Whether multishaded blocks improve esthetic results and are a viable alternative to individually stained ceramics has not been fully determined. Purpose: The aim of this investigation was to examine the effect of multishaded blocks on the esthetic appearance of all-ceramic CEREC crowns and compare these crowns with single-shade and stained restorations. Material and methods: Ten subjects were included in this study. For each subject, 6 different crowns were milled with the use of a CEREC machine. One crown was milled from each of the following machinable ceramic materials: CEREC Vitablocs Mark II in classic colors; Vitablocs Mark II in 3D-Master colors; Vitablocs Mark II in either classic or 3D-Master colors, with additional staining; Megadenta Bloxx multishaded; Mark II experimental multilayer; and an experimental multilayer leucite ceramic. Three independent examiners assessed the esthetic appearance of crowns fabricated to match each subject's anterior tooth shade. A scale of 1 to 6 was used to score the shade match and esthetic adaptation of each crown, with 1 representing excellent characteristics and 3.5 serving as the threshold for clinical acceptability. The examiners' scores were averaged, and the mean values were analyzed with the Wilcoxon signed rank test (P or = 1.70, with a (70:30) 2.3-fold risk of recurrence (P=.024) and reduced RFS of 10 months (P=.003) in cases of DI > or = 1.70. A high 5c-ER > 11% was associated with pelvic lymph node involvement and decreased RFS (P < or = .04). Significantly more relapses were found in tumors with SPF > 12% (70.8% vs. 29.2%, P=.007). RFS was markedly reduced in tumors with high SPF (52.3 vs. 61.1 months, P=.011). Low proliferative tumors (PI<25%) were associated with lower stage (P=.036) and increased RFS (61.2 vs. 47.1 months, P=.028). In multivariate analysis of clinicopathologic variables (pT category, nodal status, lymphovascular space involvement) and DNA related variables, pelvic lymph node involvement was the only significant predictor of RFS. In patients with nodal involvement, tumors with DI >1.70 were associated with lessfavorable outcomes. Conclusion: DNA-related variables of cell cycle analysis were valuablefor predicting prognosis in cervical cancer patients. Tumors with DI>1.70, 5c-ER >11% and high proliferative activity (SPF>12%, PI>25%) represent a subgroup with a poor prognosis. However, there is limited information on the impact of these parameters in cervical carcinoma. Methods Quantitative levels for uPA (n = 114) and PAI‐1 (n = 103) were researched in operatively treated, surgically staged squamous cell cancer of the uterine cervix, using an ELISA‐technique. Results were assessed regarding their impact in predicting pelvic lymph nodes metastases, tumour recurrence rate and recurrence free survival (RFS) using uni‐ and multivariate analysis. Results Median levels of both parameters were significantly higher in tumour tissue than in normal cervical tissue (p < 0.001). Detection of uPA gave no useful prognostic information. PAI‐1 concentration showed a positive correlation with advanced tumour stage (p = 0.008), but no significant correlation with nodal status (pN0: 2.6 vs. pN1: 4.0 ng/mg protein; p = 0.092). Using a cut‐off level of 2.4 ng/mg protein, patients with elevated PAI‐1 levels demonstrated reduced RFS (45.9 versus 52.9 months; p = 0.1). Multivariate analysis, including nodal status, tumour stage, lymphovascular space involvement and grading failed to demonstrate any prognostic impact of uPA and PAI‐1. Conclusions The results indicate, that PAI‐1 expression is of some prognostic impact in cervical cancer, indicating an association of elevated PAI levels with local tumour progression and reduced recurrence‐free survival. März 2012, Darmstadt, Germany N2 - The high frequency oscillation artificial respiration technique is often the last hope for patients to survive highly damaged lung tissue. The mortality can significantly be reduced. In comparison to conventional artificial respiration the applied volume flow rate and pressure is significantly lowered in order to avoid further damaging of lung tissue and remaining intact alveolae. However, the physical mechanism of transport of oxygen to the aeriols under high frequency oscillation is not well understood. In the upper part of the lung convection is dominant, in contrast, the gas exchange in the lower parts of the lung is mainly driven by diffusion. It is not clear how associated gradients of concentrations of different molecular species are then achieved. Highly oscillating fluid flows has been a long research topic in fluid dynamics. It is known that oscillating pressure fluctuations are able to induce secondary flows, in particular, in curved ducts and pipes. The question is, whether the trachea enforces the generation of secondary flow by its kidney like cross section geometry. The influence of molecular species of different densities onto the formation of secondary flows and the convectional