Eigenverantwortliche Individuen und Pro-Aktive Unternehmen

Self-Reliant Individuals and Pro-Active Companies

  • In this era of "globalization," it seems to be commonly accepted and believed that companies search for the cheapest production facilities, in terms of labor costs and regulations, with at least one result being increased pressure on individuals, e.g., unskilled workers, and institutions, e.g., the social insurance system in Germany. However, in this contribution it is argued that this pressure is the result of missed or inappropriate reforms, rather than due to globalization. Two strategies are presented that could reduce the pressure on individuals and institutions in the future. The first of these is a return to individual self-reliance and the second strategy focuses on companies. Indeed, there are strong incentives for companies to act in line with society's demands, i.e., to pursue corporate social responsibility (CSR) strategies. Altogether, these strategies might lead to an all-embracing public-private-partnership as an adequate reaction the new challenges caused by an increasingly globalized world.
