors explain the four most important elements for a strong brand: a deep understanding of the customer, a strong value proposition based on the customer's needs, perfect execution of all customer touch points, and a performance management system that includes brand as a KPI.
Diversity faultlines can have a detrimental impact on team performance. To test whether this impact depends on leaders’ and members’ pro-diversity beliefs, we examined 41 leaders and 219 members of teams working for the German Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Findings indicated that the negative impact of diversity faultlines on team performance was weakest when leaders and members held strong pro-diversity beliefs. However, we did not find support for the assumed two-way interactions between faultline strength and leaders’ or members’ pro-diversity beliefs or the mediating effect of Leader-Member Exchange. Our results highlight the joint impact of leaders’ and members’ pro-diversity beliefs for attenuating the negative consequences of diversity faultlines on team performance.
The aim of this study is to contribute towards developing an in-depth theory of the social and cultural norms that govern risk-taking and innovative behaviour in India, a field in which there has been little research to date. Qualitative data on this aspect of Indian entrepreneurial culture were collected in the Bangalore, Chennai, Delhi and Mumbai industrial regions. The study is mainly based on qualitative expert interviews and participant observation of entrepreneurs. The chapter introduces the whole study and presents first findings from an in-depth analysis of the risk-taking behaviour of two Indian managers. The chapter is part of a larger comparative study whose aim is to compare the social norms that govern risk-taking behaviour in India, Japan and Germany.
Over the last decade empirical legal studies have become a popular subfield of legal research. Legal scholars have increasingly begun to employ social science research methods in their attempts to provide answers to research questions in the field of law. The goal of empirical legal research is to make a contribution to all subjects and phenomena that are of interest to law and for which no methods have previously been available. The use of empirical methods in legal science can lead to results that cannot be achieved by the methods of traditional law research. The ultimate aim of the approach is to contribute to a systematic understanding of our legal system based on empirical data. In this article I give an overview of the development of empirical legal studies as an independent subfield of legal research, followed by an introduction to two popular studies to illustrate the potential and limitations of this new field of research. I then discuss some controversial topics such as the widespread view that empirical research is
objective and value-free, the relevance of methodological problems and the problem of over-simplification of the complexity of legal issues. I conclude with a look at future prospects for empirical legal research.
Law is firmly established as an integral and independent component of most business and economics degree courses. The objective of this article is to examine the contents and teaching methods generally employed in the law courses required for degrees in business and economics. As a rule both the contents and the teaching methods are adopted from degree courses for law students. However, to date there has been little discussion as to whether teaching procedures that have been developed for law students are also suitable for business and economics students. The article shows what problems can arise if course contents and teaching methods are adopted without reflection and without adapting them to the needs of the target group. This overview is then taken as a basis for a proposal as to how the content of law courses can be taught in a practice-oriented way, adapting and further developing the curricula that have proved suitable for law students to the needs of students of business and economics. The use of presentations of the legal life cycle of business organisations and discussions of management case studies on legal problems as didactic models are introduced and practical teaching issues are discussed. The aim is to raise students’ awareness of the legal problems that are important in running a company and to teach them skills that they can later use to deal with problems in their daily work.
This paper shows how the behaviour of a single change agent affected outcomes. The mechanisms were demonstrated through which actions contributed to the non-achievement of planned outcomes and to the appearance of unintended, unwanted and unpredicted outcomes. The investigating was carried to establish if there were differences between good and bad change agents and also to investigate a change in an organisation with offices in several locations and analyse what happens when an organisational level change is implemented at each of the sites. By doing so we will be able to make comparisons between several change agents in a similar situation. Comparison change processes in several companies to determine the role played by structure in change management compares to the role played by agency.

Forex-Devisenhandel
(2016)
The world is spinning faster than ever before. What the Polish sociologist Zygmunt Bauman once called “fluid modernity” has become the most relevant characteristic of our restless times. It seems as if absolutely nothing is of continuity: neither basic values nor once powerful institutions can withdraw themselves from this engrossing maelstrom of post-modernism. The same applies to physical spaces and knowledge itself, leaving us with a most uneasy feeling caused by the dissolving blur of truth. What we could believe in yesterday is about to fall into the clutches of liquidation. The whole world is subject to a completely uncontrollable and inexorable process of delimitation: Bigger, faster, higher, louder, are far more the prevailing keywords of the early 21st century, leaving us all behind in a constant fear about ourselves...
