- Building Information Modeling (BIM) is becoming increasingly important as an innovative planning method in the construction industry. The aim of BIM is to enable networked planning based on a three-dimensional digital building model. This model integrates sub-models from all the specialist disciplines involved and is intended to depict the entire life cycle of the building. In addition to the three-dimensional representation, a key feature of BIM is the enrichment of the model elements with alphanumeric information. The concept of BIM planning aims to increase productivity and quality by consistently reusing the "intelligent" models and improving coordination and exchange between the various specialist disciplines. The aim is for all specialist disciplines to plan using a common model in order to minimize the susceptibility to errors. Clients are increasingly demanding the use of BIM in landscape architecture.
Partly because of this demand, this thesis deals with how selected BIM use cases can be implemented using software specially tailored to landscape architecture and landscaping and what advantages and new possibilities arise from the use of BIM methodology. During the study, several aspects of BIM planning are examined in detail. These include both the geometric modeling of the elements of a village square, which serves as a case study, and the data modeling of these elements. In the course of the work, the IFC export is also examined, and a proposal is made as to how classes implemented in IFC4.3 can be used in BIM planning for landscape architecture. Recommendations for software manufacturers and users are derived and formulated from the results.
The main finding of the work is that landscape architecture can already benefit from the use of BIM methodology. However, for projects in this specialist area to be processed exclusively using the BIM method, work must continue on both the standards and the programs for landscape architecture and landscape construction so that the correct classification and modeling of the components can be carried out in a similar way to architecture.
