    <title language="eng">Magnetic Resonance Imaging and Computational Fluid Dynamics of High Frequency Oscillatory Ventilation (HFOV)</title>
In order to better understand the mechanisms of gas transport during High Frequency Oscillatory Ventilation (HFOV) Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) with contrast gases and numerical flow simulations based on Computational Fluid Dynamics(CFD) methods are performed. Validation of these new techniques is conducted by comparing the results obtained with simplified models of the trachea and a first lung bifurcation as well as in a cast model of the upper central airways with results achieved from conventional fluid mechanical measurement techniques like e.g. Laser Doppler Anemometry (LDA). Further it is demonstrated that MRI of experimental HFOV is feasible and that Hyperpolarized 3He allows for imaging the gas re-distribution inside the lung. Finally, numerical results of oscillatory flow in a 3rd generation model of the lung as well as the impact of endotracheal tubes on the flow regime development in a trachea model are presented.

    <title language="eng">Privacy and Data Protection: Mission Impossible?</title>
Medical confidentiality is very important because it builds the fundament of trust between doctors and patients. In modern health services data protection is essential. But there are also other important security objectives, such as integrity and authenticity of medical data and health services, as their breach can potentially lead to life threatening conditions. State of the art security mechanisms are necessary to protect medical data and services and prevent attacks known as “hacking”. They should include in particular cryptography, as you can usually rely on mathematics, more than in software security and access control mechanisms. As patients normally cannot assess the security of a service, security audits or certifications of health services should be provided to generate trust and confidence.

    <title language="eng">From Grid Middleware to Grid Applications</title>
This paper deals with the problem of application programming for grid systems that combine heterogeneous data and computational resources via the Internet. We argue that grid programming is still too complex because of the big gap between the currently used and anticipated grid middleware, (e.g., Globus or WSRF) and the application level. We suggest that this gap needs to be closed in future-generation grids and propose a novel approach to bridging the gap by using Higher-Order Components (HOCs) — recurring patterns of parallel behaviour that are provided to the user as program building blocks with pre-packaged implementation and middleware setup. The presentation is illustrated with a simple case study of computing fractal images. Our experiments demonstrate that HOCs can simplify grid application programming significantly, without serious performance loss.

    <title language="eng">Cybersecurity in Health Care</title>
Ethical questions have always been crucial in health care; the rapid dissemination of ICT makes some of those questions even more pressing and also raises new ones. One of these new questions is cybersecurity in relation to ethics in health care. In order to more closely examine this issue, this chapter introduces Beauchamp and Childress’ four principles of biomedical ethics as well as additional ethical values and technical aims of relevance for health care. Based on this, two case studies—implantable medical devices and electronic Health Card—are presented, which illustrate potential conflicts between ethical values and technical aims as well as between ethical values themselves. It becomes apparent that these conflicts cannot be eliminated in general but must be reconsidered on a case-by-case basis. An ethical debate on cybersecurity regarding the design and implementation of new (digital) technologies in health care is essential.

    <title language="eng">How to improve the reactiveness and efficiency of embedded multicore systems by use of probabilistic simulation and optimization techniques</title>
Safe and reliable multi-core technology becomes more and more important in the field of embedded systems. Today’s and future embedded systems require increasing performance while being more energy efficient. Moreover, the functional safety for these embedded systems has to be improved or developed completely new. In this chapter, we first address the challenges of embedded multi-core real-time systems. To raise the resilience of such systems we use the deadlock-free synchronization model of Block et al. (A flexible real-time locking protocol for multiprocessors. 2012 IEEE international conference on embedded and real-time computing systems and applications, vol 0, pp 47–56, 2007). The metric mean Normalized Blocking Time (mNBT) is hereby used to measure the timing effects of the blocking behavior of strongly interacting tasks. In a second step, we present a model-based approach to map the tasks of an embedded real-time system to the cores of a multi-core processor. Moreover, we derive an execution time model from runtime measurements of software functions. This information is then used to perform precise probabilistic simulations of different task-to-core mappings and evaluate them with regard to task response times, inter-task blocking overhead and load distribution. Subsequently, we integrate the probabilistic simulation within an optimization technique to systematically improve the task-to-core mapping. We conclude with a case-study, where we demonstrate the effectiveness of the presented approach by optimizing the task-to-core mapping of a practical automotive powertrain system.

