Abstract
Abstract
The European Union has been prizing itself for being the leader in terms of climate change, whereas its triptych approach and the 20-20-20 targets were a certainly enviable effort prior to the United Nations. However, with the economic crisis having left its mark, there has been decrease in ambitiousness and the paradigm is now dominated by competitiveness. The 2014 energy and climate package and its 2030 targets were therefore not only comparably unambitious but also not binding, whereas only GHG emission reduction was set. With the eastern countries traditionally being not very fond of climate policies, the thesis especially concentrates on where Poland and its coal-based energy system have stood as things developed and therefore assesses the role the country and the broader Visegrad Group had. Asking questions regarding the underlying reasons, the liberal intergovernmental framework is chosen to analyze how domestic preference building occurs and finds that the conventional energy has tremendous impact on policy making. This is followed by an assessment indicating that the directives of the first package were rather absorbed adopted and that Polish influence increasingly influenced EU ambitiousness over time.
Abstract:
Behind the glamour, the fashion industry is characterized by long working hours, monotonous tasks and hard labor conditions. These working conditions can pose some serious ethical issues if they are not addressed and there is where Corporate Social Responsibility strategies matter. Fashion brands are currently moving towards the fast fashion, a new trend within the industry that challenges the way fashion companies used to manage fashion industry requirements and working conditions without generating ethical issues. This study aims to analyze the conditions that lead fast fashion companies, such as H&M and Nike, to create good working conditions for their employees, keep the pace of the fashion industry and remain ethical companies throughout this process.
Abstract
A fast majority of academic researchs and publications about finance face the same problem: they are too theoretically
oriented. Not enough ones give traders results that are directly exploitable and can be concretely used to engage investments.
Since dozens of year, the investment mentality of
individual investors didn’t change as much as we think it did.
In the United-States, it is still culturally anchored to invest in the biggest market capitalizations, where a fierce competiton
among institutional investors and high-frequency trading
firms takes place.
The topic has been chosen to show that alternative
sources of investment and hence profit are still largely
unexploited in the stock market. Instead of focusing on market segments that draw all the attention, the focus is done on a niche that is still quite feared and dreded by a fast majority of investors, whether institutional or individual ones: the penny stocks. Can these securities be profitable long- or short-run investments ? The aim of this work is to fill the existing
literature gap in the area and offer day-traders a statistical hedge. It provides strategies and tools that can be used on a daily basis. The overall orientation of the essay is rather empirical because of its final goal to implement and test the
results with real money. The focus is on the practitioner withm real applicability and an improvement of its results is searched.
Abstract
Abstract:
Under the conditions of deregulated and liberalized financial markets the financial crisis of 2007/08 has rapidly spread all over the
world. It revealed inadequacies such as regulatory weaknesses, ineffective banking supervision, intransparent markets as well as
highly-complex financial products. With hindsight, it becomes obvious that the crisis haven’t been an ordinary banking crisis but rather a crisis
linked to a new phenomenon: Shadow Banking.
Shadow banking is highly speculative, risky and short-term oriented.
Furthermore shadow banks operate with enormous leverages. They are considered to be one of the main reasons for systemic risks in the financial system due to the high-level of interconnectedness to the
traditional banking sector. This paper deals with the question concerning the requirements and possibilities of financial market regulation. The analysis will focus on the role of the shadow banking system and discusses the efficiency of the previous financial regulation. We will argue that these regulations were insufficient and
hence, we will point out implications for a more stable financial system.

LET IT CLICK WITH THE BRICK GAINING INSIGHTS THROUGH LEGO SERIOUS PLAY AS A BRAND RESEARCH TOOL
(2017)
Abstract
The thesis at hand has the aim to find out if the management method LEGO SERIOUS
PLAY (LSP) is applicable for brand research. Secondary literature is reviewed
to detect current applications of the method in marketing and branding.
Additionally, LSP facilitators are interviewed as experts to investigate the potential
of the method for application in marketing and brand research, as well as identifying
success factors of the method. Moreover, workshops are performed examining
two variations of LSP using different bricks, as well as the comparison
method Free Expression Drawing (FED) to find out if brand associations can be
created to determine the brand image of a company.
The thesis starts with defining the terms brand research, brand research tools, and
LSP and continues with a description of the methodology and course of investigation.
The results of the literature review and the expert interviews are illustrated
showing current applications of LSP in marketing and brand research. Furthermore,
a scoring model is introduced to evaluate the suitability of LSP for brand
research combining the key findings of the workshops and additional factors. In
the discussion the results are interpreted, limitations of the conducted research are
illustrated and implications for further research are given.
The conclusion of the conducted research is that LSP is suitable to investigate the
brand image of a company but the drawbacks of the method need to be considered.
