The system is based on the implementation of low-cost components, i.e. a mass-produced blue diode laser and a standard MEMS microphone which is commonly built into smartphones, for example. An optimized cell design was realized by means of 3D printing. The linearity of the photoacoustic signal dependency on the analyte concentration was verified from 200 ppbV to 100 ppmV NO2. The detection limit (1σ) was determined to 33 pptV and the normalized noise equivalent absorption coefficient was calculated to 7.0 ∙ 10-10 W cm-1 Hz-1/2. The dynamic range of the system was verified to be linear over three magnitudes of order and the sensitivity was calculated to 814 μV/ppmV. The system was characterized in view of optimal operating parameters, i.e. lock-in time constant τLIA and total mass flow rate, optical performance and signal stability. The mass flow dependend response time of the system was specified to 19 s and an idealized step response to a quasi-Heaviside step function was quantified as a function of τLIA. The quality factor of acoustic resonance was determined to 21.9 and an empirical expression regarding acoustic node shifting is provided. Self-employed coding encourages learners to acquire learning content and fosters the theory-practice transfer. Thereby, the earners face various difficulties and obstacles. The key question in this respect is: What are the costs of such a proposal? We argue that the welfare costs of bypassing the zero lower bound can be dealt with analytically and empirically by assuming negative interest rates on cash holdings. Adopting a money-in-the-utility-function (MIU) model, we measure the welfare loss in terms of theamount needed to compensate consumers (compensated variation), and as excess burden (deadweight loss) imposed on the economy. Firstly, we gauge the welfare effects of abolishing cash, both, for the Euro area and for Germany, and we perform several robustness checks. Secondly, we broaden the analysis by taking into account the liquidity services of assets included in the monetary aggregates M1 and M3, and we contrast the results for the year 2015 with those for the pre-crisis period 2005. Our findings suggest that the welfare losses of negative interest rates incurred by consumers and society are large, notably if implemented in a low interest rate environment. Imposing a negative interest rate of 3 percent on cash holdings and reducing the interest on all assets included in M3 creates a deadweight loss of € 62bn for euro area and of €18bn for Germany. The annual compensation required by consumers in the euro area as well as in Germany is equivalent to 2.2 percent of GDP or about €700 per capita. Thus, stepping into deep negative interest rates turns out to be a very costly economic experiment, leaving aside the potential risks and negative side effects of protracted and intensified unconventional monetary policy.}, language = {de} } @book{DollRosenthalVolkenandetal., author = {Doll, Jens and Rosenthal, Beatrice and Volkenand, Jonas and Hamella, Sandra}, title = {Nowcasting des deutschen BIP}, organization = {Ostbayerische Technische Hochschule Regensburg / Fakult{\"a}t Betriebswirtschaft}, isbn = {978-3-96256-001-0}, doi = {10.35096/othr/pub-794}, url = {http://nbn-resolving.de/urn:nbn:de:bvb:898-opus4-7947}, publisher = {Ostbayerische Technische Hochschule Regensburg}, pages = {26}, abstract = {Obgleich es zahlreiche Institutionen gibt, die das deutsche Bruttoinlandsprodukt vorhersagen, mangelt es aktuell an sogenannten „Nowcasting"-Modellen, deren Prognoseg{\"u}te mit jedem neu verf{\"u}gbaren, das deutsche Bruttoinlandsprodukt beeinflussenden Datenpunkt verbessert wird. Moreover, the PKIM concept is relating to the so-called Information Literacy (IL), which is a concept of information skills and competences of individuals. According to the literature, in practice the person who manages knowledge has to be information literate. Some of the empirical studies results in the PKIM scope, started in Poland (Świgoń, 2012) and recently conducted in Germany, are presented in this article. The aim of the PKIM empirical studies was to get to know the individuals' opinions about management of knowledge and information in the context of learning and studying. This part of the studies in Germany asked the following research questions (analogical to studies in Poland): 1. What are the main definitions, dimensions and manifestations of management of knowledge and information through the eyes of individuals (students)?; 2. What is the difference, if any, between knowledge management and information management in the opinion of students?; 3. What is the role of knowledge and information management in studying and other spheres of life?; 4.Which factors influence management of knowledge and information in students' opinion? The qualitative method was used with an unstructured questionnaire. Respondents were asked to share their own opinions according to the abovementioned open questions in a written form. Questionnaires were distributed during classes at the Brandenburg University of Technology, Cottbus (BTU) in January 2013. Finally 62 opinions were analysed. In the light of these empirical studies results, as well as the literature review Świgoń, 2012), three concepts: PIM, PKM and IL are compatible and merged with each other. Individuals perceive knowledge and information as well as knowledge management (KM) and information management (IM) as integrated areas of interests. Although they do see differences between them (knowledge vs. information, KM vs. IM), the issue of interconnections and relations seem more important. KIM is the process of following steps: gathering, selecting, organising, disseminating and using. In the context of personal knowledge and information, this process involves personal needs, objectives and benefits. Individuals understand that this process, or set of activities is strongly connected with their and skills. These are not only the so-called information skills, but knowledge skills as well, because they tion of new information and knowledge. Sometimes KIM is perceived as a way of coping with information ovabilities involve creative thinking, reflection and creaerload. Thiscompetence is not easy and depends on personal abilities, especially in selecting of information. Moreover, it depends on appropriate education and training, sometimes on other people, colleagues and experts, and sometimes on technology. Alternatively, inertial measurement units can be utilized to obtain human kinematics, while ground reaction forces are computed from full body dynamics. This setup represents a system independent from the spatial confinement of a gait laboratory. The aim of this study is the comparison of the two methods by the investigation of lower limb kinematics and the resulting joint reaction forces within the ankle-, knee- and hip joints. For this purpose, human motion during gait was captured simultaneously by both measurement techniques. 