Der Alpenraum steht vor besonderen Herausforderungen, die internationalen Ziele des Globalen Biodiversitätsrahmens sowie der EU-Verordnung über die Wiederherstellung der Natur („Nature Restoration Law“) umzusetzen. Neben etablierten Bestandteilen räumlicher Planungsdokumente, wie etwa zum Landschaftsschutz oder der Naherholungsvorsorge, drängen ökologische Belange stärker in den Vordergrund. Das Positionspapier aus der länderübergreifenden Arbeitsgruppe des ARL-Forums Bayern versteht das multifunktionale Konzept der „Grünen Infrastruktur“ als gewinnbringenden Zugang, um im Alpenraum eine stärkere Koordinationsrolle der räumlichen Planung für freiraumbezogene Planungen und Maßnahmen zu fordern. Denn bislang fallen sie in die Zuständigkeiten verschiedenster Fachressorts und werden oftmals thematisch isoliert betrachtet und behandelt. Gleichzeitig soll damit auch die Akzeptanz staatlicher Nachhaltigkeitsziele sowie der effektive Einsatz öffentlicher Mittel gefördert werden. Das Positionspapier skizziert die Vision eines leistungsfähigen Netzwerks Grüner Infrastruktur im Alpenraum, welches vor allem die ökologische Vernetzung stärkt und sich auf eine rahmengebende Sicherung durch die Raumplanung stützt. Um dies zu erreichen, werden Handlungsempfehlungen bezüglich der Stärkung des rechtlichen Rahmens, der Eignung von Planungsinstrumenten, der Förderung und Finanzierung von Maßnahmen zur Umsetzung der Grünen Infrastruktur, der Stärkung der ressortübergreifenden Zusammenarbeit sowie der Mobilisierung gesellschaftlicher Akteurinnen und Akteure formuliert.
The Alpine region faces particular challenges in implementing the international targets of the Global Biodiversity Framework and the EU Nature Restoration Law. In addition to established components of spatial planning, such as landscape protection or local recreation provision, ecological concerns are increasingly in the spotlight. This position paper from the cross-border working group of the ARL Bavaria Forum considers the multifunctional concept of green infrastructure to be a profitable approach for strengthening the role of spatial planning in the northern Alpine region, specifically with regard to coordinating planning and measures related to open spaces. Such measures and plans have to date been the responsibility of a wide range of specialist departments and are often considered and treated in isolation. At the same time, the intention is also to promote acceptance of government sustainability goals and the effective use of public funds. The position paper outlines a vision of an efficient network of green infrastructure in the Alpine region that, above all, strengthens ecological connectivity and is secured by a spatial planning framework. In order to achieve this, recommendations for action include strengthening the legal framework, ensuring the suitability of planning instruments, promoting and financing measures to implement green infrastructure, strengthening interdepartmental cooperation and mobilising civil social actors.
BeStärken+als gesundheitsfördernder Ansatz von Pflegebedürftigen in der ambulanten Regelversorgung

Die Zahl Pflegebedürftiger (PB), die im häuslichen Umfeld versorgt und therapeutisch betreut werden, steigt. Aufgrund des zunehmenden Fachkräftemangels kann der wachsende Bedarf nicht vollständig gedeckt werden. In der Regelversorgung verankerte Alltagsbegleitende (AB), die Aktivitäten zur Unterstützung im Alltag (AUA) durchführen, könnten im Sinne eines gesundheitsfördernden Ansatzes unterstützen. Im Projekt „BeStärken+“ (Bewegen und Stärken: Gesundheitsförderung in der Alltagsbegleitung) werden AB zu evidenzbasierten Aktivitäten, u.a. Bewegungsübungen, fortgebildet, die sie anschließend mit PB zu Hause umsetzen, um deren Wohlbefinden und Selbstständigkeit zu fördern.
The ageing of Western societies is often viewed as a challenge or even a problem. In this context, digital “solutions” are increasingly promoted as essential components of strategies to address related issues. Nevertheless, projects to develop and implement technology in healthcare and social care frequently fail. One reason for limited adoption or poor fit of these technologies is an insufficient understanding of the social realities and live worlds of older (potential) end users. Participatory approaches to developing technology address this and offer considerable scope. However, they are beset with challenges, such as the “participation dilemma” and the risk of (un-)consciously remaining at a tokenistic level of involvement. Furthermore, issues such as ageism are often relegated to reflexive approaches, where recommendations typically emphasize the need for reflection but lack concrete guidance on the process and systematic strategies to address ageism at structural and individual levels. This contribution addresses that gap by offering a sociohistorical contextualization of ageism and investigating the advantages and challenges associated with participatory approaches in this setting. Additionally, it presents approaches to systematically make ageism transparent and effectively counteract it at structural and individual levels.
