In this context, the harmonization of the available and required capacity is a central task, especially with increasing fluctuations in customer demand. In classical approaches , this is considered only by the use of additional capacities and there are only a few approaches that combine aspects of personnel planning with production planning. Therefore, this article presents a linear optimization model for master production scheduling that includes aspects of personnel requirements planning. It is used to investigate different strategies for the use of overtime and temporary workers in order to achieve different levels of volume flexibility. With regard to the monetary and social impacts, the results indicate that overtime has a stronger influence to achieve volume flexibility than the use of temporary workers. Associated with this, the consideration of energy-related emissions is becoming an additional point of interest for decisionmakers in both, economic and ecological terms. Based on an extensive systematic literature review, the study at hand presents a multicriterial scheduling problem that addresses tardiness, energy consumption and energy-related emissions in production scheduling. A model is introduced that takes into account job release dates, multiple machine states, a power demand threshold as well as time-varying emission conversion factors. Multiple case studies are analysed and the effects of different technological implementations as energy onsite generation and energy storage systems are evaluated. Furthermore, several price mechanisms regarding energy procurement and emission trading are discussed. Moreover, by coupling the optimization model to a discrete event simulation model, we are able to compare the model results to real case scenarios. First computational experiments have demonstrated that the model and its extensions can effectively reduce the environmental impact associated with production while simultaneously considering corresponding economic objectives. Both types of Mobile Robots are usually deployed with a Fleet Management software to manage (transport) orders and vehicles together with other superordinate control systems. The planning tasks in the superordinate control system used by both AGVs and AMRs can be divided into Material Flow Management, Job Management, Vehicle Dispatching and Job Processing. Requests for supply and removal of material is issued by the stations and has to be combined to transport jobs. Alternatively, more complex system often user external Material Flow Controllers (e.g. MES). Jobs are collected in a queue and their execution order is determined. Vehicles which can execute the next job have to be identified and the best one is selected. Jobs are split into smaller tasks which are sent to the Mobile Robot and executed. For AGVs navigation functions are mostly integrated into the Fleet Manager as part of the Job Processing, while AMRs perform lower-level navigation functions directly on the vehicle and use the superordinate control system for implementing restrictions and traffic control functions. A need for further research and development was identified especially for decision-making algorithms within the Fleet Management. Even if only specific companies were originally affected, shortages and delays rippled along the supply network. The established approach to deal with disruptions is to utilize safety stock and capacity to compensate for fluctuations in uncertain quantities like customer demand. This approach is tried and tested for small fluctuations. To address larger disruptions, like the above given, very high safety stock and capacity would be needed, which would lead to unnecessarily high costs. Resilience has often been viewed as an expensive capability that drives costs. Recent studies however advocate for the development of lean resilience concepts, creating new capabilities, which enable resilience and can deal with large fluctuations, reimagining resilience from the perspectives of efficiency and value creation. This contribution identifies gaps in current research and establishes structural deficits of approaches discussed in the literature regarding supply chains. Firstly, the need for rigorous, quantitative definitions of resilience and relevant disruptions is justified. Then, a stochastic model for aggregate production planning that includes capabilities to compensate for such large fluctuations along several dimensions is proposed. Lastly, this model is then applied to a case study pertaining to a realistic supply chain under the risk of large scale disruptions and the results of this approach are evaluated.}, language = {en} } @misc{Herrmann, author = {Herrmann, Frank}, title = {Scheduling of a real world filter production with lot-size 1}, series = {SIMUL 2020: The Twelfth International Conference on Advances in System Simulation, 18.-22.10.2020 in Porto, Portugal}, journal = {SIMUL 2020: The Twelfth International Conference on Advances in System Simulation, 18.-22.10.2020 in Porto, Portugal}, editor = {Herrmann, Frank and Parra, Lorena and Popescu, Manuela}, publisher = {IARIA XPS Press}, address = {Wilmington, DE, USA}, isbn = {978-1-61208-831-0}, pages = {1 -- 6}, abstract = {In industrial practice, a travelling crane on the ceiling of a factory hall transports products in process from one station to the next one in a production line. Such restrictions reduce the set of feasible schedules even more than the no-buffer restrictions discussed in the literature in the case of limited storage. Since this scheduling problem is integrated in the usual hierarchical planning, the tardiness is minimised. Due to the high number of jobs as well as the goal of a simple algorithm, scheduling is always done by priority rules at the company site. The standard approach of using the net processing time causes poor results. A simulation of the processing time is suggested. We integrate the model into a hierarchical production planning and control system that is common in industrial practice. To reduce the problem of the disaggregation of the master production schedule, we use a relatively low aggregation level (compared to other work on stochastic programming for production planning). Consequently, we must consider many more scenarios to model demand uncertainty. Additionally, we modify standard modelling approaches for stochastic programming because they lead to the occurrence of many infeasible problems due to rolling planning horizons and interdependencies between master production scheduling and successive planning levels. To evaluate the performance of the proposed models, we generate a customer order arrival process, execute production planning in a rolling horizon environment and simulate the realisation of the planning results. In our experiments, the tardiness of customer orders can be nearly eliminated by the use of the proposed stochastic programming model at the cost of increasing inventory levels and using additional capacity.