What technical requirements should my document meet?

An electronic document intended to be published via OPUShtw must fulfil the following conditions:

  • It is intended for dissemination to the public.

  • It is not a dynamic document. If changes are required, the modified electronic document is saved as a new version.

  • It is in PDF, PDF/A, TXT, HTML, HTM, ZIP, DOC, JPG, GIF or TIF format and free from technical protection and digital rights management (DRM) methods.

  • The file size must not exceed 250 MB.

  • The file name contains only alphanumeric characters (a-z, A-Z and 0-9) as well as hyphens (-) and underscores (_). Spaces are not allowed.

    Further information

To ensure long-term archiving, the German National Library requires that the document is not protected against copying or access.

The size of the file should be as small as possible to optimise the use of storage resources. If possible, it is recommended to use the PDF/A format. PDF/A is an international standard that was specially developed for archiving documents to enable a high level of compatibility. This format ensures, for example, that the file can be read even if it is opened on a computer on which the fonts used are not installed.
