This exploratory study examines the prevalence of Masculinity Contest Culture (MCC) in German startups and related gender dynamics. The Masculinity Contest Culture scale, which assesses masculine norms related to emotional resilience, physical superiority, workaholism, and aggressive competitiveness, was employed to collect data from 101 participants representing various startups. The results indicate an overall low prevalence of MCC, with slightly higher scores for strong commitment to work. Individuals from disparate gender and hierarchical status groups exhibited comparable ratings of the intensity of toxic masculinity. While the presence of female founders and supervisors did not affect MCC scores, male dominance within the work environment had a small but significant amplifying effect. Significant differences were observed based on the prevailing leadership style, indicating that a shared leadership approach is associated with the creation of a more inclusive and less toxic work environment. The results challenge commonly held assumptions about tech startups. In addition, the study highlights the need for further research into the impact of leadership dynamics on startup culture.}, subject = {Unternehmensgr{\"u}ndung}, language = {en} } @article{Sandberg, author = {Sandberg, Berit}, title = {Outcomes of Art-Based Leadership Development: A Qualitative Metasummary}, series = {Behavioral Sciences}, volume = {14}, journal = {Behavioral Sciences}, number = {8}, editor = {Gomes, A. This systematic review investigates evidence on the outcomes of art-based leadership development, addressing the critical need for empirical validation of its effectiveness. A qualitative metasummary was employed to review 31 empirical studies published between 2008 and 2023. The studies were sourced from databases including Business Source Complete, ERIC, PsycINFO, Scopus, and Web of Science. The Quality Assessment for Diverse Studies (QuADS) tool was used to assess the studies. The analysis revealed that art-based methods significantly enhance reflective and reflexive practices, higher-order cognitive skills, emotional intelligence, and interpersonal competencies. Representing leader development, art-based initiatives facilitate holistic self-discovery and transformative shifts in mindset, offering a valuable complement to conventional skill-based approaches. Despite these promising benefits, the review highlights a need for more rigorous empirical studies, particularly longitudinal and quantitative research, to substantiate the long-term effectiveness of art-based methods.}, subject = {Erfahrungsorientiertes Lernen}, language = {en} } @article{Sandberg, author = {Sandberg, Berit}, title = {Effects of Arts-Based Pedagogy on Competence Development in Nursing: A Critical Systematic Review}, series = {Nursing Reports}, volume = {14}, journal = {Nursing Reports}, number = {2}, editor = {Mart{\´i}nez-Sabater, Antonio and Chover-Sierra, Elena and Saus-Ortega, Carles}, publisher = {MDPI}, issn = {2039-4403}, doi = {10.3390/nursrep14020083}, url = {http://nbn-resolving.de/urn:nbn:de:kobv:523-18379}, pages = {1089 -- 1118}, abstract = {The integration of arts-based methods into nursing education is a topic of growing interest in nursing practice. While there is an emerging body of research on this subject, evidence on competence development remains vague, largely due to methodological weaknesses. The purpose of this review is to evaluate the effectiveness of arts-based pedagogy in nursing, specifically in terms of students' changes in knowledge, skills, and attitudes. It explores which arts-based approaches to nursing education qualify as evidence-based practice in terms of nursing competence. A systematic critical review of research on arts-based pedagogy in nursing was conducted, identifying 43 relevant studies. These studies were assessed for methodological quality based on the CEC Standards for evidence-based practice, and 13 high-quality comparative studies representing a variety of arts-based approaches were selected. Creative drama was identified as the only evidence-based practice in the field, positively affecting empathy. The findings highlight a research gap in nursing education and emphasize the need for measurement and appraisal tools suitable for the peculiarities of arts-based pedagogy.}, subject = {Lernen}, language = {en} } @misc{Sandberg, author = {Sandberg, Berit}, title = {Kunst in der Pflegeausbildung: Quellenverzeichnis}, url = {http://nbn-resolving.de/urn:nbn:de:kobv:523-16138}, pages = {1 -- 6}, abstract = {Vollst{\"a}ndiges Quellenverzeichnis zu: Berit Sandberg, Kunst in der Pflegeausbildung, PADUA, 1/2023}, language = {de} } @article{SandbergStasewitschPruemper, author = {Sandberg, Berit and Stasewitsch, Elena and Pr{\"u}mper, Jochen}, title = {Skills Development through Virtual Art-Based Learning: Learning Outcomes of an Advanced Training Program for Project Managers}, series = {Education Sciences}, volume = {12}, journal = {Education Sciences}, number = {7}, editor = {Reichgelt, Han and Gordon, Neil}, publisher = {MDPI}, issn = {2227-7102}, doi = {10.3390/educsci12070455}, url = {http://nbn-resolving.de/urn:nbn:de:kobv:523-15897}, pages = {1 -- 16}, abstract = {With regard to emerging requirements of the professional field, uncertainty competence is a skill to be cultivated and integrated into project management education and training. Art-based learning seems to be a promising approach because the artistic mindset is a suitable model for coping with uncertainty. However, it is widely unclear to what extent art-based learning's experiential nature will result in soft skills development under the restrictions of distance education. The present quantitative study explores whether—in a virtual learning environment—art-based executive training has a measurable effect on uncertainty competence. Data collection and analysis applied a quasi-experimental pretest-posttest control group design. Participants in the experimental group completed a month-long virtual training program based on visual arts. Contrary to its objective, the program did not cause meaningful changes in uncertainty competence or perceived stress but had a significant effect on participants' attentiveness and presence. Participants achieved a higher level of mindfulness in dealing with complexity. The results imply that—even in virtual settings—art-based approaches enhance terms of perceptive capacity and social presence but need to be long-term, related to participants' individual work-context, and disturb participants' routines to have an effect on uncertainty competence.}, subject = {Projektmanagement}, language = {en} } @article{Sandberg, author = {Sandberg, Berit}, title = {The Artist as Innovation Muse: Findings from a Residence Program in the Fuzzy Front End}, series = {Administrative Sciences}, volume = {10}, journal = {Administrative Sciences}, number = {4}, publisher = {MDPI}, issn = {2076-3387}, doi = {10.3390/admsci10040088}, url = {http://nbn-resolving.de/urn:nbn:de:kobv:523-14567}, pages = {22}, abstract = {In a highly competitive business environment, integrating artists into corporate research and development (R\&D) seems to be a promising way to foster inventiveness and idea generation. Given the importance of individual level innovation for product development, this study explores the benefits that employees experience from the artist-in-residence-program at Robert Bosch GmbH, Germany. Qualitative content analysis of interviews with scientists and engineers was performed in order to explore the impact of their encounters with artists in the theoretical framework of the triadic concept and transmission model of inspiration. The findings corroborate the notion that inspiration is a suitable theoretical underpinning for individual benefits of art-science collaborations in the front end of innovation. Scientists and engineers are inspired by the artists' otherness and transcend their usual modes of perception in favor of enhanced focal, peripheral and bifocal vision. Whereas shifts in perspective are reflected in individual thinking patterns, researchers are hardly motivated to change their work-related behavior. The exchange with artists does not have a concrete impact on technological innovation, because researchers neither integrate impulses into their experiential world nor link them to fields of activity. In the case under scrutiny, artistic impulses do not contribute to idea generation in the sense of front-end activities. The study contributes to research on artists in businesses by illuminating the R\&D environment as a hitherto neglected field of activity.
