We present an approach to feature extraction that is a generalization of the classical linear discriminant analysis (LDA) on the basis of deep neural networks (DNNs). As for LDA, discriminative features generated from independent Gaussian class conditionals are assumed. This modeling has the advantages that the intrinsic dimensionality of the feature space is bounded by the number of classes and that the optimal discriminant function is linear. Unfortunately, linear transformations are insufficient to extract optimal discriminative features from arbitrarily distributed raw measurements. The generalized discriminant analysis (GerDA) proposed in this paper uses nonlinear transformations that are learnt by DNNs in a semisupervised fashion. We show that the feature extraction based on our approach displays excellent performance on real-world recognition and detection tasks, such as handwritten digit recognition and face detection. In a series of experiments, we evaluate GerDA features with respect to dimensionality reduction, visualization, classification, and detection. Moreover, we show that GerDA DNNs can preprocess truly high-dimensional input data to low-dimensional representations that facilitate accurate predictions even if simple linear predictors or measures of similarity are used.
The optimization of full-scale biogas plant operation is of great importance to make biomass a competitive source of renewable energy. The implementation of innovative control and optimization algorithms, such as Nonlinear Model Predictive Control, requires an online estimation of operating states of biogas plants. This state estimation allows for optimal control and operating decisions according to the actual state of a plant. In this paper such a state estimator is developed using a calibrated simulation model of a full-scale biogas plant, which is based on the Anaerobic Digestion Model No.1. The use of advanced pattern recognition methods shows that model states can be predicted from basic online measurements such as biogas production, CH4 and CO2 content in the biogas, pH value and substrate feed volume of known substrates. The machine learning methods used are trained and evaluated using synthetic data created with the biogas plant model simulating over a wide range of possible plant operating regions. Results show that the operating state vector of the modelled anaerobic digestion process can be predicted with an overall accuracy of about 90%. This facilitates the application of state-based optimization and control algorithms on full-scale biogas plants and therefore fosters the production of eco-friendly energy from biomass.
The present study describes the development and validation of a German questionnaire assessing motivation to change in individuals with eating disorders (Stages of Change Questionnaire-Eating Disorders, SOCQ-ED). The SOCQ-ED measures stages of change separately for each eating disorder symptom domain. Psychometric properties were assessed in a sample of N=63 women with Anorexia Nervosa or Bulimia Nervosa. Test-retest reliability ranged from rtt=0.42 to 0.78 (Mdn=0.56), correlations with the University of Rhode Island Change Assessment were between r=0.21 and 0.32 and correlations with measurements of eating pathology ranged from r=0.19 to 0.46. The results provide initial support for the reliability and validity of the SOCQ-ED.

Das Spiel mit Gender entsteht durch eine komplexe Verwebung von intertextuellen und intermedialen Verweisen auf andere Liedtexte, Filme, Gesangstraditionen, Subkulturen etc. Dabei wird vestimentäres Cross-Dressing mit gesanglichem Cross-Dressing kombiniert.

The use of highly expressed FTH1 as carrier protein for cytosolic targeting in Hansenula polymorpha

The iron storage protein ferritin is a member of the non-heme iron protein family. It can store and release iron, therefore it prevents the cell from damage caused by iron-dioxygen reactions as well as it provides iron for biological processing. To study whether the human ferritin heavy chain (FTH1) can be expressed in Hansenula polymorpha, we integrated an expression cassette for FTH1 and analyzed the protein expression. We found very efficient expression of FTH1 and obtained yields up to 1.9 g/L under non-optimized conditions. Based on this result we designed a FTH1-PTH fusion protein to successfully express the parathyroid hormone fragment 1-34 (PTH) for the first time intracellular in H. polymorpha.
