Furthermore, we present a characterization method for polymer particles, which can predict the quality of the powder deposition via LBM processes. Design/methodology/approach - This study focuses on the application of dry particle coating processes to increase flowability and bulk density of PE-HD particles. Both has been measured and afterwards validated via powder deposition of PE-HD particles in a LBM machine. Findings - For efficient coating in a dry particle coating process, the PE-HD particles and the attached nanoparticles need to show similar surface chemistry, i.e. both need to behave either hydrophobic or hydrophilic. It is demonstrated that dry particle coating is appropriate to enhance flowability and bulk density of PE-HD particles and hence considerably improves LBM processes and the resulting product quality. Originality/value - At present, in LBM processes mainly polyamide (PA), 12 particles are used, which are so far quite expensive in comparison to, for example, PE-HD particles. This work provides a unique and versatile method for nanoparticulate surface modification which may be applied to a wide variety of materials. Thus, prototypes or parts in small series production can be generated within short times. Up to now, no multi-material parts have been built by LBM, which is a major limitation of the technology. To realize multi-material parts, new mechanisms for depositing different polymer powders as well as a new irradiation strategy are needed, by which polymers with different melting temperatures can be warmed to their specific preheating temperatures and be molten simultaneously. This is achieved by simultaneous laser beam melting (SLBM). In the process, two different materials are deposited next to each other and preheated a few degrees below their melting temperatures by infrared emitters and laser radiation (λ = 10.60 µm), before in the last step the two preheated powders are molten simultaneously by an additional laser (λ = 1.94 µm). So far, multi-material tensile bars have been realized and analyzed regarding their boundary zone between both materials. The experiments showed that the temperature gradients in the boundary zone and along the building direction seem to be of great importance for the process stability and the resulting part properties. Therefore, a detailed analysis of the occurring temperature gradients during the process is needed to identify adequate process adjustments regarding the temperature controlling. Absorber-free laser transmission welding enables the precise joining of identical polymers without additives or adhesives and is well-suited to meet the demands of the aforementioned industries. In the conventional process, laser sources in the wavelength range of 1 μm are usually used. Therefore, most of the laser radiation is transmitted through the upper joining partner and absorbed only in the lower joining partner. As a result, the possibilities to influence the temperature field especially in the upper joining partner are limited. To overcome these limitations, an additional thulium fiber-laser with a wavelength of 1.94 μm is used in this study and coaxially aligned with a diode laser. The use of an additional thulium fiber-laser leads to a significant absorption in the upper joining partner. Third space endoscopic procedures pose the risk of intraprocedural bleeding. Therefore, we aimed to develop an AI algorithm for intraprocedural blood vessel detection. Patients and Methods: Using a test dataset with 101 standardized video clips containing 200 predefined submucosal blood vessels, 19 endoscopists were evaluated for the vessel detection rate (VDR) and time (VDT) with and without support of an AI algorithm. Test subjects were grouped according to experience in ESD. Results: With AI support, endoscopists VDR increased from 56.4\% [CI 54.1-58.6] to 72.4\% [CI 70.3-74.4]. Endoscopists' VDT dropped from 6.7sec [CI 6.2-7.1] to 5.2sec [CI 4.8-5.7]. False positive (FP) readings appeared in 4.5\% of frames and were marked significantly shorter than true positives (6.0sec [CI 5.28-6.70] vs. 0.7sec [CI 0.55-0.87]). Conclusions: AI improved the vessel detection rate and time of endoscopists during third space endoscopy. While these data need to be corroborated by clinical trials, AI may prove to be an invaluable tool for the improvement of endoscopic interventions.