Digitalization as an attribute of many western countries developed in the 19th century. As a driver of technological change, digitalization has encouraged the developments and production of derived technologies such as internets, computer, smart phone etc. Software applications such as zoom, blue-button etc. are proves that distance is no longer a barrier for communication. Overall, digitalization and technological change are a fundamental foundation for today’s economic growth. There has been rapid increase in new businesses due to creativity and innovation. While this is evident, the present increase in low wage, non-standard work, working poverty and skill shortages are a concern on how digitalization impact employment pattern and social life. The objective of this paper is to provide evidence on the rise of precarious employment and to express the extent at which digitalization impact skill shortages in the German labour market. Structural labour market problems such as skill shortages (continuous demand for high skill individuals) and rise in precarious employment are a major concern that needs to be tackled in the German labour market.
The coronavirus (COVID-19) outbreak shows that pandemics and epidemics can seriously wreak havoc on supply chains (SC) around the globe. Humanitarian logistics literature has extensively studied epidemic impacts; however, there exists a research gap in understand-ing of pandemic impacts in commercial SCs. To progress in this direction, we present a systematic analysis of the impacts of epidemic outbreaks on SCs guided by a structured lit-erature review that collated a unique set of publications. The literature review findings sug-gest that influenza was the most visible epidemic outbreak reported, and that optimization of resource allocation and distribution emerged as the most popular topic. The streamlining of the literature helps us to reveal several new research tensions and novel categorizations/classifications. Most centrally, we propose a framework for operations and supply chain management at the times of COVID-19 pandemic spanning six perspectives, i.e., adap-tation, digitalization, preparedness, recovery, ripple effect, and sustainability. Utilizing the outcomes of our analysis, we tease out a series of open research questions that would not be observed otherwise. Our study also emphasizes the need and offers directions to advance the literature on the impacts of the epidemic outbreaks on SCs framing a research agenda for scholars and practitioners working on this emerging research stream.
Due to the increased use of innovative technologies and the opportunities that the digitalization age has to offer, Self-Service Reporting (SSR) has been identified by both research and practice as a trend that can change the steering of company activities as
well as the daily tasks of the Controller. This study assesses both the prerequisites for implementing Self-Service Business Intelligence (SSBI) solutions and the effects of SSR on decision-making to contribute to former findings from management accounting research. Based on state-of-the-art literature, a web-based survey was created and shared among Controlling, data analysis, and reporting experts, as well as managers.
The gathered sample data with 122 respondents from a variety of industries was analyzed with different statistical methods. Based on extensive quantitative analysis, it can be assumed that Controllers operating in an SSR environment need to become more independent and acquire new technological and social skills. Furthermore, the employer's digitalization strategy must be clearly defined and communicated transparently to all stakeholders before successfully introducing SSBI technology. Additionally, high data governance and data management standards are indispensable for the implementation of SSR software. Concerning the effects on decision-making, it can be summarized that organizations can achieve a higher degree of flexibility and agility with a digital reporting system such as SSR. Moreover, decision-making processes are expected to become faster.
Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) is perceived, and by some even portrayed, as the enabler to tackle the world’s biggest problems such as hunger, poverty or climate change. While progress is made in some areas, other issues become more severe. The concept of CSR is now challenged by a digital revolution. Digitalization is one of the most – if not even the most significant topic of our time. By creating opportunities for new businesses models and value creation while revolutionising communication and information processes, most industries and societies got disrupted already. With digitalization having effects on all three pillars of CSR it could strongly influence its design and efforts, however, it is mostly ignored in the CSR environment so far. Initiatives such as the UN Global Contract or the ISO 26.000 norm do not list digitalization amongst their categories. This research study elucidates the digitalization of CSR. With the help of ten semi-structured expert interviews, the author develops an overview of the current status of digitalizing CSR, the future potential, effects on effectiveness, impact as well as on benefits and risks. The study revealed that a clear distinction between digitization and digitalization of CSR is necessary. Looking at the current state it was disclosed that CSR has become a partially digital topic. However, the study identified the human factor as a strong determinant for further digitalization of CSR. A positive correlation of digitalization and effectiveness was established, while for the correlation of digitalization and impact, no assertion on a general basis was possible. While experts see clear benefits, many risks were established as well, which makes a thorough consideration of specific examples necessary.