The energy topic has become increasingly important in architecture: since buildings are big consumers of energy and architects and the public are interested in energy as never before. [Scognamiglio 2008] The Energy Performance of Building Directive (EPBD) [EU 2010] establishes that starting from 31st December 2020 all new buildings have to be Nearly Zero Energy. The main architectural implication for this condition is that if up until now the domain of design was the building itself, now it is the building and possibly other spaces, that have to be conceived for placing the energy generation devices. Photovoltaics (PV) is particularly suited for reaching the (Nearly) Net ZEB status, due to its technical features, the existing knowledge on how to use PV in buildings, and since it is the easiest and most reliable way to get the (Nearly) Net Zero Energy objectives. [Torcellini 2006] A relevant international effort on the subject of the Net Zero Energy Buildings (Net ZEBs) - Net ZEB meaning that the buildings are connected to an energy infrastructure - is ongoing in the International Energy Agency (IEA), joint Solar Heating and Cooling (SHC) Task 40 and Energy Conservation in Buildings and Community Systems (ECBCS) Annex 52, titled “Towards Net Zero Energy Solar Buildings” [IEA 2008a]. The authors of this paper, all participating in the IEA research group, investigate how the use of PV for Net ZEBs can influence the building’s design, taking into account different building typologies (e. g. new ones vs. existing ones, listed buildings, etc.). Similarities and differences between PV and Solar Thermal (ST) are discussed, too. The paper results in defining some architectural issues for using PV in NZEBs design, which implie to re-think the way buildings are designed.
Net Zero-Energy Buildings (NZEBs) have received increased attention in recent years as a result of constant concerns for energy supply constraints, decreasing energy resources, increasing energy costs and rising impact of greenhouse gases on world climate. Promoting whole, building strategies that employ passive measures with energy efficient systems and technologies using renewable energy, became a European political strategy since the publication of the Energy Performance of Buildings Directive recast in May 2010 by the European Parliament and Council. Designing successful NZEBs however, represents a challenge since the definitions are yet generic assessment method and monitoring approach are under development and the literature is relatively scarce about the best sets of solutions for different typologies and climates likely to deliver an actual and reliable performance in terms of energy balance (consumed vs generated) on a cost-effective basis. Beside this, the lessons learned from already built NZEBs examples are relatively scarce. The authors of this paper, who are participants in the IEA SHC Task 40-ECBCS Annex 52, “Towards Net Zero Energy Solar Buildings”, are willing to share insights from on-going research work on some best practice leading NZEBs residential buildings. Although there is no standard approach for designing a Net Zero-Energy Building (there are many different possible combinations of passive and efficient active measures, utility equipment and on-site energy generation technologies able to achieve the net-zero energy performance), a close examination of the chosen strategies and the relative performance indicators of the selected case studies reveal that it is possible to achieve zero-energy performance using well known strategies adjusted accordingly to balance climate driven-demand for space heating/cooling, lighting, ventilation and others energy uses with climate-driven supply from renewable energy resources.
Der neunte Workshop "Virtuelle und Erweiterte Realität" der Fachgruppe VR/AR der Gesellschaft für Informatik e.V. >> wurde an der FH Düsseldorf vom 19.09. - 20.09.2012 durchgeführt. Dies ist der Tagungsband des neunten Workshops zum Thema "Virtuelle und Erweiterte Realität", die von der Fachgruppe VR/AR der Gesellschaft für Informatik e.V. ins Leben gerufen wurde. Als etablierte Plattform für den Informations- und Ideenaustausch der deutschsprachigen VR/AR-Szene bot der Workshop den idealen Rahmen, aktuelle Ergebnisse und Vorhaben aus Forschung und Entwicklung – auch provokative Ideen – im Kreise eines fachkundigen Publikums zur Diskussion zu stellen. Insbesondere wollten wir auch jungen Nachwuchswissenschaftlern die Möglichkeit geben, ihre Arbeiten zu präsentieren; darunter fielen laufende Promotionsvorhaben oder auch herausragende studentische Arbeiten von Hochschulen und Forschungseinrichtungen. Eine Auswahl der besten Artikel aus dem Workshop werden in einer Sonderausgabe des Journal of Virtual Reality and Broadcasting (JVRB) veröffentlicht.
