SMILE stands for Study Methods and Information Literacy Exemplars, a blended learning approach to teaching information literacy and communication skills. It is an online information literacy course the Saltire Centre of Glasgow Caledonian University makes available on a BlackBoard VLE (Virtual Learning Environment), and uses OER (Open Educational Resources). SMILE was orginally created as a JISC (Joint Information Systems Committee) project jointly by Imperial College London, Loughborough University and the University of Worchester. It uses audio and video as well as web pages.
