The specimens are geometrically designed to resemble actual subcomponents of forming and cutting dies for sheet metal manufacturing. These subcomponents have failed in the past.Experiments are carried out using a fictive load-time function, which is a modification of an actually measured load curve and has variable mean and amplitude values. This first test series serves as a general validation of a subsequent fatigue analysis. A second test series is carried out with constant mean and amplitude values with a load ratio 𝑅≈0. Here, the load frequencies in the individual test runs are varied between f = 5 Hz and f = 45 Hz in order to investigate the influence of the frequency. Both series are performed on a servo-hydraulic testing machine.The experimental data is then statistically evaluated. The values for the scatter correlate with data from the literature. The data from the test series with the fictive load-time function can thus be used for subsequent validation of a fatigue calculation, which will be addressed in a future publication. Most significant are the findings from the second series of experiments with varied load frequencies, as a significant frequency influence could be detected. During each press cycle, those large masses need to be lifted, raising thereby the structural dynamic load on the deep drawing tool and on the press. Therefore a detailed knowledge about the blankholder's lift-off event is essential for an accurate and robust design of forming tools. In this paper, a dynamic finite element method (FEM) simulation of a blankholder's lift-off in a selected automotive deep drawing tool is presented enabling identification of regions of critical stresses. The FEM model is built within the Abaqus/CAE environment and solved with Abaqus/Standard. Each dynamic analysis is preceded by a static analysis where the gravity load is applied and the lifting bolts are pre-stressed. A special emphasis is put on modeling the elastomer dampers, which are installed between lifting bolts and the blankholder to avoid hard impacts during the lift-off event. Those dampers are modelled using a hyperelastic material with hysteresis. In addition, an experimental validation of a blankholder's vibration under operating loading was carried out. Computing frequency response functions over a large frequency range is a concern in such applications. A method which solves the Helmholtz equation for multiple frequencies in one step is the matrix-Pad{\´e}-via-Lanczos connection for unsymmetric systems, as presented by Wagner et al. [1]. The present work is based on Ref. [1] and presents a method for efficiently computing frequency responses over a frequency range for coupled structural-acoustic problems, where the structure and the acoustic near field are discretized with finite elements and an analytical Dirichlet-to-Neumann map approximates the far field. The method is based on a Krylov-subspace projection technique which derives a matrix-valued Pad{\´e} approximation for a restricted area in the near field and the pressure field on a spherical boundary. On the spherical boundary, where the finite domain is truncated, the non-local modified Dirichlet-to-Neumann operator is applied as a low-rank update matrix. The present contribution extends this method and incorporates new techniques for a more stable model reduction through the Lanczos algorithm and a novel weighted adaptive windowing technique. Further, structural damping is incorporated, for computing the acoustic radiation of a harmonically excited plate. For the microrods (microlines) a voltage of 1100 V (2000 V) was measured for a field emission current of about 0.5 μA with an onset field of about 12 MV/m (24 MV/m). The I-V characterization of the p-type sample showed a pronounced saturation for voltages higher than 500 V and a maximum emission current of 39 nA. The metallized sample revealed a FN-like emission up to several μA. The metallized and the p-type sample operating below the saturation region showed high current fluctuations of ±16\%. Whereas, the metallized sample with current regulation and the p-type sample in the saturation yielded a current stability of ±0.4\% and ±0.3\%, respectively. Investigations in the frequency domain revealed the for field emission typical 1/f-noise. By operating in the saturation region (p-type sample) or using an emission current regulation (metallized sample) the noise level was reduced by at least 20 dB. Finally, the p-type sample was illuminated by a light emitting diode to increase and modulate the emission current in the saturation region. The emission current was increased by a factor of 3.7 to 145 nA. This floating device consumes 6.6216 Wh per day when used as a wireless sensor node for the collection and transmission of environmental data. The sensor node can operate on a water surface for at least 9.6 days when it is not exposed to sunlight. During a sunny day, the floating device can harvest 8.375 Wh from solar panels and 0.425 Wh from thermoelectric generation. The draping simulation of the fabric layers is carried out with LS-DYNA, while the injection simulation of the matrix material is performed in full 3D with OpenFOAM. A key question in this research project is how local porosities can be derived from the structural computation in the draping step. The purpose of the presented subproject is to develop a graphical user interface (GUI) to enable the simulation of the entire RTM process of long-fiber-reinforced components including the transfer of results between the draping and injection phases. The complete simulation task is relatively complex and involves several software packages, meaning a high effort for the user to get familiarized with. To circumvent this, the GUI aims at requiring from the user only the minimum necessary input data, creating and running the simulation and mapping tasks in the background, and showing graphically all