This book presents a sampling of classic psychological theories of human nature with two special emphases: First, each theory is presented developmentally, following as closely as possible the intellectual steps taken by its creator. Secon, wherever the evidence warranted, the theory is considered in the light of the theorist's own human nature. Readers familiar with earlier editions of this text will find that the book's major aims and fundamental content remain unchanged. Where changes have been introduced, they have been guided by a need for updating information or clarifying material, rather than introducing changes for the sake of newness.
