N2 - The paper is based on theoretical and empirical studies on migrants in Germany. Sociological and economic approaches in migration research are discussed. The theoretical focus lies on migrant’s social networks in the country of origin or country of destination. The influence of social capital on migration decision-making and the process of chain migration is outlined. The impact of location specific social capital on migration and on return migration is shown using official data on Italian migrants in Germany and survey data. The CBRN GSR currently in use by the CAF is the C4 respirator. The National Research Council of Canada assessed the communication performance of the C4 respirator. This report presents the results of the performance test. The method for assessing the communication performance used in this study was the NIOSH standard test procedure TEB-CBRN-APR-STP-0313 [1]. Other methods exist to evaluate the communication performance of respirators, but historically the NIOSH standard test procedure has been used. This report details the implementation and results of the tests conducted at the National Research Council of Canada, following the NIOSH standard test procedure. Living Laboratory – Demonstration eines komplett reinen Wasserstoff-Brennstoffzellen-Systems (Living H2). Deliverable 6.4 N2 - The aim of this deliverable is to report about empirical research on social acceptance of fuel cell technology for energy generation. Different stakeholder groups in France and Germany were asked about their level of knowledge and their attitude towards fuel cell technology and hydrogen-powered heating systems with an online survey (Germany: n=106, France: n=8). From an expert’s point of view the future importance of hydrogen heating systems is estimated to be very high. For the evaluation, sustainability aspects, autonomy, and independence regarding energy consumption are considered paramount. Results show that subjective knowledge on hydrogen technology is rather low, and concerns are widespread. A technology acceptance model was established and empirically tested. The linear regression model shows that for acceptance, sustainability of energy consumption and autonomy from prices on the electricity market are crucial; the more respondents know about the technology, acceptance rates fall. Experts point out that the hydrogen economy cannot be considered as being mature and that risks exist. They also state a lack of political strategy and concepts for a hydrogen economy. There are differences and similarities concerning the preferred scenario for the distribution and use of hydrogen between Germany and France. In both countries, there is not dispute about that the H 2 production plant should be close to a renewable energy generation plant and distribution should not employ trucks. The employment of the technology with a 100 % H 2 fuel cell cogeneration system receives high acceptance rates in both countries. In Germany, in contrast to France, a scenario with H 2 pipeline and H 2 boiler is not considered reasonable. Preferred is a combination of H 2 pipeline, local heating networks, and fuel cell cogeneration. Given these findings, in what follows, recommendations for action are derived.
