First I will describe the beginning of this war, which was given public awareness by Alan Sokal in 1996 publishing his text Transgressing the Boundaries. Toward a transformative Hermeneutics of Quantum Gravity in the postmodernist journal Social Text. In 1997 Alan Sokal, together with Jean Bricmont, again attacked postmodernist and poststructuralist scholars with the book Impostures Intellectuelles. I will describe the aims of their book and in addition portray briefly the postmodernist relativistic epistemology. Since Sokal and Bricmont identify Critical Rationalism as a source of that relativism, I then will show possible reasons for this reproach. I will reject their critique, since it is based on false estimations about Critical Rationalism but I also will show that there are some good reasons to criticize Critical Rationalism. As a kind of conclusion I will argue that in the future it is necessary that Critical Rationalists will dispute more offensively against postmodernist thinking to prevent a deepening of the gap between the humanities and science and because science is an important means to the improvement of our society.}, language = {en} } @article{Weber, author = {Weber, Karsten}, title = {Mobile Access to Information: Some Questions}, series = {CSI Communications, Special Issue on "Information Ethics"}, journal = {CSI Communications, Special Issue on "Information Ethics"}, number = {6}, pages = {21 -- 22}, language = {en} } @article{WeberCapurro, author = {Weber, Karsten and Capurro, Rafael}, title = {Guest Editorial}, series = {CSI Communications, Special Issue on "Information Ethics"}, journal = {CSI Communications, Special Issue on "Information Ethics"}, number = {6}, pages = {3 -- 4}, language = {en} } @incollection{WeberAleksandrowicz, author = {Weber, Karsten and Aleksandrowicz, Dariusz}, title = {Kulturwissenschaften: auf dem Weg zu einer erneuten Spaltung der Wissenschaft?}, series = {Kulturwissenschaften im Blickfeld der Standortbestimmung, Legitimierung und Selbstkritik}, booktitle = {Kulturwissenschaften im Blickfeld der Standortbestimmung, Legitimierung und Selbstkritik}, editor = {Aleksandrowicz, Dariusz and Weber, Karsten}, publisher = {Frank \& Timme}, address = {Berlin}, pages = {45 -- 88}, language = {de} } @article{Weber, author = {Weber, Karsten}, title = {Privatsph{\"a}re und Datenschutz in Europa}, series = {FIfF Kommunikation}, volume = {24}, journal = {FIfF Kommunikation}, number = {2}, pages = {26 -- 31}, abstract = {Die Nutzungspotentiale der Informations- und Kommunikationstechnologie stellen die Frage nach der Wahrung von Privatsph{\"a}re und Datenschutz. Since one will find a branch of historical research which utilizes the analysis of quantitative data and methods of social sciences or economics, respectively, it is quite obvious to use computer simulations in history. Therefore, in the following text, motivations, aims, constraints, and methodological questions of the application of computer simulations in historical research are discussed on the basis of several examples of simulation of historical processes.