demanded intermediate and final results. For the draping step several current fabric materials such as *MAT_034, *MAT_234, *MAT_235, *MAT_249 are available. Several modelling techniques for the composite setup are also conceivable, including a workflow similar to metal forming applications. In the injection step the fabric is modelled as a porous medium and different transport models and liquid resin types are at hand. For the data transfer between the draping and injection models, i.e. the mapping of data between shell and volume meshes within the developed GUI, first the OpenFOAM volume mesh is converted to LS-DYNA format and the necessary passing parameters are extracted from the output files, then the mapping tool DYNAmap [3] from DYNAmore GmbH is invoked, and finally the OpenFOAM command files are created. After the injection simulation is started and successfully terminated, information, such as the distribution of air inclusions or the shear stress distribution to analyze the reorientation of component fibers, is available and can be transferred from the 3D fluid mesh to an LS-DYNA shell mesh for further computations, for instance a crash simulation. The Third Challenge (SFC3) required participants to predict fracture in an additively manufactured (AM) 316L stainless steel bar containing through holes and internal cavities that could not have been conventionally machined. The volunteer participants were provided extensive data including tension and notched tensions tests of 316L specimens built on the same build-plate as the Challenge geometry, micro-CT scans of the Challenge specimens and geometric measurements of the feature based on the scans, electron backscatter diffraction (EBSD) information on grain texture, and post-test fractography of the calibration specimens. Surprisingly, the global behavior of the SFC3 geometry specimens had modest variability despite being made of AM metal, with all of the SFC3 geometry specimens failing under the same failure mode. This is attributed to the large stress concentrations from the holes overwhelming the stochastic local influence of the AM voids and surface roughness. The teams were asked to predict a number of quantities of interest in the response based on global and local measures that were compared to experimental data, based partly on Digital Image Correlation (DIC) measurements of surface displacements and strains, including predictions of variability in the resulting fracture response, as the basis for assessment of the predictive capabilities of the modeling and simulation strategies. Twenty-one teams submitted predictions obtained from a variety of methods: the finite element method (FEM) or the mesh-free, peridynamic method; solvers with explicit time integration, implicit time integration, or quasi-statics; fracture methods including element deletion, peridynamics with bond damage, XFEM, damage (stiffness degradation), and adaptive remeshing. These predictions utilized many different material models: plasticity models including J2 plasticity or Hill yield with isotropic hardening, mixed Swift-Voce hardening, kinematic hardening, or custom hardening curves; fracture criteria including GTN model, Hosford-Coulomb, triaxiality-dependent strain, critical fracture energy, damage-based model, critical void volume fraction, and Johnson-Cook model; and damage evolution models including damage accumulation and evolution, crack band model, fracture energy, displacement value threshold, incremental stress triaxiality, Cocks-Ashby void growth, and void nucleation, growth, and coalescence. Teams used various combinations of calibration data from tensile specimens, the notched tensile specimens, and literature data. A detailed comparison of results based of these different methods is presented in this paper to suggest a set of best practices for modeling ductile fracture in situations like the SFC3 AM-material problem. All blind predictions identified the nominal crack path and initiation location correctly. The SFC3 participants generally fared better in their global predictions of deformation and failure than the participants in the previous Challenges, suggesting the relative maturity of the models used and adoption of best practices from previous Challenges. A modification of models to each subject is complex and the effects on lumbar loading are difficult to assess. The objective of this thesis is to create a validated musculoskeletal model of the human body, which facilitates a subject-specific modification of the geometry of the lumbar spine. Furthermore, important parameters are identified in sensitivity studies and a case study regarding multifidus muscle atrophy after a disc herniation is conducted. Therefore, a generic model is heavily modified and a semi-automatic process is implemented. This procedure remodels the geometry of the lumbar spine to a subject-specific one on basis of segmented medical images. The resulting five models are validated with regard to the lumbar loading at the L4/L5 level. The influence of lumbar ligament stiffness is determined by changing the stiffness values of all lumbar ligaments in eleven steps during a flexion motion. Sensitivities of lumbar loading to an altered geometry of the lumbar spine are identified by varying ten lumbar parameters in simulations with each model in four postures. The case study includes an analysis of the loading of the multifidus muscle and of the lumbar discs throughout various stages of disc herniation. This time each model performs four motions with two different motion rhythms. The results indicate that lumbar motion and loading is dependent on lumbar ligament stiffness. Furthermore, subject-specific modelling of the lumbar spine should include at least the vertebral height, disc height and lumbar lordosis. The results of the case study suggest that an overloading of the multifidus muscle could follow disc herniation.
