Hints for searching

Boolean Operators AND, OR, NOT

When you use the Simple Search, all terms are combined by AND automatically. For a more tightly focused search you may use the Boolean Operators to combine different search terms.

AND: The document has to contain all search terms.

OR: The document has to contain one of the search terms. This function broadens your search and is recommended, when there are different terms for the same meaning.

article OR paper

NOT: This function works excluding and might be useful to reduce a large result list: Documents, which contain the one term, may not contain the other.

article NOT paper

The Boolean Operators work for the Advanced Search as well. You may use them to combine different search terms within one search field. For example, to search for documents of the author "Doe" in the years 2002 or 2003, use the query:

Author: Doe
Year: 2002 OR 2003

Wildcards

In the field 'Search:', you may use the symbols '*' and '?' as wildcards. Use them in place of a character or characters that are unknown or that may differ. You cannot use them in front of a word or search string.

Example 1: chemi* finds chemical but also chemistry or chemist. Example 2: licen?e finds licence and license.

You may use double quotes (") to search for phrases.

How to publish on OPUS-CREATOR?
Only Members of the CRC CREATOR (TRR361/F90) can publish on OPUS-CREATOR.
How do I publish my work here?
Please click on the publication link on the start page.
First you are requested to choose a document type. Right beneath that you can upload your document files. Having done so you may click on "send". What follows now is the actual form. You have to fill in data about your publication here (so called metadata), which is used to describe your work in cataloges and other bibliographic directories. Describe the document you want to upload using the categories and fields on the publication form. Depending on the document type, some of these fields are mandatory and therefore have to be filled in. Please describe your document as clear as possible. Mandatory fields are for example:
  • the document type (must be choosen from a list)
  • the title of your publication and the language of the title
  • the abstract of the document
  • the publication date of your document (normally the day you publish it online)
  • the language of the document (must be choosen from a list)
  • the licence, under which you want to publish your document (must be choosen from a list)
If you are unsure what to fill in certain form fields, you can point the cursor on a field and an explaining help text will be shown.
After you have finished the form, all data will be displayed once again for a check-up and you then have three possibilities: you can correct them if necessary, add your document to a collection or simply safe it directly.

Note:
In oder to publish your work cookies have to be enabled in your web browser.
What's metadata?
Metadata can be defined as
  • data describing one or more resources or as
  • data associated with an object and describing it
Basically metadata is describing documents, objects or services and contains information about their content, structure or form. More abstractly metadata is a description of data or "data about data". Bibliographic data sets and catalog entries in library catalogs can be seen as a kind of metadata.

This repository is using metadata in the Dublin Core Metadata Element Set (short Dublin Core (DC)) which has fifteen basic elements. Dublin Core is the result of international efforts to reach a collective consensus in describing electronic objects (in the broadest sense). The Library of Congress (LoC), the Online Cataloging Library Center (OCLC) and several national libraries are dealing with Dublin Core in many projects and are close to introduce the system respectively.

In most cases this is no problem. Please ensure in any case, if your publisher allows a parallel publication! To do that you can use the SHERPA/ROMEO list.
Since 1/1/2014, a new secondary publication right (Zweitveröffentlichungsrecht - ZVR) has been anchored in copyright law (§38), which extends the existing options for publication of preprints and postprints in OPUS by an additional one: It gives authors the right to publish certain pieces of work as second publication, even if this right is not stipulated in a publication agreement concluded with the publisher.
In this context, the following conditions are applicable (more detailed information (in German) under „FAQ der Allianz der deutschen Wissenschaftsorganisationen“):
  • 12 months after primary publication, the accepted manuscript version – not the layout created by the publishing house – may be published in a repository. Any contrary agreement to the disadvantage of the author shall be invalid.
  • Only contributions in journals appearing at least twice a year may be published for a second time. This does not apply to contributions from monographs, festschrift, proceedings and the like.
  • The source of the primary publication must be mentioned.
  • The right does not apply retroactively, but only for publications since 2014.
  • All authors must give consent.
  • An additional granting of CC licences is not possible in order to avoid collisions with publishing contracts.
A secondary publication is still possible immediately as long as the publishing house has not contractually been granted an exclusive, but only a simple right of use, or if the publishing house in general permits subsequent use of this type. On this basis, ZIB Reports have already been published in the past. Among other things, all mathematical publishing houses allow preprints and postprints of publications to appear in an institutional repository or on a personal homepage. In particular, this option should be used for proceedings, since the second publication right newly incorporated into copyright law does not apply to proceedings, see above.
If contract conditions are not (or no longer) known to you, you can find the provisions of nearly all publishing houses in the SHERPA/ROMEO-database.
Authors can choose which terms of use must be regarded for their publication. These terms are defined in a license. This repository supports different licenses, from which you can choose one (i.e. Creative Commons Licenses/).
