The vision of smart factories running on software, that uses collected machine data, has become true but foremost for leading industrial companies in highly developed countries. Apart from these, production can also be found in non-industrialized craft professions as well as in less developed countries. As digitalization does not necessarily require an industrial or developed setting the latter could possibly benefit from it as well. Socio-cyber-physical production systems have been used to describe the interdependencies of linked production systems but usually focus on highly developed regions as well as for industrial applications. This paper lines out similarities and differences for each case, introduces the concept of cyber-physical production systems (CPPS) and its extension to socio-CPPS (SCPPS), which emphasizes the role of human workers in the production environment. The relation between industrial, non-industrial production and innovations is examined. Furthermore, the widening of SCCPS concepts for non-industrial production is discussed. While they gradually cause anomalous system operating conditions, modern automatic fault detection models aim to detect them at low severity by using real-time sensor data. Many scientific contributions addressed this topic in the past and presented data-driven approaches to detect faulty system states. Although many promising results were presented to date, there is lack of suitable comparison studies that show the effectiveness of the proposed models by use of data stemming from different chiller systems. Therefore this study aims at detecting a suitable data-driven approach to detect faults reliable in different domains of industrial chillers. Thus, a unified procedure is developed, to train all algorithms in an identical way with same data-basis. Since most of the reviewed papers used only one dataset for training and testing, the selected approaches are trained and validated on two different datasets from real refrigeration systems. The data-driven approaches are evaluated based on their accuracy and true negative rate, from which the most suitable approach is derived as a conclusion. They are considered major energy consumers and thus contribute a non-negligible factor to environmental pollution as well as to the overall operating cost. In addition, chillers, especially in industrial applications, are often associated with high reliability requirements, as unplanned system downtimes are usually costly. As many studies over the past decades have shown, the presence of faults can lead to significant performance degradation and thus higher energy consumption of these systems. Thus, data-driven fault detection plays an ever-increasing role in terms of energy efficient control strategies. However, labelled data to train associated algorithms are often only available to a limited extent, which consequently inhibits the broad application of such technologies. Therefore, this paper presents an approach that exploits only a small amount of labelled and large amounts of unlabelled data in the training phase in order to detect fault related anomalies. For this, the model utilizes the residual space of the data transformed through principal component analyses in conjunction with a biased support vector machine, which can be ascribed to the concept of semi-supervised learning, or more specifically, positive-unlabelled learning. It will replace fossil fuels based on a sufficient supply from sustainable energy. Since the possibilities of storing and transporting hydrogen play a decisive role here, the so-called LOHC (Liquid Organic Hydrogen Carriers) can be used as carrier materials. LOHC carrier materials can reversibly absorb hydrogen, store it without loss and release it again when needed. Since little or no pressure is required, normal containers or tanks can be used. The volume or mass-related energy densities can reach around a quarter of liquid fossil fuels. This paper is to give an introduction to the field of hydrogen storage and usage of those LOHC, in particular. The developments of the last ten years have been related to the storage and transport of hydrogen with LOHC. These are crucial to meet the future demand for energy carriers e.g. for mobile applications. For this purpose, all transport systems are under consideration as well as the decentralized supply of rural areas with low technological penetration, e.g. regions of Western Africa which are often characterized by a lack of energy supply. Hydrogen bound in LOHC can provide a hazard-free alternative for distribution. The paper provides an overview of the conversion forms as well as the chemical carrier materials. Avoiding excessive burdens on future generations has now become the declared challenge of this century and justifies the efforts we must undertake to reduce global warming. This can only be achieved by conceiving new technical approaches, exploiting alternative resources and by raising people's awareness of the sustainable use of their own livelihoods. However, this change in awareness is a process that needs to be driven forward, especially in the field of research and education, and is therefore