13 trials from 8 different test subjects were evaluated in total. IMU data was processed with a quaternion based Kalman Filter. The data sets were implemented into a musculoskeletal simulation program in order to drive a virtual human body model. Each sensor was aligned to the gravitational and magnetic field vectors of the earth. The angles of flexions, extensions and rotations were analyzed to determine kinematic differences. Joint reaction forces defined kinetic dissimilarities. The overall kinematic differences of both models yielded root mean square errors of 7.62°, 6.02°, 4.95°, 2.79°, 2.38° and 3.56° for ankle flexion, subtalar eversion, knee flexion, hip external rotation, hip abduction and hip flexion, respectively. The proximo-distal differences in force peaks between the models yielded overall for the ankle, 57.33 \%Bodyweight(BW) ± 46.86 \%BW (16.66 \%(Maximum peak to peak) ± 13.62 \%) for the knee 37.09 \%BW ± 29.33 \%BW (17.65 \% ± 15.44 \%) and 32.03 \%BW ± 24.33 \%BW (15.6 \% ± 12.54 \%) for the hip. The aim of this study is to analyze, whether T2 shows biomechanical advantages with respect to tissue and implant stresses due to the enlarged bone-implant interface. Forces acting on the pelvis were analyzed using motion capture data of a gait cycle obtained by the utilization of a musculoskeletal simulation program. A three dimensional finite element (FE) model of the pelvis with grayscale-based material properties was generated. The muscle and joint reaction forces at toe-off were applied to the FE model and instable pelvis fractures were implemented. The osteosynthesis systems were positioned within the model in order to enable the comparison between the two different surgical techniques. Stresses and displacements were analyzed for bone tissue, fracture zone and implant. T2 lead to approx. 30\% larger displacements in the fracture zone. Von-Mises stresses were larger for T2 in the implant (80 MPa vs. 227 MPa), whereas T1 leads to larger stresses in the bone tissue (200 MPa vs. 140 MPa). Both implantation techniques showed a good biomechanical behavior. Differences could be found with respect to tissue strains and deformations in the fracture zone. If bone quality or fracture healing are of concern, T2 or T1 should be used, respectively. However, both techniques seem to be applicable for cases with no special requirements. While it is commonly treated by the implantation of an balloon-expandable stent, micro injuries may occur during stent deployment, and induce in-stent restenosis, whose consequence can be fatal. Studying this undesirable phenomenon is usually limited as experimental data is hard to obtain on ethical ground. Numerical simulation are performed to better understand this problem. To construct a more realistic simulation of a balloon-expandable stent, a partitioned strongly-coupled FSI simulation of the balloon deployment was set up using the ICFD solver of LS-DYNA, - a quite innovative approach. The complex balloon configuration as well as the interaction of the injection medium and the balloon structure was considered. The balloon structure consisting of shell elements was obtained from preliminary balloon folding and pleating simulations. The balloon consists of a flexible thin walled polyamide. The injection fluid is implemented using volume elements. Balloon deployment was initiated by a pressure boundary condition inducing a volume flow into the balloon. The initial feasibility analysis showed promising result including a continuous balloon deployment and a reasonable development of the fluid pressure and velocity field. However, applying this FSI approach to a more complex balloon structure led to a non convergent solution. The non-convergence could be mainly reduced to mechanical factors including the low wall thickness of the balloon (< 0.05 mm) and the flexibility of the polyamide. Further, the ICFD solver shows less accuracy concerning the FSI conditions when dealing with thin flexible structures as well as enclosed volumes. Production planning in a typical manufacturing organization is a sequence of complex decisions which depends on a number of factors, such as number of products, complexity of products, number of production sites, and number of work centres in each production site. The main idea in hierarchical production planning is to break down larger problems into smaller, more manageable sub problems. Starting with aggregate production planning, the benefits of using master production scheduling for material requirements planning will be conveyed. The main benefit of master production scheduling is more detailed planning. The production groups are thereby disaggregated into final products and the production site disaggregated into work centres. In order to plan capacities, resource profiles are used. By working with resource profiles production lead time data are taken into account to provide time-phased projections of the capacity requirements for each work centre (Vollmann et al. 2005). Those courses and their videos are often professionally produced and incorporate a significant investment of time and financial resources. In many cases such courses are "flagship" productions of the associated school or university and produced with budgets lecturers in other institutions do not have available. This makes the use of videos in a regular teaching environment