DevOps paradigm

DevOps, the widely used term in software industry, integrates the Development and IT Operations activities to frequently deliver, deploy, and release quality software features. DevOps approach emphasizes collaboration among Developments and IT operations teams throughout System Development Life Cycle (SDLC). The DevOps process is supported by wide variety of tool chains for various phases of SDLC. There exist many DevOps models. However, in this paper authors use a simple four phase pedagogical models to demonstrate principles of DevOps. In this paper authors attempt to show how DevOps principles can effectively be used to manage and implement business problems in classroom setting. Specifically, DevOps methodology is applied to manage develop and implement a small web application.
This pedagogical approach is specially aimed at students who do not have prior experiences and skillsets in applying DevOps methodology and associated toolsets to every stages of SDLC. At the conclusion of the project, students gained valuable insights on how to apply DevOps principles to business problems and to select and use commonly used state of the arts tools to plan, manage, build, test, monitor, deploy tasks at every stages of DevOps. The authors also discuss the limitations and practical issues related to implementing DevOps within classroom settings.
Murphy-Good plots are the most recent type of the analysis methods in the field electron emission theory, this type of plots has several useful characteristics such as: having the very-nearly straight line to represent the current-voltage characteristics and the absence of the correction factors in the mathematical procedure of the analysis process. In this study, n-type <111> and <100> Si chips containing four individual emitters are used as base emitters and mounted in a diode configuration field emission setup where the experiments are operated in an ultra-high vacuum ( 10-7 Pa). Each chip has four individual controllable emitters with 5 µm distance between the Si tips and the same material grid. Laser micromachining and subsequent wet chemical etching technique is used to structure and polish the tips. Murphy-Good plots are used to study the behavior of the Si individual tips and compare the results with the array current by extracting the field emission characterization parameters of the emitters.
The use of alternative fuels in high-power non-road mobile machinery (NRMM) combustion engines is a possible way to substitute fossil fuel. By using pure vegetable oil fuels, like rapeseed oil fuel (DIN 51605), the greenhouse gases can be reduced effectively. Due to the differences in physical and chemical properties, a modification of the engine control unit calibration is necessary to adapt the working process on the fuel. Without modifications, the engine power output with rapeseed oil fuel is lower than with diesel fuel because of the smaller energy content. By adapting the engine settings, like the injection fuel mass, the power loss can be compensated but it accompanies with a higher fuel consumption. The engine emissions at part load conditions show, that there are benefits in particle emissions by using rapeseed oil at similar NOx emissions. Therefore, a design of experiment setup was initiated on a selected engine operation point to determine the effects of further parameters, like rail pressure, manifold pressure and injection pattern, on the process and to see the potential of an optimized calibration.
[(TeO<sub>2</sub>)<sub>0.7</sub>(B<sub>2</sub>O<sub>3</sub>)<sub>0.3</sub>]<sub>1-x </sub>(BaO)<sub>x</sub>, x = 0.00, 0.05, 0.10, 0.20, 0.25, 0.30 and 0.35 mol fraction glass series were successfully synthesized by conventional melt quenching method. Amorphous phase of all samples was confirmed through X-ray diffraction while optical properties were determined using UV-VIS spectrophotometer. Fourier Transform Infrared (FTIR) analysis showed that the glass structure consisted of TeO<sub>3</sub>, TeO<sub>4</sub>, TeO<sub>6</sub>, BO<sub>3</sub> and BO<sub>4</sub> structural units. The optical band gap energy, E<sub>opt</sub> which was calculated from Tauc’ plots decreased as the amount of BaO increases, whereas, the Urbach energy value increased. The increase in Urbach energy value was attributed to the increase of defects in glass structure. The refractive indices of glass were found to increase along with the increased amount of BaO, due to the high polarization and high density of host material and glass modifier. The molar polarizability, α<sub>m,</sub> oxide ion polarizability, α<sub>o</sub><sup>2-</sup> and optical basicity, Λ of the glasses are calculated by Lorentz-Lorenz equation. The glasses were found to possess α<sub>m</sub> values between 8.106 – 8.489 Å<sup>3</sup>, and α<sub>o</sub><sup>2-</sup> values between 3.303 to 4.772. Meanwhile, optical basicity increases from 0.115 to 0.893.</p>
IS resilience addresses the challenge of securing organizational information systems against disruptions to ensure the continuation of daily business processes and to guarantee the resilience of the organization as a whole. In this paper, we adopt Agency Theory and Weill’s IT Governance framework to investigate the decision priorities of senior executives in the context of IS resilience planning, which falls under the broader umbrella of IT governance. The management of IS resilience involves different fields of action types and interests which decision-makers within organizations must confront. This is of special importance for small- to medium-sized companies (SMEs) where IS often is not a dedicated or small corporate function. This paper identifies distinctive character types of corporate decision-makers at SMEs in a European context and their priorities in IS resilience. The study was performed using Q-methodology. It was able to identify and describe three additional types of decision-makers in comparison to previous research thereby clearly showing that the field has progressed. These character types provide an informative insight into the priorities of IS resilience planning in SMEs and show differences and commonalities between decision-makers.
Objective: Artificial intelligence (AI) may reduce underdiagnosed or overlooked upper GI (UGI) neoplastic and preneoplastic conditions, due to subtle appearance and low disease prevalence. Only disease-specific AI performances have been reported, generating uncertainty on its clinical value.
Design: We searched PubMed, Embase and Scopus until July 2020, for studies on the diagnostic performance of AI in detection and characterisation of UGI lesions. Primary outcomes were pooled diagnostic accuracy, sensitivity and specificity of AI. Secondary outcomes were pooled positive (PPV) and negative (NPV) predictive values. We calculated pooled proportion rates (%), designed summary receiving operating characteristic curves with respective area under the curves (AUCs) and performed metaregression and sensitivity analysis.
Results: Overall, 19 studies on detection of oesophageal squamous cell neoplasia (ESCN) or Barrett's esophagus-related neoplasia (BERN) or gastric adenocarcinoma (GCA) were included with 218, 445, 453 patients and 7976, 2340, 13 562 images, respectively. AI-sensitivity/specificity/PPV/NPV/positive likelihood ratio/negative likelihood ratio for UGI neoplasia detection were 90% (CI 85% to 94%)/89% (CI 85% to 92%)/87% (CI 83% to 91%)/91% (CI 87% to 94%)/8.2 (CI 5.7 to 11.7)/0.111 (CI 0.071 to 0.175), respectively, with an overall AUC of 0.95 (CI 0.93 to 0.97). No difference in AI performance across ESCN, BERN and GCA was found, AUC being 0.94 (CI 0.52 to 0.99), 0.96 (CI 0.95 to 0.98), 0.93 (CI 0.83 to 0.99), respectively. Overall, study quality was low, with high risk of selection bias. No significant publication bias was found.
Conclusion: We found a high overall AI accuracy for the diagnosis of any neoplastic lesion of the UGI tract that was independent of the underlying condition. This may be expected to substantially reduce the miss rate of precancerous lesions and early cancer when implemented in clinical practice.
Evaluation of muscle recruitment and muscle models in musculoskeletal simulation of dynamic motion