the declared aim of the Joint German-West African Conference on Sustainable, Renewable Energy Systems – SusRES. This annual conference provides a platform for exchange between scientists, students and many other interested parties, with technological progress at the forefront of the event. The SusRES conference is known as an accelerator for an ever-growing international network, not limited to the circumstances of a single country or even continent, which strives to take on and meet the global challenges of the present and future. This year's guiding theme of the event -Decentralized systems as a key factor in clean energy production for locations with limited infrastructure- of the event is primarily based on the consideration of how the energy supply of the future is to be designed. For some years now, a paradigm shift towards decentralised energy supply has been observed, which opens up new possibilities especially in areas with weak infrastructural supply. This is not just about providing energy from renewable resources, but also about exploiting this energy we have today efficiently and sustainably, whereby intelligent and interconnected systems play an ever-increasing role. The reader is provided with exciting insights into these topics within this conference proceedings elaborated by stakeholders from twelve time zones and four continents. T2 - Proceedings of the 26th European Conference on Knowledge Management : VOL 1 N2 - Logistics planning is a complex and complicated problem solving process requiring a wide range of knowledge and competence. A planning person or team represents a particular set of knowledge, skills, experience and personal attitudes. His, her or their level of competence decides about success or failure of the planning and about the quality of its results. With this, logistics planning is knowledge-based and knowledge-creating. Because of this, Knowledge Management can provide tremendous support to the planning person. Even though, there is a wide variety of (software) tools applicable to solve specific sub-problems throughout the planning process, human expertise is the key to develop creative planning solutions so far. Latest developments with regard to Artificial Intelligence (AI) might change this picture. AI is one of the most promising technological advancements, but also one of the most ambivalently discussed topics these days. It has surpassed humans at a number of tasks already and continues in doing so at new tasks in an increasing rate. Because of this, AI is capable to assist humans in many different ways. The latest boost of development moved AI application from those sophisticated communicators or task-oriented AI to intelligent agents or agentic AI allowing for autonomous, goal-driven decision-making. Hybrid approaches combine those advanced AI capabilities with human oversight, offering context-aware adaptability without full autonomy. In this way, artificial intelligence and human intelligence join forces in teams, for example, to solve complex problems creatively. Against this background, the paper analyses agentic AI with regard to its potential to support creative problem solving in a knowledge-intense field like logistics planning. Will AI agents become co-workers in logistics planning teams or can agentic AI design logistics solutions autonomously? With this, the paper focusses on chances and challenges coming with the highly dynamic evolution of AI within a complex, knowledge-intense application area where human experience, problem-solving capability and creativity is decisive. It contributes to discussions about necessary adjustments in how organizations manage their knowledge considering artificial and human intelligence. A way to do so is by integrating renewable energy sources (RES) into an energy system’s power generation. However, there is no standard procedure to decarbonise a locally restricted system. Therefore, the various local conditions have to be analysed and taken into consideration. The authors propose a model-based approach to decarbonise the energy system of the island Föhr, Germany. This includes various collected data sets on local conditions such as climate data and heat and power demand. Trains of electron bunches of 22 MeV generated at PITZ are focused inside the sample using a dedicated fast deflector and a solenoid magnet. To explore the capabilities of the proposed setup, dose distributions are calculated for multiple electron bunches focused in a single point inside a water phantom. Electron beam focusing produces dose peaks with a tunable maximal dose depth which is interesting for healthy tissue sparing at the surface and enhancing treatment quality. The duration of the full bunch train is 1 ms. During this time interval, the FLASH effect could be efficiently triggered inside the irradiated target volume. Monte Carlo simulations based on the FLUKA code were performed to evaluate the depth dose curves distributions in a water phantom. Using the PITZ electron beam parameters, simulations have shown the possibility to produce a peak dose in water seven times higher than compared to the dose at the surface. Moreover, the RMS size homogeneous