This study deals with the life story of Jacob of Sarug (A.D. 451-521) and the various typologies of the Church scattered in his copious mimre. Jacob of Sarug is one of the most prolific, distinguished, and influential Syriac authors, yet a systematic examination of his symbolic language referring to the Church remains a desideratum. The following research satisfies this want which stems from the fact that the Church is next to Jesus Christ in importance, as her subject is prominent in Jacob's poetic works. The work presented herein complements and contributes to the scholarly works already published in the theological field of Syriac Ecclesiology. Moreover, it is a foundational study for further researchers and theologians wishing to investigate Jacob’s comprehension of the Church.
This study shows that the question about the person of Jacob of Sarug shall remain unsatisfactorily answered, for his life stories discovered in extant manuscripts are hagiographical. Next, it reveals the Church as a building on Golgotha based on the actions of Melchizedek, Abraham, Jacob, and Moses. Then, it explains Jacob's depiction of the Church as a fisherman and life-giving fishnet. Next, it deals with the topic of the Church as the Garden of Eden on Earth in whose midst is the Tree of Life. Lastly, this study explicates the notion of the Church as the Virgin Bride of Christ.
The Church as such emerges as a permanent reality solidly founded on the cross, a sacramental and missionary Church, and sacrifice is central to her understanding. The Mysteries and the proclamation of the Good News are essential to the continuation of her Lord's mission. Moreover, she is a return to the Garden of Eden which anticipates God's promise of salvation in the afterlife.
Finally, Christ will always be united to her no matter what, for she is in effect his created body. Therefore, she remains with him wherever he is, and her actions mimic his deeds. She follows him to Sheol, breaks down its gates, frees Adam, resurrects with her Lord, is victorious over sin and death, and nothing overcomes her.
The essays of the cumulative dissertation are concerned with the distribution in retailing with multi-compartment vehicles.
An effective distribution planning is a central aspect for the success of retailers. Due to a highly competitive market, retailers are forced to constantly optimize processes along the supply chain to satisfy the given requirements. On the one hand, customers expect the constant availability of various products while asking for high quality. On the other, an ever increasing pressure on prices exists. The involved logistic processes therefore need to be highly efficient to fulfil the given requirements. An important part plays thereby the distribution of goods to stores, where consumers are supplied. Here, multi-compartment vehicles offer a variety of new possibilities for distribution. The core attribute of multi-compartment vehicles is the simultaneous delivery of different temperature zones with the same vehicle. Besides the new options that therefore open up for distribution, further processes and costs incurred by the use of multi-compartment vehicles need to be taken into account.
The first essay presents the basic attributes of multi-compartment vehicles as well as the differences to processes with single-compartment vehicles. The distribution with both single- and multi-compartment vehicles is illustrated and the differences are discussed. Further, the essay discusses current literature for the distribution with multi-compartment vehicles in retailing. Based on these findings, a formal model for the distribution with multi-compartment vehicles is presented in the second essay. The model considers cost and process differences, especially for loading and unloading actions. The use of multi-compartment vehicles is analysed and saving potentials revealed, using the model and a tailor-made solution approach. The remaining essays (essays 3, 4 and 5) further extend the introduced model to consider additional aspects relevant in practice. More precisely, the third essay considers the optimal fleet mix if both single- and multi-compartment vehicles are available for distribution. The fourth essay identifies loading restrictions if multi-compartment vehicles are used and presents an innovative solution approach to address the arising problem and which enables a distribution planning without loading and unloading problems. Finally, the concluding essay (essay 5) extends the discussed planning problem for multiple periods. In particular, it examines the impact of consistent deliveries for all considered product segments across the complete planning horizon.
Konvergenz reeller Tschebyscheff-, klassischer Padé- und Lp-Approximationen, p>1: Inverse Probleme
(2018)
This case study aims to identify, inventory and classify existing and potential tourism resources in Iraq al-Amir and its surrounding areas, which could be used as baseline data by decision-makers for future tourism development to develop, promote, and market the area. Additionally, it uses evaluation criteria to identify potential tourism resources, in order to determine suitability and likelihood of success if development does take place. Three distinct tourism segments are considered: cultural heritage, nature-based, and agritourism.
Study findings are primarily based on qualitative methodology, in the form of interviews and field observations. Quantitative methodology was used to extract some of the data from maps of the case study area, as data for some of the criteria was not provided by the respondents. Analysis of the data confirms that Iraq al-Amir and its surrounding areas have abundant potential tourism resources for all three of the tourism segments analysed, particularly in terms of diversification.
Findings reveal that the case study area has inadequate basic infrastructure. A major drawback to the feasibility of future tourism activities is the lack of easy access. The main access road is narrow and very winding, but it would be possible for visitors to use three existing alternative roads to access the area if they were upgraded and signposted. The lack of infrastructure is a direct result of ineffective coordination and cooperation among stakeholders, from both the public and private sectors, together with complicated regulations and laws, which has limited the extent to which the local community tourism is able to benefit from development and investment opportunities which a strong tourism industry could potentially provide.
Conclusions from the case study affirm that Iraq al-Amir and its surrounding areas are suitable for tourism development, due to its diverse range of attractions, one of the major factors relating to successful tourism. Diversity of attractions is a key motivation for tourists to visit a destination. Without attractions, there is no need to supply facilities and services. Potential facilities and services provided for tourist related activities could also be used by the local population, thus significantly improving quality of life in the case study area, which currently lacks such infrastructure.
This dissertation comprises three empirical studies on corporate social responsibility (CSR). The first study examines how an exogenous increase in agency problems affects CSR investment decisions. The second study examines whether the value relevance of CSR reporting is affected by customer profile differences. The third study examines how national culture shapes several fundamental corporate decisions determining the credibility of CSR reports. Collectively, the three studies provide novel and holistic evidence on why managers pursue CSR.

This dissertation provides updating findings to innovation studies, which explicitly underpins the role of cultural values in sustainable innovation from Macro and Micro perspectives. The first two papers discussed cultural values at a Macro level while the third and fourth papers revealed the impact of cultural values on adoption of sustainable innovation at a Micro level specifically from consumer and producer perspectives.
This dissertation consists of three articles that point out new perspectives on private equity and leverage buyouts, and enrich the current state of research through considerable efforts to better understand how private equity is creating value and how macroeconomic conditions affect the debt side:

The first article deals with the influence of macroeconomic changes on the default rates of private equity loans. It identifies significant variables which have strong and significant predictive power on the LBO default rates in the U.S. market.
The second article, deals with the value creation levers which investors use to create value in their portfolio companies. This research casts light on the impact of the holding period, the effects of divesting activities and expectations about the future shape of the economy on the performance of deals.
The third article deals with firm-specific triggers of LBO defaults. Asset liquidation potential as an additional source of cash flow available for servicing debt, the valuation of the investment, the strength of the negotiated covenants, the pressure of the target's refinancing need, and the stage of the fund's life cycle.