challenging. In addition, lecturers often act in high-teaching-load environments further tightening their capacity constraints. This raises the question whether and how lecturers can benefit from videos in their lectures for increased teaching effectiveness while not sacrificing teaching efficiency. The paper at hand attempts to address this question by providing a critical perspective on the use of videos in a high-teaching-load environment characterized by little financial and staff resource availability. The paper thereby builds upon the three years' experience of its author in using videos to enhance lectures in German tertiary education institutions in a multi-language, i.e., English and German, teaching environment. The presented findings are both relevant for teaching practice and research: lecturers may benefit from the presented ideas and experiences and may adopt them for their teaching. Researchers may find starting points for new research opportunities on the effectiveness and efficiency of video-enhanced lecturing and learning. The paper is organized as follows. Section 2 describes the context of the study from an institutional and technological perspective. Section 3 outlines the methodology applied and 4 how data was collected. Results from data analysis are presented in section 5. The paper concludes with a reflective summary and outlook in section 6.}, subject = {Hochschulbildung}, language = {en} } @inproceedings{WestnerKennedyFurlong, author = {Westner, Markus and Kennedy, F. and Furlong, A.}, title = {Global student collaboration through international blended learning}, series = {Proceedings of the 10th Annual International Conference of Education, Research and Innovation (ICERI2017), Seville, Spain. 16-18 November}, booktitle = {Proceedings of the 10th Annual International Conference of Education, Research and Innovation (ICERI2017), Seville, Spain. 16-18 November}, doi = {10.21125/iceri.2017.2030}, pages = {7625 -- 7631}, abstract = {In today's business, collaboration in globally distributed teams becomes more and more common. This is particularly the case in professional services and information systems (IS) where the immaterial nature of services makes globally distributed service creation easily possible. Consequently, companies expect that graduates have intercultural skills and that they are able to work in globally distributed teams, especially in professional services like consulting or in IS. However, management or IS curriculums often lack courses that teach those respective skills. The suggested course attempts to fill this gap through an innovative course design and delivery. The course intends to replicate a professional project environment in which the students are supposed to deliver a project as a joint international team. In the beginning of the course, students learn key aspects of project management, intercultural management, distributed collaboration, and the professional services industry in a self-paced manner through video lectures. Then they form teams, plan their project, and subsequently execute their project plan jointly. Instructors from the participating institutions supervise and coach the students. The project execution is supposed to resemble a business project with a meeting schedule, agreed deliverables, regular steering committees in which the instructors play the role of the clients. This paper outlines the concept of this international blended-teaching course. It suggests potential learning objectives, a course description, a teaching syllabus, and an assessment framework.}, subject = {Integriertes Lernen}, language = {en} } @inproceedings{SonnleitnerWestner, author = {Sonnleitner, Daniel and Westner, Markus}, title = {Quo vadis IT infrastructure}, series = {Proceedings of the 22nd UKAIS Conference : Ubiquitous Information Systems: Surviving and thriving in a connected society, 2017 Oxford, April 3rd-5th 2017}, booktitle = {Proceedings of the 22nd UKAIS Conference : Ubiquitous Information Systems: Surviving and thriving in a connected society, 2017 Oxford, April 3rd-5th 2017}, pages = {14}, abstract = {Many IT organizations are confronted with the question whether to modernize their IT infrastructure. While most data centers run on a virtualized environment, Cloud Computing technology emerges with new characteristics on fast provision of standardized resources in a scalable IT infrastructure. Public cloud vendors offer IT services on demand, so that IT organizations do not have to operate their own hardware. Moreover, private cloud architectures gain influence, claiming to provide flexible and elastic IT infrastructure. The paper at hand guides the strategic decision for adoption of Cloud Computing on IT infrastructure. Therefore, we first introduce a taxonomy for IT infrastructure encompassing a technological and a sourcing perspective. Second, we evaluate selective areas of the taxonomy adopting the SWOT framework to understand both opportunities and challenges of Cloud Computing for IT infrastructure from a business perspective.}, subject = {Cloud Computing}, language = {en} } @article{KopperWestnerStrahringer, author = {Kopper, Andreas and Westner, Markus and Strahringer, Susanne}, title = {Kontrollierte Nutzung von Schatten-IT}, series = {HMD Praxis der Wirtschaftsinformatik}, volume = {54}, journal = {HMD Praxis der Wirtschaftsinformatik}, publisher = {Springer}, doi = {10.1365/s40702-016-0286-x}, pages = {97 -- 110}, abstract = {Basierend auf einer systematischen und umfangreichen Analyse von Praxisbeitr{\"a}gen zum Thema Schatten-IT, die zwischen September 2015 und August 2016 erschienen sind, beschreibt der vorliegende Artikel Governance-Aspekte zu diesem Ph{\"a}nomen. To date, however, academic literature has presented surprisingly little information about the application of Lean Management in Information Technology (IT) organizations, or what is called Lean IT. Drawing upon an empirical qualitative case study of the IT departments of two multinational companies, in this paper we identify change management lessons learned for Lean IT implementations, as well as seven characteristics of a corresponding change management approach.