}, subject = {Hierarchische Produktionsplanung}, language = {en} } @article{Herrmann, author = {Herrmann, Frank}, title = {Automatisierte Durchf{\"u}hrung von Bestandsmanagement-Projekten}, series = {wt Werkstattstechnik online}, journal = {wt Werkstattstechnik online}, number = {10}, address = {Berlin}, pages = {819 -- 824}, abstract = {Ein effizientes und effektives Bestandsmanagement ist wichtig, um die Auswirkungen etwa durch fehlende Produkte gering zu halten und die Lagerhaltungskosten zu minimieren. A typical task in the implementation phase of ERP systems consists in the choice of an appropriate lot sizing procedure and the setup of its parameters. The existing procedures do not deliver the best results for each business process. So, a business specific setup is required. Unfortunately, there is no knowledge of good parameter settings for typical business processes. Therefore, different parameter settings have to be tested out on real business processes over long periods (e. g. over several years). Of course, such an approach fails due to time restrictions. In addition, the literature argues that an automated software process — contrary to a physical process — is often never called in question or further optimized. An alternative offers a simulation of business processes which is controlled by an ERP system. In the laboratory of information science and production logistics (LIP) at the University of Applied Sciences, Regensburg, a pilot implementation of a system for simulating the control of production processes by the SAP R/3-System (SIM-R/3) was developed. Due to the hierarchical planning approach, which is widely used in industrial practice and implemented in commercial enterprise resource planning as well as production planning and controlsystems, a subsequent scheduling is necessary to gain executable productionplans. Products need to be transported (from one station to the next station) by a crane and the way of working of this crane excludes the intermediate storage (of a work piece). In addition, the way of working restricts the set of feasible schedules even more than the no-buffer restriction discussed in the literature in the case of limited storage. Since this scheduling problem is integrated in the usual hierarchical planning, the tardiness is minimised. A linear optimisation model is presented to provide a formal description of this NP-hard problem. It is also used to explain the performance of priority rule based heuristic solutions on small test problems. In detail, priority rules as well as a priority rule based branch and bound procedure are analysed; priority rules are regarded, because a priority rule is still the standard procedure for on-line scheduling in industrial practise. Out of successful priority rules in the literature the best one is identified by an extensive simulative investigation. An improved look-ahead is realised by a restricted search over all possible schedules.}, subject = {Fließfertigung}, language = {en} } @inproceedings{VitzthumHerrmann, author = {Vitzthum, Thorsten and Herrmann, Frank}, title = {Evidence of the Relevance of Master Production Scheduling for Hierarchical Production Planning.}, series = {Proceedings, 31st European Conference on Modelling and Simulation (ECMS) 2017, 23rd - May 26th, Budapest, Hungary}, booktitle = {Proceedings, 31st European Conference on Modelling and Simulation (ECMS) 2017, 23rd - May 26th, Budapest, Hungary}, isbn = {978-0-9932440-4-9}, doi = {10.7148/2017-0475}, abstract = {This paper deals with the significance of master production scheduling for hierarchical production planning. Production planning in a typical manufacturing organization is a sequence of complex decisions which depends on a number of factors, such as number of products, complexity of products, number of production sites, and number of work centres in each production site. The main idea in hierarchical production planning is to break down larger problems into smaller, more manageable sub problems. Starting with aggregate production planning, the benefits of using master production scheduling for material requirements planning will be conveyed. The main benefit of master production scheduling is more detailed planning. The production groups are thereby disaggregated into final products and the production site disaggregated into work centres. In order to plan capacities, resource profiles are used. By working with resource profiles production lead time data are taken into account to provide time-phased projections of the capacity requirements for each work centre (Vollmann et al. 2005). The case study will show that more accurate planning and consideration of production lead time through master production scheduling results in a demand program that can be realized without shortages or delays.}, subject = {Hierarchische Produktionsplanung}, language = {en} } @inproceedings{AmannHerrmannLutzetal., author = {Amann, Matthias and Herrmann, Frank and Lutz, Christian and Meier, Markus}, title = {Grad der Zerst{\"o}rung f{\"u}r eine lokale Suche bei einer taktgetriebenen Fließfertigung}, series = {Prozesse, Technologien, Anwendungen, Systeme und Management. To avoid of getting stucked in a local optimum, the achieved solution is destroyed. Usually, this is done randomly. Here, two problem specific procedures are suggested.
