Today’s world is marked by growing economic ties and an increasing focus on
homogenizing countries and continents – yet at the same time, the gap between rich and
poor countries widens. The expansion of interrelations on political, economic and social levels led to the rise of new free trade agreements covering a developmental component as well, which can be highly influential for the economic situation of a developing country. For that reason, the present paper aims at pointing out the influences of EU trade relations on African communities. In order to do so, general potentials and risks as well as impacts based on a number of studies and figures will be illustrated and the current European Partnership Agreements between the EU and a number of African, Caribbean and Pacific countries will serve as in-depth example for the present research. A comparative analysis between the Caribbean, in which the Agreement has already been implemented since 2008, and the African region will further serve as a basis for future estimations on how European Partnership Agreements will likely impact Africa after their implementation. Besides the potentials that serve as legitimation for implementing free trade agreements with a focus on the developmental aspect for developing countries, the findings reveal a number of risks and challenges that need to be addressed. Furthermore, the paper provides the reader with an assessment of the dependency relation between the EU and Africa as
well as an aggregation of future expectations.

The EU-China Trade and Economic Relations Under The Belt and Road Initiative (BRI) Background
(2019)
Ever since the European Union(EU) and China established comprehensive strategic partnership in 2003, the relationship between the two sides have been deepened and developing towards a more matured level, especially in trade and economic cooperation sector. After the China’s Belt and Road Initiative(BRI) was firstly unveiled in 2013, the infrastructure connectivity, trade relation, bilateral investment, etc., between the EU and China have achieved significant improvement after 5 years’ implication of the BRI. While it is obviously that the EU-China trade and economic relation benefit from the improvements and opportunities brought by the BRI, there are still challenges and different views exist. This research analyzes of the situation of the EU-China trade and economic relation under the BRI background, including improvements, opportunities, as well as problems and challenges that the BRI brings, in the view from both sides, thus look for common grounds for the two sides among the divergent viewpoints, and strengthen the EU-China trade and economic relations.

The objective of this master’s thesis paper is to investigate the middle class in China in a comprehensive way and examine the main defying elements of Chinese middle class. In addition to this, this master’s thesis attempts to dive deep and find the overlapping points between middle class and economic growth by talking about the middle class development issues. Historical analysis of middle class
development is also touched in this paper to understand what factors were behind its growth until these days.
In an overall view of my thesis work which is academically backed by previous researches and scholarly papers it is found that economic growth, achievements related to higher education and fair redistribution policies lead to reduced income inequality are the major elements that contribute to the growth of middle class. It is even more significant than social policies which explains class mobility. Based on the findings of my analysis of China, per capita income growth of Chinese people was the major element that expanded Chinese middle class by almost 75% through creating more open business market, and the rest of the factor was done due to inequality changes occurred in China. The growth was mainly occurred via creation of formal jobs which were fairer in payment and increased qualifications of labor force. There was also radical decrease in inequality of labor earnings which is the major factor for reducing income inequality among households. This can be explained by the fact that minimum wages kept rising throughout the 90’s which in turn modified the patterns of middle class consumption.
Blockchain technology is often associated with Bitcoin, but the technology enables more possibilities, such as smart contract which offers the opportunity to conclude contracts between at least two parties without a central instance e.g. a bank or notary. However, this technology is relatively new and undiscovered. It remains to be clarified whether the technology can establish in the business world. This thesis analyses the feasibility of this approach. Social, legal and technical aspects and their challenges are considered. The aim is to discuss the use of smart contracts, to examine the feasibility of establishing and to give recommendations for further measures. For this, several literatures were read to understand the different aspects and to make an overall assessment. In general, it can be said that time is needed to understand the technology and the resulting new opportunities and thereby to build trust. Finally, it can be argued that in all three aspects changes are needed to discover the full potential of the technology. Data protection should become less stringent to not hinder further progress, technology must continue to research and set standards, and society should be educated to overcome the fear of innovation.

