Despite both countries having similar policies and a similar industry kickstart in the sixties and seventies, their paths have diverged since the beginning of the 21st century. This study analyzes the reasons behind this divergence, finding that inappropriate policy design, lack of collaborative institutions, passive FDI, untailored incentives scheme, failure to enhance the industry's ecosystem, inability to promote workforce knowledge and capabilities, and unstable political and business environment are the main reasons for this divergence. Currently, Egypt is trying to revive the industry by forming new laws and associations. Thus, looking at the Moroccan experience may help automotive stakeholders and governments in Egypt and African countries to set and design policies for the industry's resurgence.}, language = {en} }