Musculoskeletal simulation plays an increasingly important role in sports biomechanics. In the last years, the field of application widened from orthopaedics and ergonomics to sports [1]. A muscle recruitment algorithm with a quadratic objective function is usually used to calculate muscle activity in dynamic movements. The agreement of calculated and measured thigh muscle activity has already been investigated [2]. They found a strong agreement for sprinting and running, while the correlation decreased for side-cutting manoeuvres. Nevertheless, the influence of different muscle recruitment criteria on muscle activity in dynamic musculoskeletal simulations is currently unknown. Hence, this study aimed to analyse the effect of different muscle recruitment criteria and muscle models on the correlation of numerical and measured muscle activity in highly dynamic movements.
Degradation and release of tannic acid from an injectable tissue regeneration bead matrix in vivo

The development of multifunctional biomaterials as both tissue regeneration and drug delivery devices is currently a major focus in biomedical research. Tannic Acid (TA), a naturally occurring plant polyphenol, displays unique medicinal abilities as an antioxidant, an antibiotic, and as an anticancer agent. TA has applications in biomaterials acting as a crosslinker in polymer hydrogels improving thermal stability and mechanical properties. We have developed injectable cell seeded collagen beads crosslinked with TA for breast reconstruction and anticancer activity following lumpectomy. This study determined the longevity of the bead implants by establishing a degradation time line and TA release profile in vivo. Beads crosslinked with 0.1% TA and 1% TA were compared to observe the differences in TA concentration on degradation and release. We found collagen/TA beads degrade at similar rates in vivo, yet are resistant to complete degradation after 16 weeks. TA is released over time in vivo through diffusion and cellular activity. Changes in mechanical properties in collagen/TA beads before implantation to after 8 weeks in vivo also indicate loss of TA over a longer period of time. Elastic moduli decreased uniformly in both 0.1% and 1% TA beads. This study establishes that collagen/TA materials can act as a drug delivery system, rapidly releasing TA within the first week following implantation. However, the beads retain TA long term allowing them to resist degradation and remain in situ acting as a cell scaffold and tissue filler. This confirms its potential use as an anticancer and minimally invasive breast reconstructive device following lumpectomy.
Speech quality and likability is a multi-faceted phenomenon consisting of a combination of perceptory features that cannot easily be computed nor weighed automatically. Yet, it is often easy to decide which of two voices one likes better, even though it would be hard to describe why, or to name the underlying basic perceptory features. Although likability is inherently subjective and individual preferences differ, generalizations are useful and there is often a broad intersubjective consensus about whether one speaker is more likeable than another. We present a methodology to efficiently create a likability ranking for many speakers from crowdsourced pairwise likability ratings which focuses manual rating effort on pairs of similar quality using an active sampling technique. Using this methodology, we collected pairwise likability ratings for many speakers (>220) from many raters (>160). We analyze listener preferences by correlating the resulting ranking with various acoustic and prosodic features. We also present a neural network that is able to model the complexity of listener preferences and the underlying temporal evolution of features. The recurrent neural network achieves remarkably high performance in estimating the pairwise decisions and an ablation study points toward the criticality of modeling temporal aspects in speech quality assessment.
Dubbing, i.e., the lip-synchronous translation and revoicing of audio-visual media into a target language from a different source language, is essential for the full-fledged reception of foreign audio-visual media, be it movies, instructional videos or short social media clips. In this paper, we objectify influences on the ‘dubbability’ of translations, i.e., how well a translation would be synchronously revoiceable to the lips on screen. We explore the value of traditional heuristics used in evaluating the qualitative aspects, in particular matching bilabial consonants and the jaw opening while producing vowels, and control for quantity, i.e., that translations are similar to the source in length. We perform an ablation study using an adversarial neural classifier which is trained to differentiate “true” dubbing translations from machine translations. While we are able to confirm the value of matching lip closure in dubbing, we find that the opening angle of the jaw as determined by the realized vowel may be less relevant than frequently considered in audio-visual translation.
