Die Umstellung der Wirtschaft auf wasserstoffbasierte Energieversorgung soll in Deutschland vor allem auf Basis der Umstellung des bestehenden Erdgasnetzes erfolgen. Dabei sollen ca. 90 % dieser Fernleitungsnetze auf dem bestehenden Erdgasnetz basieren. Die Beimischung von Wasserstoff zum Erdgas als auch der reine Wasserstofftransport werfen jedoch die Frage auf, ob und wie kompatibel die eingesetzten Materialien sind. Die Reparatur- und Erweiterungsfähigkeit von Erdgas-Bestandspipelines ist zu klären, wenn diese auf Wasserstoff umgestellt werden. Denn gerade Gashochdruckleitungen müssen regelmäßig gewartet und erweitert werden, um einen ordnungsgemäßen Betrieb sicherzustellen. Insbesondere das Schweißen unter Betriebsdruck bzw. an in Betrieb befindlichen Gasleitungen ist eine der wichtigsten Instandhaltungstechnologien, unabhängig von der Zusammensetzung des geförderten Mediums. Es ist daher dringend notwendig, eine geeignete Teststrategie zu erarbeiten, welche die nötigen Vorrausetzungen für sicheres Schweißen an in Betrieb befindlichen Druckwasserstoffleitungen schafft und entsprechende Kriterien für die Praxis liefert. Im Projekt H2-SuD - Einfluss des Schweißens auf die Wasserstoffaufnahme und Degradation im Betrieb befindlicher H2-Ferngasleitungen - soll geklärt werden, ob und wie stark mit einer Eigenschaftsdegradation geschweißter Rohrstähle in Gasnetzen in Folge einer Wasserstoffaufnahme zu rechnen ist. Die Präsentation gibt dazu einen kurzen Überblick über den aktuellen Status des Projektes. Die Förderung erfolgt im Rahmen der DVGW-Innovationsprogammes Wasserstoff (Nr. G 202131).
Carrier gas hot extraction (CGHE) is a commonly applied technique for determination of hydrogen in welded joints using a thermal conductivity device (TCD) for quantitative measurement. The CGHE is based on the accelerated hydrogen effusion due to thermal activation at elevated temperatures. The ISO 3690 standard suggests different specimen geometries as well as necessary minimum extraction time vs. temperature. They have the biggest influence on precise hydrogen determination. The present study summarizes the results and experience of numerous test runs with different specimen temperatures, geometries and factors that additionally influence hydrogen determination. They are namely: specimen surface (polished/as-welded), limited TCD sensitivity vs. specimen volume, temperature measurement vs. effects of PID-furnace controller as well as errors due to insufficient data assessment. Summarized, the temperature is the driving force of the CGHE. Two different methods are suggested to increase the heating rate up the reach the desired extraction temperature without changing the experimental equipment. Suggestions are made to improve the reliability of hydrogen determination depended on the hydrogen signal stability during extraction accompanied by evaluation of the recorded data. Generally, independent temperature measurement with calibration specimens is useful for further data analysis, especially if this data is used for calculation of trapping kinetics by thermal desorption analysis (TDA).
Das DVS-Vorhaben 01.3211 „Herstellung beanspruchungsgerechter Oberflächen durch Kombination innovativer additiver und abtragender Fertigungsschritte an hochbelasteten Komponenten“ ist ein Kooperationsprojekt der Bundesanstalt für Materialforschung und -prüfung (BAM) und dem Institut für Schweißtechnik und Trennende Fertigungsverfahren (ISAF) der Technischen Universität Clausthal. Das Übergeordnete Projektziel ist das Erlangen von Erkenntnissen für eine sichere und wirtschaftliche, kombinierte additive und abtragende Fertigung aus kostenintensiven Werkstoffen hochbelasteter Komponenten insbesondere für KMU. Dabei stehe die beiden Werkstoffe CoCr26Ni9Mo5W (2.4681) und FeNi36 (1.3912) im Fokus. Mittels Modifikation der Schweißzusätze sind homogen und isotrop ausgeprägte Werkstoffeigenschaften und eine Erhöhung der Prozessstabilität und Fertigungsfreiheitsgrade bei der additiven Fertigung erzielbar. Darüber hinaus wird der Einfluss nachfolgender abtragender Bearbeitungsschritte des ultraschallunterstützen und des konventionellen Fräsprozesses untersucht. Im Laufe der Sitzung des projektbegleitenden Ausschusses (PbA) wurde der aktuelle Bearbeitungsstand sowie der Zeitplan vorgestellt. Darüber hinaus wurde mit dem PbA über die bereits erzielten Ergebnisse diskutiert. Abschließend wurde ein kurzer Ausblick über die zeitnah beginnenden Arbeiten beider Forschungseinrichtungen sowie ein Überblick über die vorhabenbezogenen Aufwendungen der Wirtschaft und des Ergebnistransfers in die Wirtschaft gegeben.
The weld pool dynamics and shape play a fundamental role in keyhole mode welding. The presented work aims the experimental and numerical investigation of the influence of the weld pool characteristics on the formation of hot cracking. The experimental procedure allows recording the molten pool in the longitudinal section of a butt joint configuration of 15 mm thick structural steel and transparent quartz glass by using a high-speed video camera and two thermal imaging cameras. The observations show that the dimensions of the weld pool vary depending on the depth. The regions close to the surface form a teardrop-shaped weld pool. A bulge-region and its temporal evolution are observed approximately in the middle of the depth of the weld pool, where hot cracking appears. A numerical framework including models for the weld pool dynamics, global temperature field, transient stress state, crystal growth, diffusion and macro-segregation and subroutines for their one-way couplings is developed. The numerically obtained and experimentally observed results are in a good agreement. It is shown that the bulge-region leads to a delay in the solidification behavior, increased temporal tensile stresses and accumulation of impurities in the defect region and hence enhance the probability of hot cracking formation.

