FAQ

Can I place my text on OHMdok if it has already been published?

Yes. Already published works placed on OPUS become available free of charge to the general public, and are no longer restricted to, for example, the subscribers of a particular journal or database. This form of online availability is known as open access, and it has the endorsement of the German Rectors’ Conference and Federal Ministry of Education and Research. Once online, works are easily found and accessed directly from any computer with an internet connection. Publications on OPUS are permanently archived on the servers of the German National Library.

The terms for secondary publication on servers like OPUS vary from publisher to publisher. The SHERPA/ROMEO list records most of the major publishers and their open access policies.

Please be sure to follow the legal requirements in your agreement with the publisher. Many publishers permit secondary publication only with restrictions such as a mandatory embargo period or the use of original formatting.
