In the decades during which the topic of latecomer catch-up strategy has received attention, the advancement of technology interdisciplinary in the new era opens up a big window for opportunities. The cochlear implant (CI) industry is such an industry with high technological standard as well as great market opportunity. However, strategies of latecomers in the CI industry have not yet been thoroughly studied due to the complexity of the industry.
Thus, this paper seeks to shed some light on the high-tech latecomer catch-up strategies in cochlear implant industry. To be specific, a case of Nurotron Biotechnology Co., a latecomer firm under an emerging market background of China has been studied. By analyzing latecomer advantages and disadvantages, with the support of primary data through interviews and secondary data from various sources, this study finds out that obtaining price advantage, enhancing products quality and innovation capacity, being customer oriented and advanced international networking contribute to the success of high-tech latecomer firms.
The findings allow latecomer firms to synthesize market catch-up strategy with technical innovation capacity to develop insights into latecomer strategies, through which they can develop a competitive advantage.
This paper examines the relationship between cross-cultural adaptation and job performance with expatriates who live in Berlin. A positive relationship between cross-cultural adaptation and job performance of expatriates is generally assumed, yet empirical studies do not consistently confirm this relationship. This cross-sectional study consists of a quantitative survey which will examine cross-cultural adaptation, cultural intelligence, and job performance among 58 participants.
This study will also address other variables that have may have an influence among expatriate adjustment and performance and include the following: gender, age, time spent in host country, and family presence.
This study does confirm the relationship between cross-cultural adaptation and job performance as well as the relationship between cultural intelligence and job performance as significant but only moderately correlated. The gender difference does show that females score statistically significant higher among males in cross-cultural adaptation and job performance; however, there was a weak correlation.
Age, time spent in host country, and family presence show a weak or non-correlation with cross-cultural adaptation, cultural intelligence, and job performance.
Due to the global competition within the automotive industry, the industry, its products, and its services are constantly changing and improving. An organization within this industry needs to strive for innovations in order to become or to stay competitive. Leaders within such an organization can contribute to establishing an innovation-conducive culture within their organization. This work focuses on fields of application of innovation-conducive leadership in such an organization, and on what obstacles a leader might find when fostering innovations in a company. The work is strongly based on findings from a small German automotive research and development enterprise, gives recommendations, and depicts examples of use.