transport within the trachea is investigated. In order to clarify the physical mechanisms behind flow simulations have been conducted by using state of the art CFD techniques. This alumina body was formed by three classes of particles differing in size and shape: faceted particles typically ≤4 μm in diameter, platelets of average diameter 8 μm, 1.5 μm thickness, and small spheres 0.4 μm in diameter. The outstanding strength properties of the composite (600 MPa, ball-on-ring test) are a result of the high wetting capability of the glass phase on the Al2O3 surface. In addition, plastic strain relaxation in the faceted particles by dislocation formation compensates partially for residual stresses and impedes crack formation at the glass/Al2O3 interface. Among these alloys, there are the conventional alloys, the so called casting alloys used without ceramics, the bonding alloys used with high fusing ceramics and the universal alloys used without or with low fusing ceramics. It is im portant to know the physical and mechanical properties of these materials but also their biocompatibility and their resistance to corrosion. Dental alloys are generally placed in the mouth for many years, they must not induce adverse biological reactions such as gingival swelling and erythema, mucosal pain and lichenoid reactions. Although these troubles are often caused not by the materials itself (1, 2), they can be induced by the metallic ions released during their corrosion. In order to decrease the risks to the health, it is necessary to study the corrosion of the dental alloys. Currently, the ISO 10271 Standard (3), describes 3 different corrosion tests: a static immersion test (chemical corrosion), an electrochemic al test and a tarnish test. However, there are no indications yet about the possible interpretation of test results. In this paper, we propose a method to compare and classify the dental alloys in relation to their chemical and electrochemical corrosion results. METHODS: The material tested are pure metals such as gold, palladium, silver, copper and zinc as well as dental alloys which are commercially sold (see Table 1). 54 different materials have been tested. A minimum of four samples of each material were tested by electrochemic al corrosio n and a minimum of three in chemical test. The samples were cast and prepared as indicated by the manufacturer and by the ISO 10271. For the electrochemical test, the samples are in the form of disks 11 mm in diameter. They are tested with a potentiostat/galvanostat Voltalab Model 21. For the chemical test, the samples are rectangular with the dimensions 35X10X1.7 mm. The solution used and the operating conditions are described in the ISO 10271. We created a novel drug-eluting stent system that includes several new features in the rapidly evolving field of stent-based drug delivery. Methods and Results The aim of the present study was the preclinical evaluation of a stent-coating system permitting individual, on-site coating of stents with a unique microporous surface allowing for individualizable, dose-adjustable, and multiple coatings with identical or various compounds, designated ISAR (individualizable drug-eluting stent system to abrogate restenosis). Stents were coated with 0.75% rapamycin solution, and high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC)-based determination of drug release profile indicated drug release for >21 days. Rapamycin-eluting microporous (REMP) stents implanted in porcine coronary arteries were safe. To determine the efficacy of REMP stents, this novel drug-eluting stent platform was compared with the standard sirolimus-eluting stent. At 30 days, in-stent neointima formation in porcine coronary arteries was similar in both groups, yielding a significant decrease of neointimal area and injury-dependent neointimal thickness compared with bare-metal stents. Conclusion The ISAR drug-eluting stent platform as a novel concept for stent coating allows for a safe, effective, on-site stent coating process, thus justifying further clinical evaluation to decrease in-stent restenosis in humans. In-stent neointima formation can be successfully attenuated by drug-eluting stents. We introduce a novel conceptual approach for stent-coating that allows for dose-adjustable, on-site stent coating process if desired with multiple compounds. Microporous stents coated with rapamycin proved safe and effective for the limitation of neointima formation in a porcine coronary stent model. Along with the success shown, current DES also present limitations related to the presence of polymer-coating, fixed drug, and dose used. With the ISAR (Individualized Drug-Eluting Stent System to Abrogate Restenosis) project, a DES system has been developed that permits individualized choice of the drug and dose to use for the given patient. The objective of this prospective dose finding study was to assess the feasibility, safety, and efficacy of a polymer-free on-site stent coating with increasing