Künstliche Intelligenz (KI) hält Einzug in die Sozialwirtschaft – langsam, aber spürbar. In Einrichtungen der Pflege, Jugendhilfe oder Behindertenarbeit eröffnen algorithmische Systeme neue Möglichkeiten: von der Optimierung von Dienstplänen über automatisierte Verwaltungsprozesse bis hin zu KI-gestützter Spracherkennung oder Übersetzungshilfen für die Klient:innenkommunikation (Fraunhofer IAO o. J.). Viele Organisationen experimentieren bereits mit Anwendungen generativer KI wie ChatGPT, meist für unterstützende Aufgaben wie Textgenerierung oder visuelle Gestaltung. Tiefgreifende, systemische KI-Implementierungen sind hingegen noch die Ausnahme.
Drug use disorders (DUDs) are emerging global public health challenges. Here we investigated the global and regional estimates of the prevalence and burden of DUDs, including amphetamine, cannabis, cocaine and opioid use disorders, from 1990 to 2023 for 204 countries and territories by using the Global Burden of Disease Study 2023. Overall, trends in global age-standardized disability-adjusted life-years of DUDs increased from 169.3 (95% uncertainty interval (95% UI), 134.4–203.9) per 100,000 people in 1990 to 212.0 (95% UI, 179.2–245.6) in 2023. In 2023, both prevalence and burden of DUDs were higher in high-income countries, particularly in the USA. The most prevalent DUDs in 2023 were cannabis use disorder (age-standardized prevalence, 270.8 (95% UI, 201.7–350.0) per 100,000 people) and opioid use disorder (205.9 (95% UI, 178.7–235.0)). Particularly, opioid use disorder showed a nearly twofold increase in prevalence and burden between 1990 and 2023. In 2023, compared with countries where cannabis use was illegal, countries permitting both recreational and medical cannabis use had higher prevalence rates for all types of DUDs. Proactive and effective policies are essential to mitigate the increasing global burden of DUDs.
Crowding is a frequently discussed issue in tourism, impacting both visitors and residents of touristic city centers and beyond. Initially, crowding as a subjective construct is examined in detail by taking into account influencing factors as well as negative and positive crowding phenomena. Subsequently, this study examines the relationship between subjective crowding and actual visitor numbers in the town of Füssen in the Allgäu region by investigating the interplay between objective counting data and subjective crowding perceptions with on-site field research. The research employs a mixed-methods approach, combining subjective feedback from visitors via terminals with objective counts from camera sensors. In addition, external factors such as weather and public holidays are taken into account in order to investigate their influence on the perception of crowding using SHAP values. By identifying patterns in crowding perceptions, this study aims to enrich research in this field with new insights from an innovative research approach and to advance the management of visitor flows. Thereby, both tourist experiences and residents’ quality of life in touristic city centers should be enhanced.
The increasing strain of overtourism on popular destinations calls for data-driven strategies that can subtly influence tourist behavior without limiting freedom of choice. This study investigates the use of digital nudges, particularly the decoy effect, within recommender systems to guide visitor flows spatially or temporally. Through a series of focus group-based experiments, this study examines how introducing asymmetrically dominated options can alter destination preferences. The results suggest that spatial steering benefits more consistently from decoy-based interventions than temporal steering. Furthermore, the findings reveal that while nudging has a measurable impact, individual factors and personal preferences play a substantial role in shaping decisions. The study underscores the value of behaviorally informed recommender systems as tools for promoting sustainable tourism by facilitating more balanced visitor flows. It concludes with a call for further development of adaptive, user-aware digital strategies to address the multifaceted nature of tourist decision-making.
Due to their inherent socio-technical nature, the engineering of information systems creates quite distinctive challenges. Addressing them requires not only a deep understanding of technical capabilities, but also of the respective application area, and the behavior of the intended users. Being interdisciplinary by design, the Information Systems field provides a broad tool-set to address these challenges. We are thus delighted to present the proceedings of the 2nd European Symposium on Information Systems Engineering (ESISE), held from September 09 to 11, 2025, in Clervaux, Luxembourg. This symposium brought together researchers and thought leaders to explore the latest advancements and challenges in the field of information systems engineering.
Working with troubles and failures in conversation between humans and robots: workshop report

This paper summarizes the structure and findings from the first Workshop on Troubles and Failures in Conversations between Humans and Robots. The workshop was organized to bring together a small, interdisciplinary group of researchers working on miscommunication from two complementary perspectives. One group of technology-oriented researchers was made up of roboticists, Human-Robot Interaction (HRI) researchers and dialogue system experts. The second group involved experts from conversation analysis, cognitive science, and linguistics. Uniting both groups of researchers is the belief that communication failures between humans and machines need to be taken seriously and that a systematic analysis of such failures may open fruitful avenues in research beyond current practices to improve such systems, including both speech-centric and multimodal interfaces. This workshop represents a starting point for this endeavour. The aim of the workshop was threefold: Firstly, to establish an interdisciplinary network of researchers that share a common interest in investigating communicative failures with a particular view towards robotic speech interfaces; secondly, to gain a partial overview of the “failure landscape” as experienced by roboticists and HRI researchers; and thirdly, to determine the potential for creating a robotic benchmark scenario for testing future speech interfaces with respect to the identified failures. The present article summarizes both the “failure landscape” surveyed during the workshop as well as the outcomes of the attempt to define a benchmark scenario.