In this paper we introduce a system for tracking persons walking or standing on a large planar surface and for using the acquired data to easily configure position based interactions for virtual studio productions. The tracking component of the system, radarTRACK, is based on a laser scanner device capable of delivering interaction points on a large configurable plane. By using the device on the floor it is possible to use the delivered data to detect feet positions and derive the position and orientation of one or more users in real time. The second component of the system, named OscCalibrator, allows for the easy creation of multidimensional linear mappings between input and output parameters and the routing of OSC messages within a single modular design environment. We demonstrate the use of our system to flexibly create position-based interactions in a virtual studio environment.
This paper presents a mobile approach of integrating tangible user feedback in today’s virtual TV studio productions. We describe a tangible multitouch planning system, enabling a single user to prepare and customize scene flow and settings. Users can view and interact with virtual objects by using a tangible user interface on a capacitive multitouch surface. In a 2D setting created TV scenes are simultaneously rendered as separate view using a production/target renderer in 3D. Thereby the user experiences a closer reproduction of a final production and set assets can be reused. Subsequently, a user can arrange scenes on a timeline while maintaining different versions/sequences. The system consists of a tablet and a workstation, which does all application processing and rendering. The tablet is just an interface connected via wireless LAN.
This paper presents an approach to integrate non-visual user feedback in today's virtual tv studio productions. Since recent studies showed that systems providing vibro-tactile feedback are not sufficient for replacing the common visual feedback, we developed an audio-based solution using an in ear headphone system, enabling a talent to move, avoid and point to virtual objects in a blue or green box. The system consists of an optical head tracking system, a wireless in ear monitor system and a workstation, which performs all application and audio processing. Using head related transfer functions, the talent gets directional and distance cues. Past research showed, that generating reflections of the sounds and simulating the acoustics of the virtual room helps the listener to conceive the acoustical feedback, we included this technique as well. In a user study with 15 participants the performance of the system was evaluated.
The late immersion of multi-touch sensitive displays enables the use of tangibles on multi-touch screens. There a several wide spread and/or sophisticated solutions to fulfill this need but they seem to have some flaws. One popular system at the time of writing is an overlay frame that can be placed on a normal display with the corresponding size. The frame creates a grid with infrared light emitting diodes. The disruption of this grid can be detected and messages with the positions are sent via usb to a connected computer. This system is quite robust in matters of ambient light insensitivity and also fast to calibrate. Unfortunately it is not created with the recognition of tangibles in mind and printed patterns can not be resolved. This article summarizes an attempt to create fiducials that are recognized by an infrared multi-touch frame as fingers. Those false fingers are checked by a software for known patterns. Once a known pattern (= fiducial) has been recognized its position and orientation are send with the finger positions towards the interactive software. The usability is tested with an example application where tangibles and finger touches are used in combination.
Considering legal aspects during software development is a challenging problem, due to the cross-disciplinary expertise required. The problem is even more complex for cloud computing systems, because of the international distribution, huge amounts of processed data, and a large number of stakeholders that own or process the data. Approaches exist to deal with parts of the problem, but they are isolated from each other. We present an integrated method for elicitation of legal requirements. A cloud computing online banking scenario illustrates the application of our methods. The running example deals with the problem of storing personal information in the cloud and based upon the BDSG (German Federal Data Protection Act). We describe the structure of the online banking cloud system using an existing pattern-based approach. The elicited information is further refined and processed into functional requirements for software development. Moreover, our method covers the analysis of security-relevant concepts such as assets and attackers particularly with regard to laws. The requirements artifacts then serve as inputs for existing patterns for the identification of laws relevant for the online banking cloud system. Finally, our method helps to systematically derive functional as well as security requirements that realize the previously identified laws.
The discipline of engineering secure software and services brings together researchers and practitioners from software, services, and security engineering. This interdisciplinary community is fairly new, it is still not well integrated and is therefore confronted with differing perspectives, processes, methods, tools, vocabularies, and standards. We present a Common Body of Knowledge (CBK) to overcome the aforementioned problems. We capture use cases from research and practice to derive requirements for the CBK. Our CBK collects, integrates, and structures knowledge from the different disciplines based on an ontology that allows one to semantically enrich content to be able to query the CBK. The CBK heavily relies on user participation, making use of the Semantic MediaWiki as a platform to support collaborative writing. The ontology is complemented by a conceptual framework, consisting of concepts to structure the knowledge and to provide access to it, and a means to build a common terminology. We also present organizational factors covering dissemination and quality assurance.
