    <title language="eng">Cleaning up the Spoy Canal</title>
    <abstract language="eng">Since the Rhein-Waal University is located at the Spoy Canal and the Spoy Canal is heavily polluted by organic matter and waste, the 2015 Technical Investment Planning course was focused on the investigation of the pollution and methods of cleaning up the canal. The following results were achieved:&#13;
The pollution of the canal is not avoidable but reducible. The pollution sources are certain, the pollution from the drainage is not avoidable, but the pollution from the pedestrians is. It is important to build up a more efficient trash collection system by setting up more trash cans and more frequent daily check of the trash cans, the pollution from the city can be significantly reduced.&#13;
For the existing problems like the pollution gathering at different locations in the canal, it is important to clean up these gathering once at a time, this might decrease the frequency of the pollution showing up in the city area due to wind and other influencing factors. For different solutions, after thorough research the best solution was (and is still) to purchase a boat with a front loading bucket. Because the boat height is optimal, so there are more functioning areas without loading and unloading the boat on the trailer. And it will save a lot of money in comparison to the cleaning method that was applied in 2015 (and what was applied up to late 2018). However, the investigation was a theoretical task. It was no official project with any counterparts. Therefore all results should help to create knowledge.
