The prediction of structure-borne noise using numerical methods has a crucial influence during the development process of modern passenger cars. In order to minimise the dynamic forces from the chassis transferred to the body structure, multibody simulation (MBS) can be used. The link between the road surface and the chassis is established by the tyre and its own structural dynamic characteristics. Therefore, it is substantial and the main goal of the present paper to investigate the Noise, Vibration and Harshness (NVH) performance of two commercial physical tyre models available and commonly used in the market. The intention is to point out what kind of results (up-to-date) a user of these structural dynamic tyre models, namely FTire and CDtire/3D, will get with a focus on NVH. The authors strictly follow the established process of how to obtain the fitted tyre property files, as any other user of FTire and CDTire currently does. This process includes a measurement campaign of the real tyre and a subsequent fitting of the tyre property file. The fitting in this case is provided by the tyre model developers themselves, namely cosin and Fraunhofer ITWM. The tyre models are then integrated into the MBS software MSC.Adams where their performance will be assessed based on measured wheel-hub forces in the time and frequency domain up to 300 Hz.
Fluctuations of material properties are one reason for the occurrence of cracks and waviness in series production of car body parts. Especially fluctuating tribological conditions have an effect on the friction behavior and thus on the material flow. So far fluctuating material properties are not considered in the standard FE-simulation and consequently not in the tool design. In order to enhance the accuracy of the simulation result and thus improve the tool design regarding a robust process, the appearance of batch fluctuations has to be consistently understood. Therefore, the impact of varying lubricant quantities and roughness have been investigated. Several batches have been analyzed to identify the main influencing parameter regarding the friction behavior. Flat strip-drawing tests have been performed to determine the friction coefficient. The investigations have been performed by using material from the series production, as delivered. Since the amount of lubricant turns out to be the main influencing factor, the characteristics and appearance of the lubricant distribution has been analyzed in a further step. The analysis has shown that the distribution of the lubricant changes within one coil over the coil width and length. In addition, the time of storage has been identified as one main influencing factor on the homogeneity of the lubricant distribution over the coil width. Based on these findings, a method has been developed to map the series production conditions regarding the friction conditions in the simulation. Hence, simulations were performed using a side frame blank with different friction conditions, to investigate the impact on the forming result. The results reveal that by considering realistically existing tribological conditions, more scrap is to be expected compared to the conventional simulation. This leads to the conclusion that previous simulation results are too optimistic. Consequently, the introduced method offers the potential to optimize the tool design by considering fluctuating tribological conditions already in the process of development. Thus, it is possible to reduce scrap and increase productivity.
Linear models are a mainstay in statistical pattern recognition but do not play a role in time series classification, because they fail to account for temporal variations. To overcome this limitation, we combine linear models with dynamic time warping (dtw). We analyze the resulting warped-linear models theoretically and empirically. The three main theoretical results are (i) the Representation Theorem, (ii) the Matrix Complexity Lemma, and (iii) local Lipschitz continuity of the warped softmax function. The Representation Theorem roughly states that warped-linear models correspond to polytope classifiers in Euclidean spaces. This key result is useful because it simplifies analysis of warped-linear models. For example, it provides a geometric interpretation, points to the label dependency problem, and justifies application of warped-linear models not only on temporal but also on multivariate data. The Representation Theorem together with the Matrix Complexity Lemma reveals that warped-linear models implement a weight trick by weight selection and massive weight sharing. Local Lipschitz continuity of warped softmax functions admits a principled training of warped-linear models by stochastic subgradient methods. Empirical results show that replacing the inner product of linear models with a dtw-score substantially improves its predictive performance. The theoretical and empirical contributions of this article provide a simple and efficient first-trial alternative to nearest-neighbor methods and open up new perspectives for more sophisticated classifiers such as warped deep learning.
This paper presents a simple and systematic approach to determine the equivalent frequency-independent circuit model for a dual-band planar antenna. The Foster Canonical network synthesis technique with two RLC tanks has been employed to generate the two resonant bands of the antenna. The transfer function model is subsequently refined using a data fitting algorithm (viz the Nelder-Mead simplex algorithm). Parametric adjustments are performed at the final stage in order to further improve the accuracy of the final parameters.
