TY - CHAP A1 - Martin, Stewart T1 - Sohn-Rethel’s Critique of Epistemology and Art T2 - Das Wissen der Arbeit und das Wissen der Künste N2 - This essay attempts to draw out the implications of Alfred Sohn-Rethel’s Intellectual and Manual Labour for the consideration of art. This is not something Sohn-Rethel intended or invited, but the aim here is to proceed immanently: by simply extending his critique of Kant’s epistemology to Kant’s aesthetics. The result is a critique of Kant’s influential account of aesthetic experience and art as an ideological form of commodity exchange abstraction.
