The topic of this postdoctoral lecturing qualification study is the role of Napoleon in the context of music, especially Italian vocal music: his historical position and the reception of Napoleon’s musical relationship. In which way Napoleon’s Comparing of Italy seems to be a big musical opera scene will be demonstrated with the examples Venice and Milan. On the basis of archive-studies and on the closed relation of historical musical sources will be analyzed especially cantatas to paying homage, but also the thematic „music and liturgy“ and the pragmatic and practical musical preparations of the Napoleon’s coronation celebration in Milan. The critical explanation of the different musical compositions of Giovanni Simone Mayr which are emerging in this historical period will be the thread of this study in the background of the historical, political and cultural affairs.

Idomeneos "Sprache". Zum Umfeld einer umstrittenen Oper
Idomeneo's "Language". The Environment of a controversal Opera
The language found in Idomeneo, Mozart’s new opera seria of the 18th century comes from an educated background, as used by Horace and Metastasio. Moreover it is closely linked to the prevailing new ideas emerging on the living stage and in the theory of music.