    <title language="eng">Sparse Regularization of Inverse Problems by Operator-Adapted Frame Thresholding</title>
We analyze sparse frame based regularization of inverse problems by means of a diagonal frame decomposition (DFD) for the forward operator, which generalizes the SVD. The DFD allows to define a non-iterative (direct) operator-adapted frame thresholding approach which we show to provide a convergent regularization method with linear convergence rates. These results will be compared to the well-known analysis and synthesis variants of sparse ℓ1-regularization which are usually implemented thorough iterative schemes. If the frame is a basis (non-redundant case), the three versions of sparse regularization, namely synthesis and analysis variants of ℓ1-regularization as well as the DFD thresholding are equivalent. However, in the redundant case, those three approaches are pairwise different.

    <title language="eng">Parkinson’s Disease Identification Using Restricted Boltzmann Machines</title>
Currently, Parkinson’s Disease (PD) has no cure or accurate diagnosis, reaching approximately 60, 000 new cases yearly and worldwide, being more often in the elderly population. Its main symptoms can not be easily uncorrelated with other illness, being way more difficult to be identified at the early stages. As such, computer-aided tools have been recently used to assist in this task, but the challenge in the automatic identification of Parkinson’s Disease still persists. In order to cope with this problem, we propose to employ Restricted Boltzmann Machines (RBMs) to learn features in an unsupervised fashion by analyzing images from handwriting exams, which aim at assessing the writing skills of potential individuals. These are one of the main symptoms of PD-prone people, since such kind of ability ends up being severely affected. We show that RBMs can learn proper features that help supervised classifiers in the task of automatic identification of PD patients, as well as one can obtain a more compact representation of the exam for the sake of storage and computational load purposes.

    <title language="eng">A Higher-Order Component for Efficient Genome Processing on the Grid</title>
Computational grids combine computers in the Internet for distributed data processing and are an attractive platform for the data-intensive applications of bioinformatics. We present an extensible genome processing software for the grid and evaluate its performance. Our software was able to discover previously unknown circular permutations (CP) in the ProDom database containing more than 70MB of protein data. A specific feature of our software is its design as a component: the Alignment HOC, a Higher-Order Component that makes use of the latest Globus toolkit as grid middleware. Besides genome data, the Alignment HOC accepts plugin code for processing this data as its input, and contains all the required configuration to run the component on top of Globus, thus, freeing the non-grid-expert user from dealing with grid middleware. Instead of writing data distribution procedures and configuring the middleware appropriately for every new algorithm, Alignment HOC users reuse the existing component and only write application-specific plugins. To maintain plugins persistently in a reusable manner, we built a web-accessible plugin database with a comfortable administration GUI. The flexible component-based implementation makes it easy to study CPs in other databases (e.g. UniProt/Swiss-Prot) or to use an alignment algorithm different than the standard Needleman-Wunsch. For the efficient distribution of workload, we developed a library of group communication operations for HOCs.

    <title language="eng">A Grid Component with Embedded Loop Parallelization</title>
This work integrates two distinct research areas of parallel and distributed computing, (1) automatic loop parallelization, and (2) component-based Grid programming. The latter includes technologies developed within CoreGRID for simplifying Grid programming: the Grid ComponentModel (GCM) and Higher- Order Components (HOCs). Components support developing applications on the Grid without taking all the technical details of the particular platform type into account (network communication, heterogeneity, etc.). The GCMenables a hierarchical composition of programpieces and HOCs enable the reuse of component code in the development of new applications by specifying application-specific operations in a program via code parameters. When a programmer is provided, e. g., with a compute farm HOC, only the independent worker tasks must be described. But, once an application exhibits data or control dependences, the trivial farm is no longer sufficient. Here, the power of loop parallelization tools, like LooPo, comes into play: by embedding LooPo into a HOC, we show that these two technologies in combination facilitate the automatic transformation of a sequential loop nest with complex dependences (supplied by the user as a HOC parameter) into an ordered task graph, which can be processed on the Grid in parallel. This technique can significantly simplify GCM-based systems which combine multiple HOCs and other components. We use an equation system solver based on the successive overrelaxation method (SOR) as our motivating application example and for performance experiments.

    <title language="eng">Automatic Creation of Web Services for Grid Components</title>
    <abstract language="eng">While high-level software components simplify the programming of grid applications and Web services increase their interoperability, developing such components and configuring the interconnecting services is a demanding task. In this paper, we consider the combination of Higher-Order Components (HOCs) with the Fractal component model and the ProActive library.&#13;
&#13;
HOCs are parallel programming components, made accessible on the grid via Web services that use a special class loader enabling code mobility: executable code can be uploaded to a HOC, allowing one to customize the HOC. Fractal simplifies the composition of components and the ProActive library offers a generator for automatically creating Web services from components composed with Fractal, as long as all the parameters of these services have primitive types.&#13;
&#13;
Taking all the advantages of HOCs, ProActive and Fractal together, the obvious conclusion is that composing HOCs using Fractal and automatically exposing them as Web services on the grid via ProActive minimizes the required efforts for building complex grid systems. In this context, we solved the problem of exchanging code-carrying parameters in automatically generated Web services by integrating the HOC class loading mechanism into the ProActive library.

