E-bikes are zero-emission vehicles as they do not emit any combustion by-products. With the increasing demand for electric bikes over the past decades, the production of e-bikes has also rocketed. The purpose of this thesis is to optimize and design a robust power train of an e-bike test bench that is stationed in the Rhine-Waal University of Applied Sciences. The mechanical design of the present test bench is modular and flexible. The current test rig is susceptible to large disturbances due to vibrations in the chain drive mechanism. Due to the large segments in the chain drive, the torque results are also interrupted. These issues have been overcome by the substitution of the chain-drive mechanism to a belt-drive mechanism. The optimized power transmission system remains the same ensuring a smooth power flow in the system. In order to optimize the powertrain, three different concepts were proposed. Each concept was graded on the basis of different criteria with the help of Decision Matrix Analysis in order to choose the most promising concept. A conceptual 3D CAD model and 2D Drawings of the powertrain have been designed on SolidWorks for better reference. The substituted or the new parts that were essential for the new optimizing concept were decided with the help of a Morphological Box followed by a detailed Bill of Materials (BOM). The new powertrain was commissioned with the new parts as per the concept. The thesis further expands on the characteristics of the present test bench and the optimized test bench, the results and readings of the present test bench and the commissioning of the new powertrain. Additionally, the produced PHB was characterised by qualitative and quantitative gas chromatography coupled to a mass spectrometer (GC-MS) and gel permeation chromatography (GPC). Multiple substrates, including rhubarb waste, pea waste, and dairy industry wastewater (KAAS medium), were tested for successful fermentation. Rhubarb and pea waste could not be used as a fermentation substrate due to obstacles in upstream processing. KAAS medium was prepared by centrifugation and sterile filtration and tested in a 1 L and 4 L fermentation yielding non-competitive biomass and PHB concentrations with 0.09 g/L and 0.004 g/L, respectively. A 3 L fermentation with pure saccharose as the carbon source served as a model for comparison and analysis and resulted in a measured biomass concentration of 3.58 g/L with a PHB content of 1.43 g/L after Soxhlet extraction. The GPC analysis led to no conclusive elograms and results due to issues in non-destructively extracting and solving the PHB. The GC-MS analysis showed excellent linearity with an R2 value of 0.9906 for the standard curve and clear chromatograms, which allowed for both qualitative and quantitative analysis of PHB. Since PHB concentrations from KAAS medium were low, no quantitative analysis could be performed. Only samples from the saccharose-based fermentation could be assessed quantitatively. The found maximum PHB concentration was 2.95 g/L, which deviated from the found 1.43 g/L after Soxhlet extraction and was therefore discussed in this work. No locally available waste substrate could be found to be suitable for an industrial scale fermentation. The findings during this work led to the conclusion that semi-sterile fermentation approaches shall be investigated in future works handling waste products as they can potentially overcome upstream processing steps and, hence, make rhubarb or pea waste a potential candidate for PHB production.}, language = {en} } @masterthesis{Hammond, type = {Bachelor Thesis}, author = {Hammond, Luciano}, title = {LIDAR and RADAR Sensors in Passenger Vehicles}, url = {http://nbn-resolving.de/urn:nbn:de:hbz:1383-opus4-4276}, school = {Hochschule Rhein-Waal}, pages = {84}, abstract = {Automotive RADAR and LIDAR are two examples of sensor technologies used to observe the environment and detect objects surrounding the host vehicle, in order to enable ADAS. Naturally, the use of sensors in order to enable systems intended to protect and support the driver or improve their comfort entails stringent requirements; not only in terms of performance, but reliability and robustness as well. This has led to the continued development of sensor technologies, with developers seeking to additionally provide more compact and cost-effective alternatives to surrounding sensing; autonomous driving being the end goal, therefore entailing stricter requirements. Although both RADAR and LIDAR sensors are used for the same purpose, i.e. measuring the radial distance towards a target and determining its velocity relative to the host vehicle, they differ with regards to their functionalities, components, operation and various other aspects, leading to individual strengths and weaknesses. For example, RADAR is known for its impressive detection range, whereas LIDAR is known for its enhanced accuracy and resolution. These contrasting characteristics therefore indicate that either sensor may be preferred over the other in certain situations; perhaps in which one may perform better than the other, or due to other factors and aspects. This paper aims to analyse and compare the two sensor technologies and their use in passenger vehicles with respect to these various factors and aspects, in order to provide an insight into different cases in which one may be more suitable than the other. Research has shown that one of the reasons young people do not vote is a lack of information about the electoral process, candidates and policies. Studies have also shown that preferred information dissemination medium is aligned across age groups, with older people trusting old media such as newspapers and young people leaning towards new media such as social media. With the recent advancement in machine learning, natural language interface and popularity of conversational agents such as chatbots, a