}, language = {en} } @misc{ScheppachMendelMuzalyovaetal., author = {Scheppach, Markus W. and Mendel, Robert and Muzalyova, Anna and Rauber, David and Probst, Andreas and Nagl, Sandra and R{\"o}mmele, Christoph and Yip, Hon Chi and Lau, Louis Ho Shing and G{\"o}lder, Stefan Karl and Schmidt, Arthur and Kouladouros, Konstantinos and Abdelhafez, Mohamed and Walter, B. and Meinikheim, Michael and Chiu, Philip Wai Yan and Palm, Christoph and Messmann, Helmut and Ebigbo, Alanna}, title = {K{\"u}nstliche Intelligenz erh{\"o}ht die Gef{\"a}ßerkennung von Endoskopikern bei third space Endoskopie}, series = {Zeitschrift f{\"u}r Gastroenterologie}, volume = {62}, journal = {Zeitschrift f{\"u}r Gastroenterologie}, number = {09}, publisher = {Georg Thieme Verlag KG}, doi = {10.1055/s-0044-1790087}, pages = {e830}, abstract = {Einleitung: K{\"u}nstliche Intelligenz (KI)-Algorithmen unterst{\"u}tzen Endoskopiker bei der Erkennung und Charakterisierung von Kolonpolypen in der klinischen Praxis und f{\"u}hren zu einer Erh{\"o}hung der Adenomdetektionsrate. Auch bei therapeutischen Maßnahmen wie der endoskopischen Submukosadissektion (ESD) k{\"o}nne relevante anatomische Strukturen durch KI mit hoher Genauigkeit erkannt und im endoskopischen Bild in Echtzeit markiert werden. Der Effekt einer solchen Applikation auf die Gef{\"a}ßdetektion von Endoskopikern ist bislang nicht erforscht. Ziele: In dieser Studie wurde der Effekt eines KI-Algorithmus zur Echtzeit-Gef{\"a}ßmarkierung bei ESD auf die Gef{\"a}ßdetektionsrate von Endoskopikern untersucht. Methodik: 59 third space Endoskopievideos wurde aus der Datenbank des Universit{\"a}tsklinikums Augsburg extrahiert. Auf 5470 Einzelbildern dieser Untersuchungen wurde submukosale Blutgef{\"a}ße annotiert. Zusammen mit weiteren 179681 unmarkierten Bildern wurde ein DeepLabV3+ neuronales Netzwerk mit einer semi-supervised learning Methode darin trainiert, submukosale Blutgef{\"a}ße auf dem endoskopischen Bild zu erkennen und in Echtzeit einzuzeichnen. Anhand eines Videotests mit 101 Videoclips und 200 vordefinierten Blutgef{\"a}ßen wurden 19 Endoskopiker mit und ohne KI Unterst{\"u}tzung getestet. Ergebnis: Der Algorithmus erkannte in dem Videotest 93.5\% der Gef{\"a}ße in einer Detektionszeit von im Median 0,3 Sekunden. Die Gef{\"a}ßdetektionsrate von Endoskopikern erh{\"o}hte sich durch KI Unterst{\"u}tzung von 56,4\% auf 72,4\% (p<0.001). Die Gef{\"a}ßdetektionszeit reduzierte sich durch KI-Unterst{\"u}tzung von 6,7 auf 5.2 Sekunden (p<0.001). Der Algorithmus zeigte eine Rate an falsch positiven Detektionen in 4.5\% der Einzelbilder. Falsch positiv erkannte Strukturen wurde k{\"u}rzer detektiert, als richtig positive (0.7 und 6.0 Sekunden, p<0.001). Schlussfolgerung: KI Unterst{\"u}tzung f{\"u}hrte zu einer erh{\"o}hten Gef{\"a}ßdetektionsrate und schnelleren Gef{\"a}ßdetektionszeit von Endoskopikern. Methods A resin-based tooth (tooth 36) was digitized, manufactured ( ), individually prepared and re-digitized. Five design groups were established using conventional software proposals, technician designs, two AI-based software solutions, and natural tooth-based reference designs. All systems employed consistent parameters. Crown designs were digitally assessed using quantitative morphological and occlusal metrics in reference to the original tooth. Crowns were milled, marginal fit was measured via digital microscopy, and fracture resistance was determined after thermal cycling and mechanical loading. Results Morphological metrics revealed statistically significant deviations across groups, with the technician design achieving the best performance. Occlusal metrics showed high deviations in the positional accuracy of the contact points across all groups. Technician and AI-based designs exhibited comparable functional results. None of the design groups were able to achieve contact with all relevant antagonist teeth, due to high deviations in the mesiolingual cusp. Conventional software designs exhibited the lowest fracture forces. Significant improvements were achieved through technician intervention. Vertical marginal discrepancies remained comparable across groups. Significance Improved functional and morphological design combined with high fracture resistance can reduce the need for clinical adjustments, minimize wear, and enhance crown longevity. Digital design software significantly influences crown morphology, occlusal characteristics and fracture forces. Vertical marginal discrepancies remain similar. AI-driven approaches demonstrate comparability with technician designs in terms of fracture forces, functional performance, and marginal fit.}, language = {en} }
