Background
Geriatric rehabilitation aims to maintain the functional reserves of older adults in order to optimize social participation and prevent disability. After discharge from inpatient geriatric rehabilitation, patients are at high risk for decreased physical capacity, increased vulnerability, and limitations in mobility. As a result, ageing in place becomes uncertain for a plethora of patients after discharge from geriatric rehabilitation and effective strategies to prevent physical decline are required. Collaboration between different health-care providers is essential to improve continuity of care after discharge from inpatient geriatric rehabilitation. The aim of this study is to evaluate the effectiveness of a multi-professional home-based intervention program (GeRas) to improve functional capacity and social participation in older persons after discharge from inpatient geriatric rehabilitation.
Methods
The study is a multicenter, three-arm, randomized controlled trial with a three-month intervention period. Two hundred and seventy community-dwelling older people receiving inpatient geriatric rehabilitation will be randomized with a 1:1:1 ratio to one of the parallel intervention groups (conventional IG or tablet IG) or the control group (CG). The participants of both IGs will receive a home-based physical exercise program supervised by physical therapists, a nutritional recommendation by a physician, and social counseling by social workers of the health insurance company. The collaboration between the health-care providers and management of participants will be realized within a cloud environment based on a telemedicine platform and supported by multi-professional case conferences. The CG will receive usual care, two short handouts on general health-related topics, and facultative lifestyle counseling with general recommendations for a healthy diet and active ageing. The primary outcomes will be the physical capacity measured by the Short Physical Performance Battery and social participation assessed by the modified Reintegration to Normal Living Index, three months after discharge.
Discussion
The GeRas program is designed to improve the collaboration between health-care providers in the transition from inpatient geriatric rehabilitation to outpatient settings. Compared to usual care, it is expected to improve physical capacity and participation in geriatric patients after discharge from inpatient geriatric rehabilitation.

We will examine price dependencies between primary products and co-products from metal markets. First, we develop an optimization model to determine the profit-maximizing extraction behavior of mining companies. With this model, we analyze how the companies optimally react to exogenous demand shocks on the metal markets, and how the prices of metallic primary products and their co-products are related to each other. This approach enables us to determine the basic conditions leading to price relationships. Second, we validate our theoretical findings on monthly metal prices from June 2009 to January 2013. We apply a linear regression model to analyze the price relationships of the primary products and their co-products and finally compare the results of our analysis to our model forecasts.
Background
Healthcare professionals around the globe suffered severely during the COVID-19 pandemic. The present study aims to explore the lived experiences of nurses caring for COVID-19 patients in Pakistan.
Methods
The study is a qualitative exploration of the lived experiences caring for patients with COVID-19 in Pakistan. This research was conducted in two government hospitals there. Face-to-face in-depth interviews were conducted amongst 30 nurses who had been selected using purposive sampling technique. Thematic analysis was applied to extract the themes from respondents’ answers.
Results
By using thematic analysis, social response, impacts on physical and mental health, and experience of handling COVID-19 patients were extracted as major themes.
Conclusions
The findings of this research are of immense importance in showing the impact of COVID-19 on mental and physical health, along with the social and personal consequences for nurses providing care to COVID-19 patients.
This paper reports the findings of an online between subject study that investigated the effectiveness of a non-humanoid socially assistive robot in providing positive reinforcement feedback to aid in improving performance on a cognitively demanding task. Four different feedback conditions were used, including verbal, expressive, neutral, and text-based feedback, to identify which type of feedback could positively influence behaviour. Results showed no significant differences in task performance, perceived workload or robot perception.
Developing, testing and validating advanced driver assistance systems and automated driving functions can only be realized to a limited extent in real-world test drives due to a lack of scalability. IPG Automotive and the Kempten University describe an efficient simulation toolchain that enables the seamless integration and exchange of different sensor models and system components.
This study investigated the thermal performance of a packaging solution designed to manage the electrical isolation and cooling of high voltage ( ) SiC power semiconductor > 3300 V devices. The proposed packaging merges the ceramic substrate and the heat exchanger into a single component, streamlining the overall design. Specifically, a novel heat exchanger is developed for a multi-chip module (20 kV), utilizing a combination of jet impingement and channel- flow cooling techniques. Computational fluid dynamics (CFD) simulations and experimental validation are conducted on a multi-chip module to assess the thermal resistance of this new cooling solution. The results demonstrate a
low thermal resistivity of 0.118 cm2K/W, indicating the potential for improved cooling performance in high voltage and power density semiconductor applications.
