A special feature of the book is its dual-language German and English format. This is intended to make it equally accessible to people working in globally operating companies or those pursuing internationally oriented courses of study
Logistics has become instrumental in determining corporate profitability. However, as yet there exists no clear method that can be drawn on to illustrate the value contribution of logistics decisions and changes for business entities. This book is intended to fill that gap. It describes all value-creating spheres of influence and draws up a logistics business plan that provides a structured plan of action for improving the performance of a logistics system. A concrete case study offers additional suggestions for transferring the findings to the respective company situation. The dual-language format (German-English) is intended to make the book accessible to people working in globally operating companies or those pursuing internationally-oriented courses of study.
The essential problem being analyzed in the present paper is the search for methods to assess or rather measure supply chain flexibility. Due to a multi-dimensional characteristic supply chain flexibility is particularly difficult to analyze and to evaluate with adequate performance measurement instruments as they are often ineffective qualitative frameworks or quantitative metrics that are limited in scope, non-inclusive or not significant enough. The question there-fore is whether there is a construct, a framework or any performance indicator that is capable of measuring supply chain flexibility adequately and that can be a benchmark; or is it necessary to develop an individual tool for a company because of its unique and special prerequisites to assess the flexibility of its supply chains?
Research questions: Attaining competitive advantages is a result of satisfying customer demands with a certain service/product composition. The business process model approach has become popular in order to meet service needs. In addition more and more companies create value along supply chains and the function of logistics becomes part of such a value creation. Collaboration is one major influencing success factor. By adjusting to market changes companies focus on internal processes and costs instead of targeting on customer and supply chain total benefits/costs and especially quality chances. Restructuring business processes therefore is estimated to be under evaluated. IT hereby shows a manifold impact. This value is analyzed and conducted on an ongoing business process redesign project of a logistics service provider (LSP).
Methods: The theoretical part of the paper illustrates the framework of business processes, evaluation, development of redesign techniques and strategies by linking this background to the role of IT with focus on a customer service process. In a second step an equitation model evaluates hypotheses from a LSP and customer perspective in order to formulate innovation potentials targeting the customer collaboration process.
Results: The findings express the need to overcome company borders in supply chains, include partners and use IT tools to develop information quality to raise a final higher customer satisfaction. Companies rely more and more on their networks, while cost and business process programs don´t include relationship and process gains. Especially the impact of rising information quality in the supply chain gives the possibility to evaluate and raise quality developments.
Marketing literature has previously and repeatedly outlined the positive sales effects of displays in food retailing. Therefore, its increasing usage and space allocation is not surprising. Although the promised sales increases of more than 400% should result in even higher usage rates. So the question is if sales and store managers are mismanaging their stores or if a more differentiated evaluation of displays in food retailing necessary. This paper addresses the benefits of displays in food retailing from a holistic perspective, evaluating its overall profitability for stores rather than just sales effects. Additionally it compares displays from a product category’s perspective.
Research questions: E-sourcing platforms offer purchasing organisations often easy access to a high number of relevant suppliers, their goods and services and the according prices. For the suppliers, e-sourcing platforms are a good and easy possibility to present their products and services to the relevant buyers and to get in contact with potential customers. Subject of this research will be the question, whether e-sourcing platforms are also a reasonable marketing tool for suppliers in order to address the buyers with an assimilated marketing mix.
Methods: Guidelined expert interviews were chosen in order to ensure a comparability of the results without keeping the experts from contributing own ideas.
Results: E-sourcing platforms are a proper way for suppliers to market their companies and products in different ways. Thereby the preferred marketing measures differ according to criteria like the company size or the offered services or goods.