Germany has an enviable reputation. Around the world, the country is famous for writers like JW Goethe, Thomas Mann and Bertolt Brecht, for composers like the Bach family, Beethoven and Brahms, for artists like Albrecht Dürer, Paul Klee and Gerhard Richter, for philosophers like Friedrich Nietzsche, Karl Marx and Immanuel Kant. Germany is also renowned for its achievements in science, technology and engineering. Where was the car invented? Where were the first aspirin tablets produced? In which country were the first X-rays made? The first modern football boots? The answer to all these questions, of course, is Germany, a country that is famous for inventions and patents that have changed the world.
But which country is not performing very well in start-ups – an area where success is essential for a thriving economy? Again, the answer is Germany. Compared to the United States, Germany is lagging behind in all the key metrics. When we contrast Germany to the United States, taking population size into account, Germany has fewer successful start-ups. This book provides a great deal of evidence that shows that a healthy start-up scene is becoming ever more critical in assuring the long-term performance of a country’s economy. This fact has been recognised by governments, but not all of them are dealing with this issue with well thought out plans and policies, or if they have such plans, they are not being well implemented...

Patients look carefully for detailed information pertaining to their expectations before selecting a healthcare service provider. In order to meet these expectations and achieve patient wellbeing, healthcare service providers should understand more the importance of sustainable hospital servicescape designs for their patients jointly with the common focus on functionality in the medical procedures. The importance of the servicescape in creating a healing environment for patients has been shown through Evidence-Based Design research. The rising importance of consumer wellbeing and sustainability is shown in Transformative Service Research. The aim of this study is to bridge the gap between the two research fields to develop guidelines for future hospital servicescapes in developing countries. The application of this study is on Egypt because of the deterioration of its healthcare service provision. Results indicate that patients find plants and greenery, safety, and single rooms as the most important aspects to improve their wellbeing state. These results indicate that patients want to receive their basic treatment in a healing environment without mistakes. The achieved results act as guidelines for improving servicescapes of hospitals in Egypt and other developing countries. This contributes to hospital managers by offering a more sustainable competitive advantage. Contributions for future research are related to testing the effect of the servicescape on patient wellbeing by combining all servicescape aspects in one model.
This paper provides an overview of cloud governance aspects based on a representative survey of trends in the perception, assessment and adoption of cloud computing within the enterprise. The survey was conducted through a twofold research approach and combined a meta-study of existing and published empirical studies with an own empirical study within a representative group of European and international enterprises. We consider governance through the prism of adoption drivers and focus on the role of cloud brokers and cloud marketplaces more specifically, as well as the inclusion of semantic based strategies oriented to enhance the quality of service offered by cloud service brokers.
Assessment of Continuing Educational Measures in Software Engineering: a View from the Industry
(2016)
In a field like Software Engineering, highly dependent on knowledge, continuing education is key to warrantee business sustainability. In this scenario, relying on continuing educational measures is crucial to support organizations in their competence management programs. In order to validate a set of measures, in this paper an interview study regarding continuing education measures is reported. The study was carried out in late 2014, early 2015 with some of the most experienced SE professionals from the consulting company BearingPoint. Study findings suggest an increasing relevance of such educational measures. Furthermore, authors provide insights about relevant educational measures, improvement areas in employees’ training, commonly experienced problems, as well as instruments for control and evaluation.
In this work a tailored approach for requirements engineering for risk management solutions is presented. The approach focuses on cross-disciplinary risk paradigms in inpatient healthcare and aims to provide a novel methodology that accounts for specific viewpoints of relevant expert groups. The presented results demonstrate the feasibility and usefulness of the approach in the context of the current evaluation within the German market.
Purpose Without effective implementation, no information technology (IT) strategy can succeed. There has been much re-search into IT planning, but few studies have developed one of the most important phases of IT strategy: IT Implementation. IT implementation can be improved at information and communication technology (ICT) organizations through the use of organization learning models (OLM) and the implementation of ICT tools. This paper has two purposes define an OLM framework that determines the best practices to increase knowledge at individual, group and/organizational levels, and define and implement an ICT tool to facilitate the integration and institutionalization of the OLM. The ICT tool is based on the technology roadmapping technique that allows an organization to manage at an executive level what, when and how the IT strategy is going to be implemented. Design/methodology/approach This paper is based on a case study performed at an ICT organization that provides ICT services to financial institutions. The study was carried out in 2014. It analyzed over 24,000 projects, which translated into an equivalent of more than 18 million man-hours. The proposal was assessed at a very large ICT organization. Findings This paper proposes a framework called SPIDER to effectively implement OLMs based on Big Data management principles for monitoring and reporting current status of IT innovation strategies. These kinds of approaches contribute to solve the problems identified in the state-of-the-art regarding the communication and monitoring the implementation status of IT innovation strategies. During this research work, several factors that are essential to implement these kinds of approaches in large banking organizations were identified: effort required to elaborate the monitoring and reporting activities; easiness to understand the reported information; detailed planning of the implementation program; and focus on communication efficiency. Originality/value This paper determined the best practices to manage knowledge generated during the implementation of an IT strategy. Additionally, this paper defined and implemented an ICT tool to properly communicate and monitor the implementation of an IT innovation strategy, based on technological roadmap techniques.
