The text presents an attempt towards the appropriation of Erikson’s theory for identity development, important in the fields of education and psychology. In order to make Erikson’s theory of psychosocial development empirically accessible, James E. Marcia developed the “Identity Interview Status” (ISI), that searches within the topics of “profession”, “relationship/family” and “values/ideology” for the variable “commitment” and “exploration” crises with the final output being the “identity status” of the individual. This paper presents a reflection and further development of the ISI. How is the concept of “identity status” theoretically deduced based on Erikon’s theory in the ISI? Regarding methodology, it is questioned if “identity status” is appropriate for the inquiry of identity and if the ISI is an adequate instrument to investigate this. Are the constructions of the researcher based on the constructions of the person interviewed? How is the perspective of the individual interviewed integrated in the research process? The concerns raised by these questions directed us to find an improvement to the ISI, called the “Modified Identity Status Interview” (MISI) and for the development of a process model of the identity crisis. Keywords: identity; Erik H. Erikson; process model of identity crisis; Identity Status Interview Modified (MISI).
This article reflects on the theoretical contributions of the queer perspective and the usage of the Portuguese language. This paper is divided in three parts. Initially, the queer perspective and some of its basic concepts will be presented, concerning the Portuguese language and its usage. The second part, based on three examples of language usage, will discuss some meanings of its social practice. The third part focuses on the consequences of the queer perspective. As a conclusion, this paper indicates the queer theory´s contributions, its revisionist impulses and the risk of a theoretical dead-end .
Palavras-chave: identidade; semiótica; semiose; identidade como signo Abstract The notion of identity from the standpoint of semiotics - The subject of this article is the concept of identity. The starting point is the observation that the ideas of unity, coherence and continuity, which constitute the concept of identity, appear to be losing their explanatory power in so-called postmodernity. The ideal of a unique and complete "I" has led to heated debate about whether the concept of identity should be abandoned. This article aims to contribute to this debate, offering reflections about the concept of identity from the perspective of Semiotics and about how this perspective can enrich both the concept of identity and identity as such.