We prove a functional equation for a vector valued real analytic Eisenstein series transforming with the Weil representation of Sp(n, Z) on C[(L'/L)(n)]. By relating such an Eisenstein series with a real analytic Jacobi Eisenstein series of degree n, a functional equation for such an Eisenstein series is proved. Employing a doubling method for Jacobi forms of higher degree established by Arakawa, we transfer the aforementioned functional equation to a zeta function defined by the eigenvalues of a Jacobi eigenform. Finally, we obtain the analytic continuation and a functional equation of the standard L-function attached to a Jacobi eigenform, which was already proved by Murase, however in a different way.
Love in the Context of Transnational Academic Exchanges: Promoting Mental Health and Wellbeing

Educational and cultural dimensions of transnational academic exchange such as student exchanges, double degree programmes, internships have been researched but the romantic dimensions are almost overlooked, especially qualitatively, while Green (EU’s Erasmus study abroad programme is ‘responsible for 1m babies’, 2014) documents that one quarter students on Erasmus exchange scheme met their long-term partner while studying abroad.
The chapter explores love, with focus on formation of intimate relations in academic exchanges in the European settings. The method is case-studies drawn from two projects based in Denmark, the first about ethnically intermarried couples (Singla, Intermarriage and mixed parenting: Promoting mental health & wellbeing, crossover love. Palgrave Macmillan, 2015) and the second, an ongoing project about LAT (Living Apart Together) transnational couples (Singla & Varma, LAT (Living Apart Together) transnational couples: Promoting mental health and wellbeing, 2018), moving beyond ‘methodological nationalism and- conjugalism’.
The theoretical framework is Cultural Psychology and foreground is a combination of Narrative Psychology, intersectionality, digital emotional reflexivity and transnationalism. Moreover, aspects related to figuring out criteria of the exchange situation abroad, which can underpin explaining the high rate of long-term relationships while studying abroad, are included. Those aspects are based on a framework, in which intercultural and developmental psychological findings are linked. The 3–4 case studies are drawn from empirical research with eight couples in the first study and 20 couples in the second. The narratives are thematically analysed, whereas two themes regarding participants’ motivation for establishing relationship despite differences and long-term sustaining of the relationship are described in the chapter.
Preliminary findings nuance the phenomenon of love in academic exchanges, invoking concepts such as educational homogamy, balancing independence and togetherness, diversities of connectivities intersecting social media and intimacies. Furthermore, the significant others’ support and opposition of these couples’ love dynamics are covered, along with considerations linked to the concept of the emotional availability (Saunders, Kraus, Barone & Biringen, Frontiers in Psychology, 2015) based on Bowlby’s attachment theory and the shared third (Benjamin, Psychoanalytic Quarterly, 73(1), 5–46, 2004).
Lastly, ‘good practices’ for promoting the mental health and wellbeing of such academic exchange couples are delineated along with suggestions for relevant services for those experiencing psychosocial problems.

The tightening of the emission legislation and political and social demands for sustainable mobility are forcing the automotive industry to develop complex, high precision mechatronic drive systems. The increasing precision of mechatronic components generally leads to an increase in structural excitation and thus to a rise in noise. The so-called ticking of the fuel injection system has a rather low sound pressure level compared to the residual engine noise. Nevertheless, the impulsive and high frequency noise character leads to a decline concerning the perception of comfort and sound quality. In order to identify the sound quality of fuel injection systems as a frontloading measure, a system test bench has been developed which represents the structure-borne and airborne sound radiation of the stand-alone injection system in a close to series configuration. In this paper, measures for the acoustic optimization of injection systems and their effects on the robustness of the system are discussed. The focus is on engine idling, since at this operating point the ticking of the injectors and high-pressure pump can be perceived most clearly due to the low masking effects of other noise sources. For this purpose, the injection parameters were measured during full engine operation and transferred to the system test bench. By using a special development control unit, it was possible to modify the parameters, quantify their influence on the acoustic behavior and, based on this, define NVH optimized control strategies. For the robustness evaluation of the NVH optimized control strategies, key functions of the injection system were analyzed under varying boundary conditions in system operation on an injection rate test bench.
Introduction
International studies show a relation between functional dysphonia and mental disorders. The aim of this study was to determine a correlation between functional dysphonia, anxiety and depression for Germany. Methods
A cross-sectional study including 66 patients with functional voice disorder was conducted. The data was collected using standardized self-reported instruments for measuring voice disorders (VHI-30), anxiety and depression (HADS-D, STADI (T)).
Results
High self-assessment values for dysphonia indicate a higher probability of anxiety and depression. A high value in HADS-D predict a high value in VHI-30.
Conclusion
For this sample a relation between voice disorders, anxiety and depression has been proven.