An ISO 27001 compliant information security management system is difficult to create, due to the the limited support for system development and documentation provided in the standard. We present a structured analysis of the documentation and development requirements in the ISO 27001 standard. Moreover, we investigate to what extent existing security requirements engineering approaches fulfill these requirements. We developed relations between these approaches and the ISO 27001 standard using a conceptual framework originally developed for comparing security requirements engineering methods. The relations include comparisons of important terms, techniques, and documentation artifacts. In addition, we show practical applications of our results.
In dieser Bachelor-Thesis werden die Möglichkeiten eines Remote-Zugriffs auf die Prozessdaten einer Siemens SIMATIC speicherprogrammierbaren Steuerung (SPS) untersucht. Der Schwerpunkt liegt auf der Interaktion mit Prozessdaten über ein mobiles Android-Gerät unter Nutzung der WLAN-Schnittstelle. Als praktischer Teil der Thesis steht daher die Entwicklung einer Android-Applikation zum Erstellen, Editieren und Ausführen grafischer Oberflächen, welche Prozessdaten anschaulich über Anzeigeelemente darstellen und eine Interaktion mit dem Anwender über Bedienelemente auf dem Bildschirm des mobilen Geräts ermöglichen. Hierzu geht die Thesis zu Beginn auf die grundlegenden Strukturen eines SIMATIC Automatisierungssystems hinsichtlich Hardware- und Softwarekomponenten sowie auf bestehende Remote-Zugriffsmöglichkeiten ein. Diese werden mit der App-Lösung verglichen und Vor- und Nachteile evaluiert. Anschließend werden die verwendete Kommunikationsbibliothek Libnodave und ein Abriss über das Android-Framework gegeben. Diese Technologien bilden die Grundlage zur Entwicklung eigener Applikationen zur Interaktion mit der SIMATIC Automatisierungshardware. Mit der Untersuchung des Softwareentwicklungsprozesses und der Funktionsbeschreibung der entwickelten Applikation AndroHmiS7 wird die Anwendung der erarbeiteten Themen gegeben.
Ein wichtiger Bestandteil im heutigen deutschen Gesundheitssystem sind die gesetzlichen Vorgaben zu Qualitätssicherungsmaßnahmen der Leistungserbringer im Rahmen des § 135a des Sozialgesetzbuches V. Ziel aller Qualitätssicherungsmaßnahmen soll sein, letztlich die Ergebnisqualität zu verbessern. Als zentrales Problem bei der Bestimmung von Qualität nicht nur im Rahmen der Kinder- und Jugendpsychiatrie zeigt sich die Tatsache, dass zur Beurteilung von Zuständen und ihrer Veränderung keine standardisieren Parameter wie in der somatischen Medizin vorliegen. Daraus folgt, dass für eine objektive Einschätzung den subjektiven Aussagen der Betroffenen mehr Gewicht beigemessen werden muss. Da ein „Therapieerfolg“ bei seelischem Leiden bisher nur individuell bestimmt werden kann, bietet sich für die Forschung die Erfassung einer subjektiven Zufriedenheit an. Auf der Basis einer qualitativ-empirischen Sozialforschung in Form eines strukturierten Eltern-Interviews wurde die Zufriedenheit mit der Behandlung des Kindes erfasst. Die Untersuchung wurde im Rahmen eines zweisemestrigen kooperativen Forschungsprojekts des Fachbereichs Sozial- und Kulturwissenschaften der Fachhochschule Düsseldorf mit der Abteilung Kinder- und Jugendlichenpsychiatrie der Tagesklinik Krefeld durchgeführt.
Diese Arbeit befasst sich mit der Entwicklung eines Messplatzes zur Erfassung von Körperschallemissionen eines technischen Systems. Der Leser dieser Arbeit soll einen Einblick in die physikalischen und normativen Grundlagen einer Körperschalluntersuchung erhalten. Er soll weiterhin in die Lage versetzt werden, den entwickelten Messplatz zu verstehen und eigenständig Prüfungen durchzuführen.
