Religion was one fundamental base for explanations and existential questions. Philosophy and Science were the other. Nowadays, science and technology dominate our daily lives, religion and metaphysics have lost their former dominance, while our thoughts and factual knowledge are increasingly governed by the digitised versions of conversation and discussion, filtered and guided by the algorithms of social networks. Today, "artificial intelligence" is a phenomenon in information technology which takes over everyday routines. A new ideal, a new promise, and at the same time used as a stratagem by political and economic systems to guide and manipulate our thinking, values, and behaviour. But nothing is so new that one could not find its precursors in earlier times. Science and mathematics has kindled many brilliant ideas. Can we describe the world by numbers, find truth and explanation in mathematical structures? This essay is devoted to early ideas by the medieval philosopher Ramón Llull, the great rationalist G.W. Leibniz, and early approaches to combinations, number theory. and information processing. Llull's thinking machine and subsequent endeavours to find methods of mechanical reasoning and inference paved the way to modern-day concepts of artificial intelligence. How did our society change with these technological innovations? After millennia of speech and the culture of writing, a fundamental disruption occurred when Thomas Alva Edison introduced his “phonograph” in 1877. In his book “Grammophon, Film, Typewriter” (Brinkmann & Bose, Berlin 1986), Friedrich Kittler (1943-2011) discusses this question from his perspective as literary scholar and media theorist, reviewing contemporary authors to let them bear witness to their experiences and impressions of the then-new media. Januar 2020, Berlin) N2 - Im Rahmen des Projektes C/sells wurden mehrere Mittelspannungsnetze modelliert, um die aktuellen Spannungsverhältnisse und Leitungsauslastungen nachbilden zu können. Zudem wurden, angelehnt an den Netzentwicklungsplan, Szenarien für den zukünftigen PV-Zubau und die potenzielle Entwicklung der Elektromobilität entworfen. Auf Basis der Ergebnisse lässt sich eine Netzanalyse hinsichtlich Spannungs- und Stromgrenzwertüberschreitungen sowie zu deren potenziellen Auftrittszeitpunkten und Auftrittsdauern durchführen. Parallel wurde anhand von Sensitivitätsanalysen untersucht, welche Wirksamkeit Flexibilitätseinsätze an den verschiedenen Netzknoten auf den Engpass haben. Dadurch kann bestimmt werden, wie effektiv die verfügbaren, in der Regel örtlich gebundenen Flexibilitätsanbieter eingesetzt werden können. Da die Sensitivitäten arbeitspunktabhängig sind, wurden verschiedene Zeitpunkte im Jahresverlauf berechnet und die jeweilige Änderungen der Wirksamkeit ausgewertet. Neben der Höhe der Leistungsabweichung wurde die Flexibilitätsanforderung auch anhand der Einsatzzeitpunkte und Einsatzdauer sowie anhand der Häufigkeit der nötigen Flexibilitätseinsätze charakterisiert. Aus den gewonnenen Erkenntnissen soll abgeleitet werden, inwiefern sich der flexible Einsatz der Verbrauchsanlagen in der Netzplanung verankern lässt. Besonders relevant ist deshalb, mit welcher Verlässlichkeit die Flexibilität abgerufen werden kann. Eine sehr hohe Verlässlichkeit lässt sich je nach Flexibilitätsanbieter möglicherweise nicht oder nur zu sehr hohen Preisen gewährleisten. Die Eignung der Flexibilitätseinsätze wird somit sowohl aus technischer als auch aus wirtschaftlicher Sicht bewertet. However, the limited background variation and simple motion rendered the dataset uninformative in learning about which techniques would be suitable for segmentation in real surgery. In 2017, at the same workshop in Quebec we introduced the robotic instrument segmentation dataset with 10 teams participating in the challenge to perform binary, articulating parts and type segmentation of da Vinci instruments. This challenge included realistic instrument motion and more complex porcine tissue as background and was widely addressed with modfications on U-Nets and other popular CNN architectures [1]. In 2018 we added to the complexity by introducing a set of anatomical objects and medical devices to the segmented classes. To avoid over-complicating the challenge, we continued with porcine data which is dramatically simpler than human tissue due to the lack of fatty tissue occluding many organs. Thus, there has been a recent boom in studying temporal graphs. Recognizing patterns in temporal