rapamycin doses. Methods and results In this dose finding study, 602 patients were sequentially enrolled in four groups: microporous bare metal stent (BMS), DES stents coated with a 0.5, 1.0, and 2.0% rapamycin solution. The angiographic in-segment restenosis rate at follow-up angiography was the primary study endpoint. In-segment restenosis was significantly reduced from 25.9% with BMS to 18.9, 17.2, and 14.7% with 0.5, 1.0, and 2.0% rapamycin-eluting stents, respectively (P=0.024). Similarly, the need for target lesion revascularization at 1 year follow-up was reduced from 21.5% with BMS to 16.4, 12.6, and 8.8% with 0.5, 1.0, and 2.0% rapamycin-eluting stents, respectively (P=0.006). Conclusion The placement of polymer-free stents coated on-site with rapamycin is feasible and safe. Furthermore, a dose-dependent efficacy in restenosis prevention is achievable with this new DES concept. Whereas “readout poetry” often uses normal words and sentences, the “sound poetry”, developed by dadaistic poets like Hugo Ball and Kurt Schwitters or concrete poets like Ernst Jandl, Oskar Pastior, or Bob Cobbing, combines the “microparticles of the human voice” like the segments in Ernst Jandls sound poem “schtzngrmm” (“schtzngrmm / schtzngrmm / tttt / tttt / grrrmmmmm / tttt / sch / tzngrmm”). Within the genre of sound poetry, there are two main forms: The lettristic and the syllabic decomposition. A short anecdote will explain this difference: The dadaist Raoul Hausmann developed the lettristic sound poetry in his early dadaistic poem “fmsbw” from 1918. This is said to have inspired his successor Schwitters, whose famous “Ursonate” [The Sonata in Primal Speech] begins with the words “Fümms bö wö tää zää Uu”. With the “Ursonate”, Schwitters developed a syllabic variation of the lettristic poems of Hausmann. The paper shows how to train a bidirectional LSTM network in order to differ between these “dadaistic” sound poems and the “normal” read out poems. In a further step, we will also show how to distinguish between the lettristic and the syllabic decomposition. Based on a bidirectional LSTM network that reads encodings of the character sequence in the poem and uses the output of each directional layer, we identify poems of the sound poetry genre and differentiate between its two types of compositions. The classification results of sound poetry vs. other poetry as well as lettristic vs. syllabic decomposition are with a high performance, yielding a f-scores of 0.86 and 0.84, respectively. Besides the common advantagesof conventional Laser Beam Melting (LBM), multi-material components built by SLBM can fulfill different productrequirements like different chemical resistances or haptic material properties within a single part. To achieve suchparts, different powder materials are deposited next to each other and preheated a few degrees below their meltingtemperatures by infrared emitters and laser radiation (λ = 10.60 μm), before in the last step the preheated powdersare molten simultaneously by an additional laser source (λ = 1.94 μm). In this paper, different polymer powders likepolypropylene (PP) and polyamide 12 (PA12) are used for the generation of multi-material specimens. By varyingdifferent building parameters according to a specified design of experiments, their influence on the part properties isanalyzed. Important building parameters are the intensity and the irradiation time of the laser beam used for meltingthe preheated powders. Besides using tensile tests to determine the tensile strength and the elongation at break, theaverage part height in dependence of the energy input is analyzed. The overall aim is to specify the correlationbetween different building parameters regarding the energy deposition on the resulting part properties. With a measurement setup using two integration spheres, it was shown that the optical material properties of polymer powders differ significantly due to multiple reflections within the powder compared to solid bodies of the same material. Additionally, the absorption behavior of the single particles shows an important influence on the overall optical material properties, especially the reflectance of the powder bed. Now the setup is modified to allow measurements at higher temperatures. Because crystalline areas of semi-crystalline thermoplastics are mainly responsible for the absorption of the laser radiation, the influence of the temperature increase on the overall optical material properties is analyzed. As material, conventional polyamide 12 and polypropylene as new polymer powder material, is used. By comparing results at room temperature and at higher temperatures towards the melting point, the temperature-dependent optical material properties and their influence on the beam-matter interaction during the process are discussed. It is shown that the phase transition during melting leads to significant changes of the optical material properties of the analyzed powders. In this work, different