TY - RPRT A1 - Guangwei, Shu A1 - Meisinger, Reinhold A1 - Gang, Shen T1 - Modeling and Simulation of Shanghai MAGLEV Train Transrapid with Random Track Irregularities N2 - The MAGLEV Transrapid is a kind of new type high speed train in the world which is levitated and guided over the track using electro- magnetic forces. Because the electro magnets are unstable, they have to be controlled. Since 2002 the worldwide first commercial use of such a high speed train based on German technology is running successfully in Shanghai Pudong Airport, P.R.China. In this paper modeling of the high speed MAGLEV train Transrapid is discussed, which considered the whole mechanical system of one vehicle with optimized suspension parameters and all controlled electro magnet pairs in vertical and lateral directions. The dynamical simulation code is generated with MATLAB/SIMILINK. For the design of the control system, the optimal Linear Quadratic Control for minimum control energy is used for each single electro magnet. The simulation results are presented with the given vertical and lateral random track irregularities. The research work was carried out together with Prof. Shen Gang, Ph.D. during the time Prof. Dr. Meisinger was visiting professor in Shanghai 2006 and Prof. Shu Guangwei, M.Sc. was visiting professor in Nuremberg 2007. It is expected to eliminate the phenomenon of the vehicle-guideway coupling vibration caused by the hypothesis of a rigid guideway, which usually happens in the current high-speed MAGLEV line, and reduce the over dependence of system stability on the guideway properties. A test rig for the elastic guideway levitation system was founded and the effectiveness of the new observer-controller was verified. The equations of motion of the electromechanical components are derived with LAGRANGE-function in state space notation. Because of the instability of the electromagnetic levitation system the vehicle must be actively controlled. The controller is de-signed by Linear Quadratic Control. An observer (KALMAN-Filter) is used to estimate the states which can not be measured or are influenced by noise. For the simulation of the controlled system the toolbox MATLAB is used. Simulation results for the time histories of the magnet gap and the accele-ration are given for a gap initial condition. The general simulation problem of a high speed MAGLEV vehicle on a flexible guideway includes two closely related problems, both of which are, in a sense, limiting cases. In the first case the magnet force is constant and in the second case the magnet gap is constant. To describe the dynamics of the distributed parameter system, modal analysis technique is used. Simulation results are given comparing the solutions for dynamic displacements of a single and a double-span guideway, when the moving vehicle is modelled with a constant force or with a constant gap. Till the year 2000 different test and application MAGLEV vehicles followed, but no commercial use in Germany. Since December 31st 2002 the Shang-hai MAGLEV Transportation System is successfully in operation, as the worldwide first and only one commercial used MAGLEV line. Cabins suspended from the elevated guideway glide along towards to their destination. The vehicles can run on the double track route at one-minute intervalls with a nominal speed of 50 km/h. The guideway consists of boxshaped steel beams with a narrow slot on bottom. With its structure it forms the inside support wheel and guidance wheel tracks for the bogies. The passenger cabins hanging on the bogies are oscillating in lateral direction influenced by the periodic track irregularities. For different system parameters the response of the lateral cabin acceleration at the center of gravity is determined by frequency response analysis and computer simulation. It is shown that by optimizing the design parameters the passenger ride comfort in lateral direction can be improved enormously. Further improvement is possible only by active control.