Loyalty in tourism is one of the main concerns for tourist organizations and researchers alike. Recently, technology in general and CRM and social networks in particular have been identified as important enablers for loyalty in tourism. This paper presents POST-VIA 360, a platform devoted to support the whole life-cycle of tourism loyalty after the first visit. The system is designed to collect data from the initial visit by means of pervasive approaches. Once data is analysed, POST-VIA 360 produces accurate after visit data and, once returned, is able to offer relevant recommendations based on positioning and bio-inspired recommender systems. To validate the system, a case study comparing recommendations from the POST-VIA 360 and a group of experts was conducted. Results show that the accuracy of system’s recommendations is remarkable compared to previous efforts in the field.
Due to an unsatisfying demographic development in most European states, companies have to solve a trade-off between a needed increase of productivity on the one hand and fewer highly skilled employees on the other hand. In this paper, authors propose factors for different layers of a framework to manage scarce resources in IT-departments. These layers aim for different relevant dimensions of employee satisfaction like wages, psychological development of employees and work life balance. Authors present a structured literature review to screen relevant publications on the topic. This paper offers white range of different factors regarding the management of labour shortage and highly skilled employees in companies which can be used to build a holistic model or framework to solve the challenges of the upcoming demographic change in Europe. Although the topic is quite popular in scientific literature, there is not a study devoted to identify these factors in organizational contexts. This paper is aimed to bridge this gap.
Modern day labour market is influenced by different factors, mainly by ambitious investment in latest machinery, office automation software systems and computer-based solutions. Utilization of computer has benefited the employment market on vast scale, depending on the requirements of a particular business, its size and financial capabilities, and the intention to use. Furthermore, unparalleled technologies, such as cloud computing and smart technologies has directly affected demand for modern day labour. Nowadays, the utility model of cloud computing made it more popular and a favourite choice for the institutes to free up their internal resources and also reduce the number of administrative staff needed to maintain it. With certain kinds of offerings, institutes operating at small scales are also benefitting, which was almost impossible only a decade ago. Given that, the successful utilization of cloud computing remains a topic of extra ordinary importance among the scholars, experts, interested groups and several other institutions, and is defined in different ways according to their particular understanding and usage. But cloud is best defined by National institutes of standard and technology.
Sound research demonstrates the substantial positive effects of business coaching, but little is known about potential side effects. This study sheds light on the characteristics of side effects of coaching from the coachees' perspective and investigates three possible predictors: relationship quality between coach and coachee, the coach's expertise, and the coachees' motivation to change. Data was collected in a time-lagged design from 111 coachees who received business coaching in Germany. Coachees reported that side effects were frequent but with low to moderate intensity. The number of side effects was negatively associated with relationship quality at both measurement times and with coach's expertise at Time 1. Results expand knowledge about side effects of coaching and reveal opportunities for how they can be reduced.
Purpose – The purpose of this study is to analyze how embedding of self-powered wireless sensors into cloud computing further enables such a system to become a sustainable part of work environment.
Design/methodology/approach – This is exemplified by an application scenario in healthcare that was developed in the context of the OpSIT project in Germany. A clearly outlined three-layer architecture, in the sense of Internet of Things, is presented. It provides the basis for integrating a broad range of sensors into smart healthcare infrastructure. More specifically, by making use of short-range communication sensors (sensing layer), gateways which implement data transmission and low-level computation (fog layer) and cloud computing for processing the data (application layer).
Findings – A technical in-depth analysis of the first two layers of the infrastructure is given to provereliability and to determine the communication quality and availability in real-world scenarios. Furthermore, two example use-cases that directly apply to a healthcare environment are examined, concluding with the feasibility of the presented approach.
Practical implications – Finally, the next research steps, oriented towards the semantic tagging and classification of data received from sensors, and the usage of advanced artificial intelligence-based algorithms on this information to produce useful knowledge, are described together with the derived social benefits.
Originality/value – The work presents an innovative, extensible and scalable system, proven to be
useful in healthcare environments.