weight percentages of nano-scaled silica dioxide particles (Aerosil®) are admixed to pure polyethylene and polypropylene powder and the resulting flowability is determined. Besides using the Hausner ratio as standardized value, the degree of coverage is introduced as a new characteristic to quantify the powder flowability. The degrees of coverage are compared to the Hausner ratios to allow a discussion and evaluation about the different characteristic values. Additionally, tensile bars consisting of polypropylene are generated to determine the porosity by cross sections and the mechanical part properties by tensile testing. As mechanical part properties, the tensile strength and elongation at break are determined and the effects of different powder flowability on these properties are analyzed. The paper focuses on the back tracing of the pore morphology of laser sintered polyamide-12 samples to the process parameters. Therefore, a data base is used which is supplied by a Round Robin initiative and includes mechanical tensile tests and the microstructural analysis of the pore morphology of several different sample charges built with different machines. The pore morphologies (porosity, pore density, pore shape and pore arrangement) measured by X-ray computed tomography are compared and discussed regarding the employed parameters and the resulting mechanical properties. The investigations point out that pore density is a superior indicator than porosity for mechanical issues. This is especially valid along the build direction since pore morphology has shown to be strongly anisotropic. Moreover, the analysis revealed that pore density is strongly affected by the process temperature, which is proved to be essential for the fabrication of mechanical robust parts using Selective Laser Sintering. Due to exchange-correlation, a generalized Hund’s rule in magnetic field can be established which leads to spin alignment in partially occupied energy shells at the Fermi energy. This results, in distinct spin structures in single-electron addition spectra. Current-dependent exchange-correlation modifies the magnetic-field dependence of the ground state configuration and leads to deviations from plain spin-density calculations. Moreover it gives rise to spontaneous current textures at zero magnetic field. Collective excitation spectra, explicitly calculated for inelastic light scattering, exhibit novel features in their magnetic field dependence due to a finite ground-state spin density. Current socio-cultural and socio-economic challenges – in particular: the commodification and acceleration in the context of education and learning – results in a wide range of pressing time issues. However the adult education und the political education pay little attention to the importance of time. For this reason, this issue will be deepened in the article. First, the situation of the political adult education and secondly, the state of research are examined. On the base of the findings, three approaches are pointed out, which emphasize the importance of time for the political adult education: political education as a process and as a deceleration and also as a subject to understand and judge the temporality of politics and society as a necessary condition to participate in shaping the time structures. The paper ends with an outlook and open-ended questions, which adjoin the time theoretical considerations. The new "power-to-gas" concept opens up completely new possibilities for the integration of renewable energies and for coupling the electricity and gas grids. The Sabatier process, which has been known for 100 years, was first developed for this purpose in 2008 under the leadership of the Center for Solar Energy and Hydrogen Research and Fraunhofer IWES (formerly ISET) with electrolysis to create the "power-to-gas" concept for energy storage. A first pilot plant was built by ZSW Stuttgart on behalf of SolarFuel in 2009. This plant proves the technical feasibility of the new technology. Renewable gas is stored, transported and used as required as control and reserve energy via reconversion, e.g. in combined cycle power plants. In this way, decentrally generated renewable electricity is converted into a CO2 -neutral energy carrier with high energy density. The key advantage of renewable methane is the use of existing infrastructure such as gas grids, gas storage and end-use equipment for the integration of renewable energy. Technologies for natural gas are state of the art and commercially available. Methane also has three times the energy density of hydrogen. Among the participating projects, the one presented herein focuses on the development of a smart expansion joint, to assess the traffic parameters on site. This is achieved by measuring velocity and weight of crossing vehicles. In reference measurements, performed with a three-axle truck and a typical tractor semi-trailer combination with five axles in total, it was shown that the interaction