    <title language="eng">Adaptable Parallel Components for Grid Programming</title>
We suggest that parallel software components used for grid computing should be adaptable to application-specific requirements, instead of developing new components from scratch for each particular application. As an example, we take a parallel farm component which is “embarrassingly parallel”, i. e., free of dependencies, and adapt it to the wavefront processing pattern with dependencies that impact its behavior. We describe our approach in the context of Higher-Order Components (HOCs), with the Java-based system Lithium as our implementation framework. The adaptation process relies on HOCs’ mobile code parameters that are shipped over the network of the grid. We describe our implementation of the proposed component adaptation method and report first experimental results for a particular grid application — the alignment of DNA sequence pairs, a popular, time-critical problem in computational molecular biology.

    <title language="eng">Simplifying Grid Application Programming Using Web-Enabled Code Transfer Tools</title>
This paper deals with one of the fundamental properties of grid computing – transferring code between grid nodes and executing it remotely on heterogeneous hosts. Contemporary middleware relies for this purpose on Web Services, which makes application programs complicated and low-level and requires much additional expertise from programmers. We compare two mechanisms for grid application programming with regard to their handling of code transfer – the de-facto standard WS-GRAM in Globus and the higher-level approach based on HOCs (Higher-Order Components). We study the advantages and problems of each approach using a real-world application case study – the sequent alignment problem from bioinformatics. Our experiments show the trade-off between reduced development costs and software complexity when HOCs are used and the higher performance of the applications on the grid when using WS-GRAM.

    <title language="eng">Optimization techniques for skeletons on grids</title>
Skeletons are common patterns of parallelism, such as farm and pipeline, that can be abstracted and offered to the application programmer as programming primitives. We describe the use and implementation of skeletons on emerging computational grids, with the skeleton system Lithium, based on Java and RMI, as our reference programming syttem. Our main contribution is the exploration of optimization techniques for implementing skeletons on grids based on an optimized, future-based RMI mechanism, which we integrate into the macro-dataflow evaluation mechanism of Lithium. We discuss three optimizations: 1) a lookahead mechanism that allows to process multiple tasks concurrently at each grid server and thereby increases the overall degree of parallelism, 2) a lazy taskbinding technique that reduces interactions between grid servers and the task dispatcher, and 3) dynamic improvements that optimize the collecting of results and the work-load balancing. We report experimental results that demonstrate the improvements due to our optimizations on various testbeds, including a heterogeneous grid-like environment.

    <title language="eng">Camera-Projector Calibration - Methods, Influencing Factors and Evaluation Using a Robot and Structured-Light 3D Reconstruction</title>
As camera and projector hardware gets more and more affordable and software algorithms more sophisticated, the area of application for camera-projector configurations widens its scope. Unlike for sole camera calibration, only few comparative surveys for projector calibration methods exist. Therefore, in this paper, two readily available algorithms for the calibration of those arrays are studied and methods for the evaluation of the results are proposed. Additionally, statistical evaluations under consideration of different influencing factors like the hardware arrangement, the number of input images or the calibration target characteristics on the accuracy of the calibration results are performed. Ground truth comparison data is realized through a robotic system and structured light 3D scanning.

    <title language="eng">Managing Software Product Line Evolution by Filtered Editing: The SuperMod Approach</title>
This chapter introduces SuperMod, an approach and tool to support the evolution of software product lines (SPLs) by means of a filtered editing model, which is inspired by the checkout-modify-commit workflow established in version control systems. Rather than forcing the developers into editing multi-variant artifacts of an SPL, SuperMod allows them to perform modifications successively in single-variant workspaces and to integrate the changes by indicating the logical scope, i.e., the affected variants, of the change performed. The SPL itself is managed automatically in a transparent repository by the system. As a consequence, developers may re-use the same engineering tools they also used for the development of the product variants prior to the re-engineering process. SuperMod furthermore orchestrates collaborative development and provides dedicated support for (without restricting developers to) model-driven approaches to SPL engineering. We illustrate SuperMod’s capabilities by the well-known graph SPL example and discuss the practical benefits of the suggested solution to SPL evolution as well as its relation to SPL re-engineering.