new subset of new media has emerged. This study aims to investigate if chatbots could be an efficient medium for young people to access electoral information. It does this by comparing it with a website, using the EU electoral page as a case study. Based on the content of the EU electoral webpage, a chatbot was designed, trained and deployed on Telegram. Participants were randomly divided into two experimental groups (chatbot and website) and asked to find a list of crucial information, interact with the medium and then respond to the System usability scale (SUS), and a perception questionnaire. Observed data and interview notes were also taken. Analysis of the experimental data, observed data and surveys demonstrated that chatbot as a tool is inefficient as an electoral information tool because of the limitation of chatbot when out of scope questions are asked and limitation in following conversation contexts which is crucial to conversations. However, it is rated as above average on usability and joy of use, but raises questions on trust and data protection. It is recommended that the study be performed again when there are more advances to natural language processing to see if its efficiency as an electoral information medium will improve. The global aggregated mitigation potential of up to 11 GtCO₂eq yrˉ¹ (medium confidence) resulting from afforestation, SOC increment and biochar application in the land use sector can only be realised when including smallholder farmers which are in stewardship of 60\% of the global arable lands. Currently soil carbon sequestration receives extensive attention, but efficient schemes to financially support smallholder transition towards carbon farming practices are lacking. Linking these smallholder structures to the global carbon markets by verifying and trading carbon offsets generated through climate smart farming practices is a new attempt to generate the required funding for transition - turning carbon into a new farming commodity for smallholders. This paper reviews approaches to SOC monitoring required for quantification and verification of offsets, based on the evaluation of methods used in the Nepalese smallholder carbon project: Forest Gardens for Closing the Global Carbon Cycle [FCGC]. Further it compares the project innovations of the FCGC with other distinguished case studies of current projects implementing carbon as a farming commodity in a tropical- subtropical smallholder context. A strong variability in SOC pattern as identified in the FCGC project, is inherent to smallholder systems, the cost of representative, direct measurements of such heterogeneous SOC distributions may be cost prohibitive. For smallholder carbon projects of aggregated scale, process-based models to determine SOC fluxes should be employed or the agricultural intervention be focused on tree- biomass- carbon which is quantifiable in a less resource demanding manners. Among the identified project innovations are: Real- time in-situ GIS applications, an innovative approach for monitoring fragmented areas under intervention; The household segment of the voluntary carbon market as a new target group to be explored; Biochar as a multifunctional soil amendment for long-term carbon sequestration; Participatory schemes for monitoring and extension services to build capacity and foster participation; and mobile money approaches to lower transaction costs and likelihood of corruption. The direct financial return from carbon- credits to the farmer is minor, thus it is imperative for the project design to utilize agricultural interventions fostering co-benefits, which are tangible to the farmer in the short to medium term and will serve as the main incentive for the adoption of CF techniques.}, language = {en} } @masterthesis{Honerkamp, type = {Bachelor Thesis}, author = {Honerkamp, Jana}, title = {{\"U}bertragbarkeit eines standardisierten Stufenprotokolls auf h{\"a}matoonkologisch erkrankte Patientinnen und Patienten vor Induktionstherapie}, url = {http://nbn-resolving.de/urn:nbn:de:hbz:1383-opus4-3692}, school = {Hochschule Rhein-Waal}, pages = {68}, abstract = {K{\"o}rperliche Aktivit{\"a}t unterst{\"u}tzt den Erhalt der Lebensqualit{\"a}t und tr{\"a}gt dazu bei, dass die Nebenwirkungen der Krebserkrankung und der Krebstherapie besser vertragen werden. It is very useful to have a mathematical model because it can be used to run simulations. These simulations would give an accurate representation of the outcome when alterations of a certain metabolic mechanism or compound are changed. The main goal is to reconstruct a working model without dead ends to be used as a teaching tool in an academic environment. It can give students, and alike, a chance to reference what a CHO cell model could resemble. Another goal is for the model to be used to run simulations. This work wants to give access to something that is currently kept under confidentiality by larger industries and allow those who wish to learn a chance to use it. The last CHO cell model was created 2 years ago, and it was never published. Therefore, this work focuses on constructing a new model with the software 'Insilico' by using literature, KEGG and the CHO genome database. With the aid of programs like 'Matlab,' 'Excel,' and 'XML Notepad,' scripts are created to be suitable for 'Insilico.' After many laborious trials and errors, a complete, working and full CHO cell model is reconstructed with ~1800 reactions and transporters. The FBA analysis works by showing that the model can run simulations and prove that biomass has an output.}, language = {en} } @misc{Hannak, type = {Master Thesis}, author = {Hannak, Sarina}, title = {Betriebliches Gesundheitsmanagement - Evaluierung des Pilotprojekts „Implementierung von befit-Beauftragten" in einem Beispielunternehmen}, school = {Hochschule Rhein-Waal}, subject = {Gesundheitsmanagement}, language = {de} }