between the vehicle and the expansion joint is highly dynamic and depends on several factors. To get more insight into this dynamic problem, a virtual test rig was set up. Although nearly all vehicle parameters had to be estimated, the simulation results conform very well with the measurements and are robust to vehicle parameter variations. In addition, they indicate a significant influence of the expansion joint dynamic to the peak values of the measured wheel loads, in particular on higher driving velocities. By compensating the relevant dynamic effects in the measurements, a “smart” data processing algorithm makes it possible to determine the actual vehicle weights in random traffic with reliability and appropriate accuracy. Sustained physical activity matters greatly to the health and well-being of older people and significantly improves their chance of maintaining independent living. It can make a difference across the whole care continuum as well as in almost every setting. Therefore, REACH solutions focus on the systematic, target-oriented increase of physical activity of older people, and tackle the whole prevention spectrum (primary, secondary, and tertiary). It seeks to empower older people and their formal and informal caregivers, and works towards viable solutions for both the formal and in-formal care sector. Technology-based personalization of prevention, activation, and care services provided in various living and care settings is at the center of the developed solutions. Ideally toolkit approach would allow for the tailoring of solutions that create value for end-users, care providers and health care payers alike through the combination, integration and adaptation/re-design elements towards the different contexts of different countries, different payment and reimbursement structures. This Special Issue sheds light on such solutions, their conception, their development, and their testing. We perform ablation experiments on the features used by our model and show that fundamental frequency variation is the single most relevant feature class. Therefore, we conclude that future systems can detect whether they are addressed based only on speech prosody which does not (or only to a very limited extent) reveal the content of conversations not intended for the system. With increasing complexity of industrial products, also BOMs become more complex and thus prone to errors, for example when the individual parts of a product are changed during the product development process. Frequently, these Bill of Materials errors have to be identified manually or by using simple, rule-based schemes. In this paper, we provide a technical background of BOMs, showing the intricacy of temporal BOMs errors in an industrial product development process. The work of other authors, which focused on association mining and tree reconciliation to detect Bill of Materials errors, is analysed. We found that there is currently no system being able to prescribe where in a Bill of Materials and when in the product development process, errors are probable to occur. Also, Machine Learning (ML) methods have not been applied yet. Based on these findings, we formalize the notions Bill of Materials and Bill of Materials errors. Furthermore, we present a deterministic distance measure for BOMS. We provide an answer to the main question of how to represent a Bill of Materials for Machine Learning tasks by solving the orthogonal Procrustes problem for dynamic, hierarchical datasets. Then, we describe an isolation forest based approach to temporal anomaly detection, which points at potential errors in a Bill of Materials at a specific timestamp. Furthermore, we apply Machine Learning and present a multi-output Multi Layer Perceptron for the prediction of temporal Bill of Materials errors. The model predicts where and at which point of time Bill of Materials errors are probable to occur, which renders it a prescriptive system. Eventually, we optimize the performance of our model using contextualization via -means clustering. Finally, we apply our prescriptive pipeline to a real world dataset and show its superiority to existing methods using a qualitative comparison. This usually involves expert knowledge, expensive equipment and time-consuming post processing of previously recorded calls. Automated solutions exist, but are usually not as accurate as human experts. We present an automated solution for the processing of bat calls and identification of bat species with extremely high classification accuracy that can be used during live recording or in an automated post-processing software. Our algorithm is the first application of a Deep Convolutional Neural Network to classify bat species based on sound spectrogram images of their echolocation calls. We tested several deep CNN architectures including a modified Google Inception and a ResNet50 architecture. The nets were trained on a very large call database consisting of images of snippets of call spectrograms.
