Libraries have a track record of developing and contributing open source software to deliver solutions where propriety software may have come to a standstill. From solutions for institutional deposits to data crosswalks, analytics and indeed the Library Services Platform, open-source software delivers important business value to libraries. How then can libraries take advantage of open source initiatives, contribute to continued innovation and meet evolving needs? And how can open source software further address the need for improved interoperability with proprietary solutions to which the library may subscribe? In this presentation, the presenter will discuss the approach and status of FOLIO, the open source library services platform supported by service providers and libraries alike. The presenter will thereby discuss aspects of “open” including the need for interoperable applications within the library’s technology infrastructure. And the presenter will look at a variety of solutions that interoperate with FOLIO including the EBSCO suite of services and beyond.