This thesis focuses on the current SOE reform ambitions of the Xi administration which envisaged the creation of state-owned capital management systems to reform China´s SOE sector. While SOEs, as suggested in the recent reform catalogues issued by the CCP are supposed to be divided into commercially and non-commercially driven, this thesis intends to analyse whether the envisaged state-owned capital management systems can improve the performance of Chinese SOEs which are classified as commercial. If the implementation of capital management systems will be successful largely depends on the corporate environment of SOEs. Principal-agent and free-rider problems as well as soft-budget constraints, which most of the SOEs are subject to can hamper a successful implementation. Thus, in order to neither become a redundant institution nor amplifying existing institutional problems the question is: how should state-owned capital management systems be organized and operated in order to curb institutional problems to the greatest extent possible? To answer this question, the thesis examines if the Singaporean Temasek Holdings, often rewarded for its outstanding corporate governance practices, can serve as a role model for the creation of state-owned capital management systems in China. Therefore, the environment under which Temasek Holdings operate as well as its organizational structure and the government-linked companies (GLC) it manages will be examined, to point out the reasons for the exceptional sound corporate governance practices of Singapore´s state-owned sector. This thesis asserts that the Singaporean Temasek approach can serve as a potential role model for the creation of state-owned capital management system in China, but only when several institutional preconditions are fulfilled that create an environment that allows capital management systems to unfold their power and reduce institutional problems to the minimum level possible while the state remains the ultimate power. These preconditions only can be fulfilled if the Chinese government is willed to gradually withdraw from the management of SOEs and is ready to concede more autonomy to the directors and managers of SOEs by introducing more independent directors and create an institutional framework that promotes sound corporate governance practices.
What does the end consumers think about our recently launched smartphone and how does this translate to future sales prospects? What are the implications of economic sanctions on our business? Economists and business analysts are facing these questions in their daily work. Sentiment analysis allows answering such questions as it enables corporations to evaluate web content on a large scale. Exploring the possibility of inte-grating global sentiments into the sales forecast is the aim of this research paper. Twitter has been chosen as the sole source for data retrieval due to its unique property of being a social network-, news broadcasting- and advertising-platform. The analysis reveals the opportunities and limits of sentiment analysis and its integration capability. The results show that a causal relationship among the public's opinion and sales development is present. Sanctions are reflected in the voice of the public with immediate effect but have moderate impact on sales in the short-term. In the midterm, such political and economic measures could impact the sentiments and – among other micro-economic factors –translate into decreasing sales. Ultimately, the sentiment analysis is suitable for a con-tinuous monitoring procedure and thus optimizes the comprehensiveness of convention-al forecasting methods.

With over one million people arriving in Germany to seek asylum since 2013, entering the labour market remains a key aspect for a successful integration process. In their attempt to attain employment, the recently arrived refugees face multiple challenges. One aspect that offers great potential to support them in finding suitable jobs and enhance their employability are Active Labour Market Policies (ALMPs). This includes measures such as job-counselling, vocational training and direct placement in public or subsidised employment.
This research explores the extent to which ALMPs meet the needs and aspirations of recently arrived refugees with regard to entering the labour market. By means of conducting interviews with members of the target group, this research aims to gain insights into the accessibility, relevance and overall suitability of ALMPs from the perspective of the study participants themselves.
The study shows that the participants ALMPs as relevant in terms of responding to their employment needs and aspirations. However, they perceive the accessible range of activation measures to be limited to a large degree. Certain activation measures were perceived as highly irrelevant, while some were even perceived to be obstructive to their pursuit of employment. Most notably, the participants felt supported by the employees of Public Employment Services (PES) when it comes to receiving short term training. However, when it comes to long-term training, they felt discouraged or even obstructed. This illustrated a perceived conflict between the participants' long-term aspirations, which included a focus on long-term development, and the PES’s emphasis on short-term arrangements and a quick path into employment.
