In this thesis, I examine the impact the branching of narrative paths has on the structure of the protagonist's various character arcs. I identify five distinct choice types and five plotlines, four of which feature character change. Using an adapted version of Kristin Thompson's (1999) analytical model, I then analyze one exemplary plotline's plot structure, demonstrating certain structural anomalies. In the analysis of the different choice types' impact on the character arcs, the concepts of the fatal flaw, lie the character believes, internal need and truth the character learns are used in tandem with the above model to track the progression of the plotlines' arcs. I demonstrate the different choice types' effects and highlight several issues that arise as well as interesting mitigation tactics used in the film.}, language = {en} } @masterthesis{Efremenko2022, type = {Bachelor Thesis}, author = {Efremenko, Arsenii}, title = {Influencers With a Purpose: How Climate Change Activists Communicate on Social Media}, url = {http://nbn-resolving.de/urn:nbn:de:0298-opus4-12023}, school = {SRH Berlin University of Applied Sciences}, year = {2022}, abstract = {This paper focuses on Instagram communication strategies of climate activists and compares them to the influencer market. Most recently Wonder Woman has debuted a new era, with Captain Marvel, and Black Widow following suit. The literature review addresses the superhero genre from comic to film, and its rise to popularity. It further underlines the sociocultural impact of superheroes, conveying messages of hope and justice, and battling serious issues. Specifically, the relation to gender is drawn and presents superheroines under stereotype threats. This is followed by findings of other research and studies proposing the importance of representation. We will take a thorough look at Wonder Woman's legacy paving the way for colleagues. The film analysis on the film Wonder Women (2017) will present findings that apply to sociocultural and gender theories. Additionally, highlighted by examples comparable with Captain Marvel (2019), Wonder Woman 1984 (2020), and Black Widow (2021). A content analysis of body positive accounts on Instagram}, url = {http://nbn-resolving.de/urn:nbn:de:0298-opus4-11940}, school = {SRH Berlin University of Applied Sciences}, pages = {65}, year = {2021}, abstract = {In the last few years, the body-positive movement, which challenges unrealistic beauty standards by promoting self-love and acceptance towards diverse bodies, has grown in popularity specifically on Instagram. This has generated mixed resonance about the movement. The present study aimed at understanding the criticism of body positivity being co-opted by corporations and reinforcing beauty ideals by examining body positive messages and their impact. This thesis provides a content analysis of 150 Instagram posts of 15 body positive influencers on Instagram while focusing on commercialistic aspects and follower interaction. The results showed that body positive content usually depicted broad ranges of body sizes but focused less on communicating positive body image themes. It was found that commercialism is majorly integrated into the accounts and follower interaction is higher if the individual showed more skin or self-objectified poses.}, language = {en} }