area around the maximal dose is approximately 25 mm. The available parameter space of the electron beam with a momentum of 22 MeV/c allows bunch charges from 10 pC up to 5nC, bunch durations of 0.1–60ps, and bunch train lengths up to 1 ms. The number of bunches in the single train can currently be varied between 1 and 1000 bunches, with an upgrade to 4500 foreseen in 2023. Radiation biology studies require accurate dose prediction, therefore Monte Carlo simulations based on the FLUKA code were performed. According to estimations, dose delivery of 0.002 Gy (low charge case 0.1pC) and 10Gy (high charge case 5nC) is possible, if the beam is confined to a circular area with a radius of 5 mm with a lead collimator. For the Monte Carlo simulations, the experimental setup was accurately modeled, including the exit window, lead collimator, etc. Dose measurements were used to compare simulations with experiments. Dose profiles were experimentally measured with Gafchromic films and then compared with Monte Carlo simulations. The first experiments at FLASHlab@PITZ in 2023 have demonstrated flexible dose options for studying the FLASH effect and radiation biology studies. It is a prerequisite for education and in most cases also for professional success. So, it is important, that children learn how to read. In this paper, a case study is presented which investigates the question how humanoid robots can support the motivation of children to read. For this, we considered the following questions: Can humanoid robots, like the NAO robot from Aldebaran Robotics, motivate children to read more and with pleasure? Is there a setup which is technically stable enough to work outside a lab environment and without developer support? The underlying project uses children’s curiosity about humanoid robots to create an exciting learning experience. The idea can be summarized as follows: Children read to a NAO robot and communicate to the robot about the content of the book. What started as a research project is now an application that is readily used in several public libraries in Germany. Currently, our so-called Reading-NAO can interact in German and in English. However, there is a lack of empirical studies assessing possible violations of these principles in the EU through Internet censorship. This work starts addressing this research gap by investigating Internet censorship in Spain over 2016-2020, including the controversial 2017 Catalan independence referendum. We focus, in particular, on network interference disrupting the regular operation of Internet services or contents. We analyzed the data collected by the Open Observatory of Network Interference (OONI) network measurement tool. The measurements targeted civil rights defending websites, secure communication tools, extremist political content, and information portals for the Catalan referendum. Our analysis indicates the existence of advanced network interference techniques that grow in sophistication over time. Internet Service Providers (ISPs) initially introduced information controls for a clearly defined legal scope (i.e., copyright infringement). Our research observed that such information controls had been re-purposed (e.g., to target websites supporting the referendum). We present evidence of network interference from all the major ISPs in Spain, serving 91% of mobile and 98% of broadband users and several governmental and law enforcement authorities. In these measurements, we detected 16 unique blockpages, 2 Deep Packet Inspection (DPI) vendors, and 78 blocked websites. We also contribute an enhanced domain testing methodology to detect certain kinds of Transport Layer Security (TLS) blocking that OONI could not initially detect. In light of our experience analyzing this dataset, we also make suggestions on improving the collection of evidence of network interference. For backward-mode operation, conventional piezoelectric ultrasound transducers need to be placed far away from the signal source due to their opacity and size. This can result in reduced acoustic sensitivity. Planar Fabry-Perot polymer film interferometer (FPI) sensors have the potential to overcome this limitation since they are transparent to the excitation wavelength, can be placed immediately adjacent to the signal source for high acoustic sensitivity, and offer a broadband frequency response (0 –50 MHz). In this study, we present a high frame rate, backward-mode OR-PAM system based on a planar FPI ultrasound sensor. A ns-pulsed laser provides excitation pulses (<200 nJ, maximum pulse repetition frequency = 200 kHz, 532 nm) to generate photoacoustic waves that are detected using a planar FPI sensor interrogated at 765-781 nm. For backwardmode operation and highest acoustic sensitivity, the excitation and interrogation beams are coaxially aligned and rasterscanned. The optical transfer function of the sensor, the spatial resolution and the detection sensitivity were determined to characterise the set-up. Images of a leaf phantom and first in vivo images of zebrafish larvae were acquired. This approach will enable fast 3D OR-PAM with high resolution and high sensitivity for functional and molecular