The presented work aims the experimental and numerical investigation of the influence of the weld pool characteristics on the formation of hot cracking. The experimental procedure allows recording the molten pool in the longitudinal section of a butt joint configuration of 15 mm thick structural steel and transparent quartz glass by using a high-speed video camera and two thermal imaging cameras. The observations show that the dimensions of the weld pool vary depending on the depth. The regions close to the surface form a teardrop-shaped weld pool. A bulge-region and its temporal evolution are observed approximately in the middle of the depth of the weld pool, where hot cracking appears. A numerical framework including models for the weld pool dynamics, global temperature field, transient stress state, crystal growth, diffusion and macro-segregation and subroutines for their one-way couplings is developed. The numerically obtained and experimentally observed results are in a good agreement. It is shown that the bulge-region leads to a delay in the solidification behavior, increased temporal tensile stresses and accumulation of impurities in the defect region and hence enhance the probability of hot cracking formation.

The Lamé curves approximation technique was successfully applied for the reconstruction of the rear part of the two-dimensional steady-state weld pool boundary. General analytical expressions for the main solidification parameters, namely the crystal axis, the growth rate and the cross-sectional area of the crystal were derived.
The derived expressions and herewith obtained results were verified and validated by comparing them to known theoretical solutions and experimental measurements. Dimensionless analysis of the influence of the size and shape of the rear weld pool boundary on the solidification parameters was provided.
The derived general solutions and the analysis provided allow for critical welding parameters to be estimated and adapted accordingly to improve the welding process.
A new approach towards performance-related design and scientific evaluation of joint sealing systems

While there is a permanent improvement of concrete pavement mixtures and pavement construction types over the last decades, the state-of-the-art joint sealing materials and joint constructions seem to stagnate on an antiquated empirical level. This status has been reaffirmed in the latest European standard.
The consequences in the motorway network due to unsatisfying capability and durability of joint sealing systems are unacceptable. In addition, inadequate traffic performance (noise emissions, roll-over comfort) and traffic safety losses in the joint area of concrete pavements are existing challenges. These deficits and weaknesses reflect a demand for joint sealing materials and constructions whose approval requirements take functional aspects into account. Furthermore a sufficient analysis of decisive loads and a practice-oriented method to evaluate the requirements towards performance and durability is still missed.
In this contribution decisive loads to German highways are analyzed. The design of test specimen for representative functional testing of joint sealing systems is discussed. The focus is on the geometry of the test specimens and the used concrete mixture. Finally, a new approach for a function-orientated test concept that considers representative load functions is presented. The potential of this approach to validate the durability and capability of various joint sealing systems is also presented using an example.
This work aims to find the thermal cycles during and after fusion welding through simulation by first calculating the resulting local temperature field in the quasi-stationary part of the process. Here complete-penetration keyhole laser beam welding with a laser power of 18 kW on a 15 mm thick slab of a low-alloyed steel at a welding speed of 2 m/min is considered. In order to physically depict the laser material interaction a multi-physics numerical model including the effects of phase transformation, thermo-capillary convection, natural convection and temperature-dependent material properties up to evaporation temperature is developed.
It uses a fixed keyhole geometry with a right truncated circular cone shape to introduce the laser beam energy to the workpiece. In a subsequent study, the resulting local temperature field is then used as an equivalent heat source in order to predict the unsteady thermal cycle during and after fusion welding. The translational movement of the laser beam through the workpiece is represented by a moving mesh approach. For the simulation, stationary heat transfer and fluid dynamics are described by a system of strongly coupled partial
differential equations. These are solved with the commercial finite element software COMSOL Multiphysics 5.0. The results of the numerical simulation are validated by experiments, where the weld bead shapes and the thermal cycles show good correlation.
The weld quality and the possible defect formation are directly determined by the weld pool shape and the thermo-fluid dynamics therein. In this paper, an untypical weld pool profile, i.e., elongated at its top and bottom but narrowed at the middle, is found experimentally and numerically in the wire feed laser beam welding. The detrimental influence of the weld pool narrowing on the element transport is analyzed and discussed. A magnetohydrodynamic technique is utilized to suppress the narrowing, aiming at a more homogenous element distribution. It is found that a low-temperature region is formed in the middle of the weld pool due to the interaction of the two dominant circulations from the top and bottom regions. The weld pool is significantly narrowed due to the untypical growth of the mushy zone in the low-temperature region, which results in a direct blocking effect on the downward flow and the premature solidification in the middle region. The Lorentz force produced by a transverse oscillating magnetic field shows the potential to change the flow pattern into a single-circulation type and the low-temperature-gradient region is mitigated. Therefore, the downward transfer channel is widened, and its premature solidification is prevented. The numerical results are well validated by experimental measurements of metal/glass observation and X-ray fluorescence element mapping.
When it comes to higher accuracies, new technologies and real applications in additive manufacturing, there is one topic which cannot be avoided: The material response on the chosen processing parameters and its agreement and correspondence with literature data of the wrought material grade counterpart. In industrial Additive Manufacturing (AM) standards in terms of printing parameters, protection gas atmospheres or powder handling instructions are not obligatory. Therefore, the question must be answered whether the AM process is reproducible and reliable over different printing companies. This was the motivation to realize a round robin test between 8 European printing companies and academic partners. The consortium had printed and tested fatigue and tensile testing bars under plant-specific conditions. A commonly used cast aluminum alloy, AlSi10Mg, was chosen as test material for the PBF-LB/M process. Differences of the results between the partners and the scatter itself were discussed in detail.
