Quantum computing is a relatively new paradigm that has raised considerable interest in physics and computer science in general but has so far received little attention in software engineering and architecture. Hybrid applications that consist of both quantum and classical components require the development of appropriate quantum software architectures. However, given that quantum software engineering (QSE) in general is a new research area, quantum software architecture–a subresearch area in QSE is also understudied. The goal of this chapter is to provide a list of research challenges and opportunities for such architectures. In addition, to make the content understandable to a broader computer science audience, we provide a brief overview of quantum computing and explain the essential technical foundations.
This introductory chapter builds on the topic of intellectual property management and its relevance to the success of innovative start-ups. Existing literature, trends, and developments in the start-up market are presented. The edited volume features six parts corresponding to categorical views of the main stakeholder groups within the start-up ecosystem: the start-up’s view, the investor’s view, the corporation’s view, the university’s view, the global intellectual property office’s view, and the advisor’s view. All chapters are introduced in a condensed form and an overview is given of the topics covered, case studies, regions, and industry sectors, as well as learnings and takeaways from all contributions in this compact compilation.
This chapter provides an overview of common types of patent search and analyses such as novelty search, freedom-to-operate search (FTO), patent landscape, patent-based market and competitor analysis, technology scouting, and infringement assessment. Two special sections highlight the step-by-step approach for conducting a patent technology landscape and a technology scouting. The chapter concludes with practical tips for applying patent search results in a strategic and operative view.
At least 80% of modern and postmodern poems exhibit neither rhyme nor metrical schemes such as iamb or trochee. However, does this mean that they are free of any rhythmical features?TheUS American research onfree verse prosody claimsthe opposite: Modern poets like Whitman, the Imagists, the Beat poets and contemporary Slam poets have developed a postmetrical idea of prosody, using rhythmical features of everyday language, prose, and musical styles like Jazz or Hip Hop. It has spawned a large and complex variety intheir poetic prosodies
which, however, appearto bemuchharderto quantify and regularize than traditional patterns. In our project, we examinethe largest portal for spoken poetry Lyrikline and analysed and classified such rhythmical patterns by using pattern recognition and classification techniques. We integrate a human-in-the-loop approach in which we interleave manual annotation with computational modelling and data-based analysis. Our results are integrated into the website of Lyrikline. Our follow-up project makes our research results available to a wider audience, in particular to high school-level teaching.
The field of AI is characterized by robust promises, astonishing successes, and remarkable breakthroughs. AI will play a major role in all domains of clinical medicine, but the role of AI in relation to the physician is not yet completely determined. The term artificial intelligence or AI is broad, and several different terms are used in this context that must be organized and demystified. This chapter will review the key concepts and methods of AI, and will introduce some of the different roles for AI in relation to the physician.

Fire Safety in Road Tunnels
(2022)
Modern industrial societies need efficient and safe transportation systems for their existence and progress. Tunnels form an important component of road transportation systems in many countries. However, significant fire incidents within them have highlighted human safety as a major concern, resulting in considerable changes to the safety requirements to be satisfied during the design and assessment of new and existing tunnels, respectively. This chapter discusses state-of-practice related to the implementation of risk analysis methods in road tunnel projects. It reviews relevant safety criteria in standards and describes basic aspects on risk acceptance and decision-making with respect to the choice of the safety measures to be implemented. This contribution presents the determination of human safety consequences for use in risk analysis by considering design fires, the development and spread of effects of such fires and emergency evacuation of people. The methodology is illustrated via a case study that deals with the re-qualification of an existing road tunnel in Wales.

In recent years, there has been an increase in robots that perform activities in the built environment. In this chapter, projects were featured as case studies to demonstrate the potential of using automation and robotic technologies to facilitate building façade installation tasks. The Building Energy Renovation Through Timber-Prefabricated Modules (BERTIM) and the Highly automatEd PHysical Achievements and performancES using cable roboTs Unique Systems (HEPHAESTUS) research projects consist of researching, developing and prototyping different automated solutions for the handling of building envelopes in various processes of the installation sequence. The BERTIM research project focuses on building envelope upgrading, automated building façade manufacturing, while the HEPHAESTUS research project is focused on the cable-driven parallel robot for the installation of curtain wall modules. Both projects have proved the potential use of new technologies for the installation of prefabricated envelopes and reduced working time and costs during installation.