graphs requires a proximity measure to compare different temporal graphs. To this end, we propose to study dynamic time warping on temporal graphs. We define the dynamic tem- poral graph warping (dtgw) distance to determine the dissimilarity of two temporal graphs. Our novel measure is flexible and can be applied in various application domains. We show that computing the dtgw-distance is a challenging (in general) NP-hard optimization problem and identify some polynomial-time solvable special cases. Moreover, we develop a quadratic programming formulation and an efficient heuristic. In experiments on real-world data, we show that the heuristic performs very well and that our dtgw-distance performs favorably in de-anonymizing networks compared to other approaches. The deliverable is an update on deliverable D27 and associated with tasks T6.5, T6.6, T6.7, T6.8. In reaction to the reviewers' comments we initiated additional trials focusing on practice cases. Those trials are specifically ladled and included in the updated overview. Traditionally only MAP with high concentrations of magnetic filler (typically between 10 and 90 wt%) have been investigated. This article deals with a hitherto neglected aspect of research, namely MAP containing lower magnetic filler concentrations (1 to 3 wt%). This article utilizes a range of spectroscopic analysis methods (Raman and FTIR) and their applicability to MAP characterization at wavelengths ranging from 2.5 to 25 mu m. Particular attention is paid to low carbonyl iron particle (CIP) concentrations in MAP for which the emergence of capillary doublets at a critical 2 wt% concentration is revealed. The increase in interfacial magnetocapacitance is seen to greatly exceed that experienced when using conventional elastomeric matrices such as polydimethylsiloxane. In addition to the increase in capacitance, a simultaneous and sharp decrease in the parallel electrical resistance over several orders of magnitude is also observed. The effects are time dependent but repeatable. However, it remains unclear what are the best ways to foster trusts between actors in a conflict environment. This study draws insights from the literature on trust and from Kahneman’s Prospect Theory to analyse the decision-making dynamics of the actors involved in a conflict and how these dynamics could affect the trust levels between those actors. To this purpose, the fourfold pattern of preferences I applied to a thought experiments where opposing actors in a conflict in the Sahel face the decision to accept or refuse a peace agreement when either one of the two actors face huge gains or catastrophic losses. The main findings is that, in those extreme situations, the actors involved tend to take unnational decisions that undermine the trust building process in the country. Therefore, it would be recommendable to boost situations where actors are negotiating in a more balanced environment. While almost constant energy consumption can be the case for a producing firm, highly fluctuating energy demand can occur as well. Together with volatile energy supply, e.g. due to renewable energy sources, this combination of fluctuating energy supply and demand can result in planning uncertainty and high energy costs. We propose different case studies in which such high deviation in the electricity consumption of a producing firm occurs due to aggregate production planning without appropriate consideration of energy consumption. Further-more, this article analyses the influence of the compa-ny size on workload and costs using an application with a high proportion of manual activities. It is demonstrat-ed that human working conditions can be improved independently from the company size without increas-ing costs. In addition, smaller companies tend to have a higher exhaustion and the workload affects the total costs more in smaller companies. Therefore, smaller companies might benefit more from an improvement in human working conditions. Ausnahmen sind einfachste Ressourcenbelegungsplanungsprobleme die sich im wesentlichen durch Sortierverfahren optimal lösen lassen. Dadurch sind Ressourcenbelegungsplanungsprobleme NP-vollständig. Nach der Literatur haben Lösungsräume von einigen NP-vollständigen Optimierungsproblemen günstige Eigenschaften, die Metaheuristiken, wie genetische Algorithmen und lokale Suche, ausnutzen, um in vertretbarer Rechenzeit gute Lösungen zu finden. Zu Ihrer Erkennung gibt es in der Literatur etablierte Analysemöglichkeiten.