imaging applications. The structured illumination provides texture to homogeneous objects and thus allows for the reliable determination of the disparity of each object point in a stereo-camera setting. Even a monocular 3D sensor is possible if the light projector has a fixed relative position to the camera and if the structured light is coded, i.e. the position within the whole light pattern can be reconstructed uniquely from a small local window of the pattern, the uniqueness window. Coded patterns with such a uniqueness property are called Perfect SubMaps (PSM). In our paper we focus on the design and evaluation of the subset of symmetric isolated binary toroidal PSMs (SIBTPSM) for structured light patterns, because of their beneficial properties with respect to the signal-to-noise ratio and the use with laser light sources and DOEs. We define several figures of merit that are relevant for the practical use of PSMs in a 3D sensor: the PSM size, the size of the uniqueness window, the Hamming distance, the density, and the homogeneity. We have created SIBTPSMs using our own dedicated algorithms and have designed and fabricated DOEs that produce these patterns with large fan angles of 61° × 47° when used with near-infrared diode lasers (λ = 830nm). We analyze the influence of these characteristics on the 3D measurement process by theory, simulations, and experiments. The patterns of publicly available DOEs based on SIBTPSMs are used for comparison and reference. Our results show that the PSM width, the uniqueness window size, the minimum and average Hamming distances, and the uniformity have strong impact on either speed or quality of the 3D reconstruction, whereas the point density and the PSM height are of minor importance. Transceiver requirements surged from 100 to 400 Gb/s and beyond. In this scenario, photonics aims to enable Tb/s optical communication at energies below 1 pJ/bit. Targeting higher communication rates while maintaining a low power budget can significantly benefit from 3D photonic chip architectures. This paper presents the simulation-based design, fabrication, and characterization of a monolithically integrated optical through-silicon waveguide that facilitates the connection between different surfaces of a silicon chip. Deep reactive ion etching was employed in both the Bosch and Cryogenic variants to evaluate the effect of sidewall roughness on propagation losses. The mechanical stability of the waveguide was ensured by interrupting the annular trench with a bridging structure. The high-refractive-index contrast to air provides tight light confinement for a core size of up to 50 μm and multimode operation at 1550 nm. The morphology was characterized using scanning electron microscopy (SEM), and optical transmission characterization was performed using relative power loss measurements. A tunable laser source was buttcoupled to a waveguide to analyze light transmission efficiency. Preliminary measurements using single-mode fiber show that the transmitted values exceeded 99% for all structures. The method has a high success and fast convergence rate and relies much less on hand-tuned hyper-parameters, providing greater universality. It scales linearly (of order O(n)) with dimension and is rotation invariant, thereby overcoming known limitations. The method is presented in two variants C2Min and P2Min, with slightly different control. The increasing technical possibilities are changing the necessary competences required of physicians in the direction of digitalisation. Therefore, in personnel recruitment, digital competences should already be considered in job advertisements in order to be able to cope with the future challenges. This paper investigates to what extent a) digital competences have already found their way into the job profiles of physicians on the market and b) whether these can be meaningfully extracted through a data-driven methodological approach. For this purpose, 1707 job advertisements are evaluated using Latent Semantic Analysis (LSA). The different methodological approaches within the LSA show that there is hardly any focus on digital competences in the health sector in job advertisements. Especially for the last two purposes, in vivo measurements are extensive due to the quantity and repeatability of the measurement series. Furthermore, they are performed manually and therefore represent a nonnegligible time and cost factor. A solution to this is the implementation of collaborative robotics for the measurement execution. Due to various body shapes and surface conditions, common static control procedures are not applicable. To solve this problem, spatial information obtained from a stereoscopic camera can be integrated into the robot control process. However, the designated measurement area has to be detected and the spatial information processed. Therefore the authors propose a concept towards segmenting arm areas through a CNN-based object detector and their further processing to perform robot-based in vivo measurements. The paper gives an overview of the utilization of RGB-D images in 2D object detectors and describes the selection of a suitable model for the application.