    <title language="eng">Embracing virtual reality</title>
This chapter investigates the potential impacts of virtual reality (VR) technology on the design process, particularly in engineering and design fields. VR, defined as a computer-generated simulation, has already found applications in various professional domains such as engineering, training, marketing, and ergonomics. However, its potential influence on the design process remains to be explored. The aim of this investigation is to assess the impacts of VR on professionals, users, technology, and the design profession as a whole. The chapter proposes a set of general guidelines for incorporating VR in the design process and emphasizes the need for human-centered approaches to enhance the acceptability and acceptance of VR. While VR offers tangible advantages and benefits, it also presents limitations and challenges that must be addressed for it to be established as a strategic design tool. The chapter concludes by suggesting the development of a taxonomy for evaluating and utilizing VR and emphasizes the importance of considering human-centered approaches and integrating artificial intelligence tools to enhance design activities further. VR has the potential to foster divergent and convergent thinking, facilitate co-creative activities, improve prototyping and concept evaluation, and enhance immersive product presentations, thereby transforming the roles of designers and the design profession as a whole.

    <title language="eng">Advancing Negative Variability in Model-Driven Software Product Line Engineering</title>
Model-driven software product line engineering aims at increasing the productivity of development of variational software. The principle of negative variability is realized by a multi-variant domain model, from which elements not needed for specific product variants are removed. The application of negative variability is impeded by two factors: First, metamodel restrictions lead to limited expressiveness of the multi-variant domain model. Second, unintended information loss may occur during product derivation. In this paper, we present two conceptual extensions to model-driven product line engineering based on negative variability, being alternative mappings and surrogates. Alternative mappings virtually extend the multi-variant domain model. Surrogates repair unintended information loss by context-sensitive analyses. Both extensions have been implemented in FAMILE, a model-driven product line tool that is based on EMF. Alternative mappings are defined in a dedicated mapping model. Surrogate rules may be defined in a declarative domain-specific language and are taken into account during product derivation. The added value of alternative mappings and surrogates is demonstrated by a running example, a UML-based graph library.

    <title language="eng">Superoperators for Quantum Software Engineering</title>
As implementations of quantum computers grow in size and maturity, the question of how to program this new class of machines is attracting increasing attention in the software engineering domain. Yet, many questions from how to design expressible quantum languages augmented with formal semantics via implementing appropriate optimizing compilers to abstracting details of machine properties in software systems remain challenging. Performing research at this intersection of quantum computing and software engineering requires sufficient knowledge of the physical processes underlying quantum computations, and how to model these. In this chapter, we review a superoperator-based approach to quantum dynamics, as it can provide means that are sufficiently abstract, yet concrete enough to be useful in quantum software and systems engineering, and outline how it is used in several important applications in the field.

    <title language="eng">Challenges and Opportunities in Quantum Software Architecture</title>
Quantum computing is a relatively new paradigm that has raised considerable interest in physics and computer science in general but has so far received little attention in software engineering and architecture. Hybrid applications that consist of both quantum and classical components require the development of appropriate quantum software architectures. However, given that quantum software engineering (QSE) in general is a new research area, quantum software architecture–a subresearch area in QSE is also understudied. The goal of this chapter is to provide a list of research challenges and opportunities for such architectures. In addition, to make the content understandable to a broader computer science audience, we provide a brief overview of quantum computing and explain the essential technical foundations.

    <title language="deu">Externe Begleitung für KI-Projekte in KMUs</title>

    <title language="deu">KI in der Projektmanagement-Lehre</title>

    <title language="eng">Challenges for Quantum Software Engineering: An Industrial Application Scenario Perspective</title>
Quantum software is becoming a key enabler for applying quantum computing to industrial use cases. This poses challenges to quantum software engineering in providing efficient and effective means to develop such software. Eventually, this must be reliably achieved in time, on budget, and in quality, using sound and well-principled engineering approaches. Given that quantum computers are based on fundamentally different principles than classical machines, this raises the question if, how, and to what extent established techniques for systematically engineering software need to be adapted. In this chapter, we analyze three paradigmatic application scenarios for quantum software engineering from an industrial perspective. The respective use cases center around (1) optimization and quantum cloud services, (2) quantum simulation, and (3) embedded quantum computing. Our aim is to provide a concise overview of the current and future applications of quantum computing in diverse industrial settings. We derive presumed challenges for quantum software engineering and thus provide research directions for this emerging field.

    <title language="deu">Partizipative Designpraktiken für verkörperte Künstliche Intelligenz</title>