Adjustment and cost-effectiveness are key elements of a successful Information Security Management System (ISMS). ISMS-Processes, as basic elements of every ISMS, need to be aligned to the organization and its mission. As of today, a specific ISMS process framework does not exist. ISMS processes are not in focus of current research. This article aims to fill this research gap by presenting results of a process mapping study regarding ISMS processes in the most important and widely accepted international standards for Information Security Management. Authors propose a set of ISMS processes within an ISMS process framework which should be implemented at an individually appropriate maturity level.
ISMS core processes: a study
(2016)
Adjustment and cost-effectiveness are key elements of a successful Information Security Management System (ISMS). ISMS-Processes, as basic elements of every ISMS, need to be aligned to the organization and their mission. Actually a specific ISMS process framework which clearly differentiates between ISMS processes and security measures controlled by ISMS-processes does not exist. ISMS processes itself are not focused in current research. This article will fill this research gap while containing the results of a study to identify criteria for ISMS core processes as well as to identify relevant ISMS core processes.
Nowadays efficiency and quality of education is controversially discussed by politicians as well as by scientists. A number of important studies point out the necessity of improvements in the field of education. Using learning management systems might be a chance for institutes of higher education to face the demands of today.
In this paper we evaluate the need of learning management systems for higher education organisations. A value chain for organisations of higher education has been developed to categorize and to describe generic task. By conducting an empirical analysis through the academic task carriers (professors, students and administration department) we could identify the need for supporting each task by learning management system. The paper aims to describe a generic evaluation method for learning management systems. A comprehensive description of the evaluation method and results of the empirical analysis are presented in detail.
Negative Effekte von Coaching für Klienten - Definition, Häufigkeiten, Kategorien und Ursachen
(2016)
Emotional exhaustion and depression pose a threat to employees' psychological health. Social relationships at work are important potential buffers against these threats, but the corresponding psychological processes are still unclear. We propose that the subjective experience of high-quality relationships with supervisors (i.e., Leader–Member Exchange [LMX]) is one of the protective factors against psychological health issues at work and that this effect is mediated by psychological empowerment. We tested these assumptions with two studies (one cross-sectional and one time lagged) on diverse samples of employees from different organizations. The first study employed emotional exhaustion as the outcome measure; the second used depression. Results from both studies support the proposed process by showing that LMX positively affects empowerment, which negatively affects emotional exhaustion (Study 1) and depression (Study 2). Additionally, Study 2 also showed that Team–Member Exchange is as important as LMX for preventing psychological health issues among employees.
We supplement broad definitions of leadership behaviour with the concept of micro-level leadership behaviour, leaders’ verbal and non-verbal visible conduct and interaction. For the context of team decision-making, we identify two potentially beneficial micro-level leadership behaviours, question asking and behavioural mimicry. Specifically, we propose that under conditions of informational complexity and unshared information, participative leadership is most appropriate for team decision-making, that its effects are mediated by inquiring and empathy, and that question asking and mimicry are the behavioural micro-level manifestations of inquiring and empathy. We thus hypothesize that the effect of participative leadership on team decision quality and leader evaluation is mediated by question asking and mimicry. We conduct a laboratory experiment with student teams working on a hidden profile decision-making task and measure question asking through behavioural coding and mimicry with motion sensors. Results show that the effect of participative leadership on decision quality is mediated by question asking, and that the effect of participative leadership on leader evaluation as transformational is mediated by leaders’ behavioural mimicry and question asking. Under control of these micro-level behaviours, team decision quality and leader evaluations were unrelated.
This article reflects upon the potential role of humour during an organisational change process. We focus on three facets that are of special importance during change: coping with the change, resisting the change, and leading the change. For each facet, we present relevant quantitative and qualitative studies; and in a final section, we derive implications for employees, leaders, and organisations.
In regards to coping with change, we focus on the stress-buffering effects of humour. High-humour individuals maintain higher levels of positive affect in stressful situations and appraise a potentially stressful event as a positive challenge rather than a threat. In regards to resisting change, we show that aggressive humour can be an indicator of serious distress and a means to express resistance towards authority or aspects of the change process. In regards to leading change, we point out how effective leaders may utilise humour to manage followers’ emotions in order to increase positive affect and to reduce perceived threat associated with change.
We conclude by suggesting how humour can be used as a diagnostic tool, to foster a humour-supportive climate, to improve communication strategies, and to support an error management culture.
A crucial attribute of genetically stratifying personalised medicine technologies is the combination of a biomarker test (or a set of more than one) and a therapeutic decision which is made according to the test results. The biomarker test – often called a ‘companion diagnostic’ – is an essential part of the personalised medicine treatment strategy. The US FDA (Food and Drug Administration) approval agency even stated in a recent reflection paper that it would not approve a new drug without the companion biomarker test if a marker is known (FDA, 2011).
