Publishing in the repository

Open Access

Open Access means that scientific literature is published online and is accessible free of charge and largely free of legal and technical restrictions. For more information on Open Access, please visit the library's website.

Second publication

Contributions to scientific research that have already been published by a publisher or in a journal can also be published on the repository (so-called "Green Open Access"). This additional publication can take place in advance, simultaneously or later. Whether and under which conditions the secondary publication is possible is regulated by the contract between you and the publisher responsible for the first publication.
The policies of many publishers for parallel publication of scientific publications are listed on the Sherpa/RoMEO platform. Please pay particular attention to the licensing conditions approved by the publisher as well as any regulations regarding an embargo period during which no secondary publication is permitted.

Advantages of publishing in the repository

Publishing in the repository offers numerous advantages; here is a small selection:

Dissemination: Publications can be found worldwide at any time and their metadata used free of charge.

Findability: Publications registered in the repository are not only searchable via the platform itself but can also be found quickly and easily with an internet search since they are indexed in scientific search engines such as BASE or Google Scholar. In addition, they can be found in the THI online catalog, in the catalog of the Bavarian Library Network (BVB) and in national and international catalog databases.

Archiving: Your electronic publication is stored and archived in the repository as a PDF file. For each publication, we register a Uniform Resource Name (URN) or DOI with the German National Library (Deutsche Nationalbibliothek). Under this address, your publication is permanently accessible so that it can be cited without any problems. In addition, doctoral theses are forwarded to the archive server of the German National Library (Deutsche Nationalbibliothek) and archived there long term.

Time and money: The service is not only free of charge for you, but also saves you the time and effort that is inevitably involved when publishing with a publishing house. Your document will be published online immediately after being checked by university library staff and will be citable from then on.

High citation rate: A publication in the repository offers you a higher probability of being noticed by the scientific community. Various studies have shown that open access publications are now cited more frequently than publications published in printed form. Studies on the topic of "impact analysis" can be found at The Open Citation Project.
