N2 - Hubs are at the core of most smart homes. Modern cross-ecosystem protocols and standards enable smart home hubs to achieve interoperability across devices, offering the unique opportunity to integrate universally available smart home privacy awareness and control features. To date, such privacy features mainly focus on individual products or prototypical research artifacts. We developed a cross-ecosystem hub featuring a tangible dashboard and a digital web application to deepen our understanding of how smart home users interact with functional privacy features. The ecosystem allows users to control the connectivity states of their devices and raises awareness by visualizing device positions, states, and data flows. We deployed the ecosystem in six households for one week and found that it increased participants’ perceived control, awareness, and understanding of smart home privacy. We further found distinct differences between tangible and digital mechanisms. Our findings highlight the value of cross-ecosystem hubs for effective privacy management. To oppose this issue, concrete reinforcements in the form of polymer fibers are investigated. These polymer fibers need a good bonding ability to concrete and good mechanical properties. This study investigates core-shell fibers produced from polyketone and polypropylene mixed with a compatibilizer. The core-shell fibers were produced by coextrusion and drawing. The fibers were analyzed by tensile tests, a single fiber pull-out test, contact angle measurements, scanning electron microscopy and thermogravimetric analysis. Polybutylene succinate (PBS), a plastic produced from succinic acid, is among the promising materials for the future. However, the production of bio-based succinic acid through biotechnical processes in controlled environments presents challenges. This process leads to increased costs and is currently not economically competitive compared to crude oil-based succinic acid production. In addition to succinic acid, levulinic acid is another monomer produced in the same process. A novel approach to the digestion of biomass has been developed to address the issue of biotechnological production of bio-based platform chemicals. This innovative process employs microwave radiation, pressure, and temperature to convert wood residues into succinic acid and levulinic acid. Various catalyst concentrations and biomass ratios were tested in a batch process, with high-pressure liquid chromatography (HPLC) and liquid chromatography–mass spectrometry (LC/MS) analyses revealing the formation of succinic acid, levulinic acid, formic acid, and 2 oxoglutaric acid. The results demonstrate that microwaves combined with a metal salt catalyst can be used to produce platform chemicals from lignocellulosic biomass. To further advance the continuous production of PBS, a twin-screw extruder was modified and adapted after the successful results obtained from the batch processes. This setup enables additional experiments to evaluate the transferability of batch process results to continuous reactions, facilitating the scale-up and economic viability of the overall PBS production process in the future. This is not surprising, since (e.g.) being able to predict future events in processes enables companies to intervene at an early stage if deviations from a desired workflow are likely to occur. Subsequently, errors and associated financial losses can be prevented or avoided. A common basis for being able to predict future events is a sequence of previous events that are typically stored in a socalled event log. In this work we present a neural network with attention mechanism, which is trained using publicly available event logs (e.g. BPI Challenge 2013). Furthermore, we elaborate the proposed model with an extensive dataset of events of a worldwide known German software company. In addition to promising results (e.g.) with regard to n-gram models, the training time of the proposed model is shorter than that of typical reference models such as neural networks with a long short-term memory architecture (LSTM). However, current algorithms for decision-making automation in business lack trust and transparency. Additionally, they can suffer from mistakes if stakeholders with limited digital literacy report no or wrong data to the algorithm. Allowing stakeholders to participate directly in decision-making processes has the potential to enhance acceptance of decisions and strengthen cooperation. This paper proposes the concept of Cyber-Social Consensus (CSC), an inclusive, trustworthy and transparent automated decision-making protocol that combines algorithms with human participation. Algorithmic automation is facilitated via blockchain-based smart contracts, human involvement via email communication as a traditional, widely-used tool to accommodate different levels of digital literacy. The proposed algorithmic CSC concept serves as a foundation for future research with the goal to expand extant literature on automated decision-making, algorithms and blockchain technology. This work seeks to determine a fair sampling rate for IV curves. Traditional sampling methods, such as using equidistant voltage steps, result in biased data by over- and undersampling the measurement at different voltages, which affect critical evaluations such as maximum power point (MPP) determination as well as series and shunt resistance estimation. Therefore, an adaptive sampling approach based on calculating the arc length of the IV curve is proposed, aiming to distribute data points equidistantly along the curve. This method is intended to provide a more balanced representation of the measurement data across all segments of the curve. The results indicate that using this adaptive approach, the measurement points can be significantly reduced at lower voltages while maintaining essential data density at key characteristics such as the MPP, facilitating faster and more accurate assessments.