According to drug manufacturers, the pharmaceutical industry is suffering from an ‘innovation crisis’. Nowadays, the development of new products requires significantly more investment than in the past. Most of the simple but useful chemical entities seem to have been discovered already. Moreover, many topselling drugs lose their patent protection (‘patent cliff ’) and, subsequently, prices and sales of the original drug are undermined by competing generics. Producers try to compensate for the loss of sales by launches of new molecular entities (Jimenez, 2012). However, the new compounds generate fewer sales. As market observers calculated, new products launched in the period from 2001 to 2005 achieved annual average sales of USD 208 million after three years. New products of the period from 2006 to 2010 reached only USD 143 million (Rockoff and Winslow, 2013). Development of a drug which yields more than a billion USD per year (‘blockbuster’) succeeds less often. Drugs combined with biomarker-based diagnostic tests, stratifying patients into groups characterised by different drug reactions, appear to be one way out of trouble, because a new generation of patented products seems attainable (Scollen and Phelan, 2014).
‘Personalised medicine’ (PM) has raised great hopes and expectations among researchers, patients, health-care providers and politicians in past years. Although the term ‘person’ in PM suggests an approach of medicine which takes into account psychosocial and value aspects of the patient as human being, most articles refer to PM as strategies limited to biological features of individuals which are used to stratify patient groups for the purposes of prevention, diagnosis and treatment of disease.
Beyond the proof of efficacy and safety for approval purposes health technology assessment (HTA) is a more comprehensive evaluation of all relevant short- and long-term consequences of the application of a specific medical technology. HTA is performed for the purpose of reimbursement decision making. It covers clinical, societal, economic, ethical and legal aspects based on the available scientific evidence.
Although there are some special issues to be considered all principles of HTA are equally valid for the evaluation of biomarker tests and personalized medicine technologies. All requirements of evidence-based medicine remain and causality should and could only be demonstrated with high-quality controlled studies, preferably with randomized design. The multimodality of the intervention and by tendency smaller sample sizes lead to an increased amount of uncertainty. Besides the test strategy, itself also questions of test or sample quality, laboratory size, or the platform used, and the specific technology must be taken into consideration.
Economic evaluations should also include these aspects.
In summary the fundamental principles of HTA and health economic evaluation are also valid and feasible for the evaluation of personalized medicine and genetic biomarker tests, but careful adaptations of the existing HTA and health economic guidelines are required.
We analyze risks and crises for healthcare providers and discuss the impact of cloud computing in such scenarios. The analysis is conducted in a holistic way, taking into account organizational and human aspects, clinical, IT-related, and utilities-related risks as well as incorporating the view of the overall risk management.

general practice. We aimed to investigate patient characteristics and outcomes of PAD patients treated according to the guidelines versus those who were not.
Methods. PACE-PAD was a multicentre, cluster - randomised prospective, longitudinal cohort study of patients with PAD in primary care, who were followed-up for death or vascular events over 18 months. Guideline-orientation was assumed, if patients received anti¬coagu¬lant/antiplatelet therapy, exercise training, and (if applicable) advice for smoking cessation and therapy of
diabetes mellitus, hypertension, or hypercholesterolemia, respectively.
Results. The 5099 PAD patients (mean age 68.0 ± 9.0 years, 68.5% males) who were followed-up were in Fontaine stages I, IIa, IIb, III, and IV in 22.5%, 34.6%, 30.1%, 7.8%, and 3.5%
(1.5% not specified). Comprehensive guideline orientation was reported in 28.4% only, however, patients in lower Fontaine stages received more often guideline-oriented therapy (I: 30.3%; IIa: 31.6%, IIb: 29.1%, III: 9.8%, IV: 18.0%). During 18 months, 457 patients died (224 due to cerebrovascular or coronary deaths), 319 had instable angina pectoris, 116 myocardial infarction, and 140 an ischemic stroke event. In total, 24% of patients had experienced any vascular event (19.1% a first event). Event rates did not differ between patients treated according to guidelines, and those who were not.
Conclusion. The present PAD cohort was a high-risk sample with an unexpectedly high rate of deaths and vascular events. While physicians appear to focus on the treatment of individual risk factors, rates of comprehensive PAD management in line with guideline recommendations are still suboptimal. Factors contributing to the lacking difference between outcomes in the guideline-oriented and non-guideline-oriented groups may comprise low treatment intensity or other reasons for unsatisfactory effect of treatment, misclassification of events, patient's non-compliance with therapy.
