TY - CHAP A1 - Süzeroğlu-Melchiors, Sevim T1 - Blind As a Mole? How Patent Data can Help Start-ups to Compete T2 - Intellectual Property Management for Start-ups N2 - This chapter provides an overview of common types of patent search and analyses such as novelty search, freedom-to-operate search (FTO), patent landscape, patent-based market and competitor analysis, technology scouting, and infringement assessment. Two special sections highlight the step-by-step approach for conducting a patent technology landscape and a technology scouting. The chapter concludes with practical tips for applying patent search results in a strategic and operative view. Based on a comprehensive literature survey and complemented by case studies, we derive a classification scheme how cash holdings typically evolved in each of these types of uncertainty over the past 30 years by separating between demand for domestic and international cash as well as between transaction and store of value balances. Hereby, we focus on the stabilizing macroeconomic properties of cash and recommendguidelines for cash supply by central banks and the banking system. Finally, we exemplify ouranalysis with five case studies from the developing world, namely Venezuela, Zimbabwe, Afghanistan, Iraq, and Libya. At the core of our discussion are five phases of work design: from conventional (degenerative) work, often perceived as burdensome, through employee-oriented work, human-centeredness, restorative work, and finally to regenerative work, which can return energy to employees (and the environment). We examine the influence that leaders, employees, and HR professionals can have on designing working conditions, jobs, and teams. Practical examples illustrate how companies can achieve a positive energy balance for employees and teams through energy analysis. We emphasize that regenerative work is not a distant ideal but an achievable goal that can be realized through the conscious design of the workplace. Through a thematic analysis of 28 method-relevant papers, key characteristics and good practices for executing expert interviews are identified. Additionally, 39 highly cited IS studies were reviewed to examine expert interview utilization in IS research and to identify good practices for presenting expert interview outcomes, which are further validated on nine digital transformation (DT) studies. Our findings highlight the adaptability and varied applications of expert interviews in IS research and offer recommendations to strengthen rigor in their preparation, execution, and presentation of outcomes. Theoretical and practical implications are provided to guide a more systematic and rigorous use of expert interviews in IS research. Does population aging harm economic growth? We exploit process-generated data from a large and typical service-sector company. We find no decline in average productivity in the age range of 20-60. This result is precisely measured. Our innovative identification strategy corrects for sample selection, endogeneity of age composition and age-cohort confounding. Our big data are essential to extract the signal from the noise that has marred many previous studies. While average productivity stays flat, we find variation according to task complexity. Productivity increases with age in teams with more demanding tasks and decreases in routine tasks. Thus, an already considerable number of studies have been developed in recent years presenting approaches to transfer models or proposing a range of indicators to measure transfer performance from a universities’ perspective. The research project Transfer_i (transfer indicators) aims to present a transfer model approach, which reflects the complexity of knowledge and technology transfer processes in order to overcome the limited perspectives of existing models. The empirical study in progress presented in this paper shows first findings, which validate the developed approach. In contrast to nearly all other studies presenting only a universities’ viewpoint, this study shows the perspective of the other actors within the transfer practice, thereby providing useful insights for universities and research institutions on how to value their third mission activities.
