The method is called Exploring Generative Logic (EGL). The method is based on the concept of Generative Logic. Both methods are under development at the Faculty of Design, HSD, University of Applied Sciences, Düsseldorf. The basic idea of teaching Prolog with EGL is to present Prolog not as “another” programming language, but primarily as a logic AI. This perspective helps beginners gain a clear view of how Prolog works and focuses on understanding Prolog as a powerful generative AI, making it highly attractive in the domain of art and design. The author assumes that the EGL method can be easily adapted to other educational settings: education of non-programmers of all ages, including children in elementary or secondary schools, as well as students in other non-STEM curricula, to develop skills in logical thinking, digital literacy, AI literacy, and artistic literacy. The focus is laid on indoor soundscapes and the interplay between acoustic measures, individual differences, and contextual factors. A retrospective online study and a field study at peoples’ homes based on the Experience Sampling Method were the ecologically valid ground truth for four key publications. These address significant gaps in soundscape research by providing insights into the factors influencing sound perception in real-life contexts, the evaluation of low-level (i.e., quiet) sounds, and the consequences of (in)appropriate statistical analysis of imbalanced hierarchical soundscape data. The studies reveal that the sound source category is a critical predictor of annoyance and the pleasantness of soundscapes, with different types of sounds (e.g., natural, human, technical) having distinct impacts. Contrary, the effect of acoustic measures like perceived and calculated loudness on sound perception was expected to be high but was masked by contextual factors. These were the perceived control over the acoustic situation and the affective state of a person in the specific situation, proving context-related perceptual measures to be more important than the sound itself. The research consequently highlights the need for automatic sound source identification in complex polyphony everyday sound environments and suggests that individual preferences and liking of sounds could be potential factors in predicting individual sound perception. The dissertation also emphasizes the importance of using appropriate statistical methods, including mixed-effects models and nonlinear regression techniques, to generate more generalizable and more valid results based on hierarchical and imbalanced soundscape data. The findings underscore the limitations of traditional acoustic metrics and advocate for the use of time-series data to better capture the dynamic nature of everyday sound environments in contrast to stimuli typically used in laboratory studies. The author further developed a multi-objective function for avoiding both over- and underfitting during hyperparameter tuning, significantly improving generalized model fitting in soundscape research. Overall, this work contributes to the field of soundscape research by providing a comprehensive analysis of sound perception in indoor environments, highlighting the importance of context, individual differences, and advanced statistical methods in understanding and modeling soundscapes. Finally, future perspectives were discussed, such as the focus on individual preferences, experiences, and expectations for the improved prediction of individual sound perception. Der Schwerpunkt liegt dabei auf der Geräuschkulisse in Innenräumen und dem Zusammenspiel von (psycho-)akustischen Messgrößen, individuellen Unterschieden und kontextuellen Faktoren. Eine retrospektive Online-Studie und eine Feldstudie in Wohnräumen der Probanden bildeten die ökologisch valide Grundlage der vier Schlüsselpublikationen. Diese untersuchen Faktoren, die die Geräuschwahrnehmung in realen Kontexten beeinflussen, indem sie die Bewertung von Geräuschen und die Folgen einer (un-)angemessenen statistischen Analyse von unausgewogenen hierarchischen Soundscape-Daten betrachten. Die Studien zeigen, dass die Kategorie der Geräuschquelle ein entscheidender Prädiktor für die Belästigung und die Angenehmheit ist. Entgegen der Erwartung, dass akustische Messgrößen wie die wahrgenommene und berechnete Lautheit einen großen Einfluss auf die Geräuschwahrnehmung haben, zeigte sich jedoch, dass diese durch kontextbezogene Faktoren maskiert wurde. Dabei handelte es sich um die empfundene Kontrolle über die akustische Situation und den emotionalen Zustand einer Person in der spezifischen Situation, wobei sich kontextbezogene Wahrnehmungsmaße als wichtiger erwiesen als das Umgebungsgeräusch selbst. Die Untersuchung unterstreicht folglich die Notwendigkeit einer automatischen Identifizierung von Geräuschquellen in komplexen polyphonen alltäglichen Geräuschumgebungen und legt nahe, dass individuelle Vorlieben für bestimmte Klänge wichtige Faktoren bei der Vorhersage der individuellen Geräuschwahrnehmung sein könnten. Die Dissertation unterstreicht zusätzlich die Bedeutung der Verwendung geeigneter statistischer Methoden, einschließlich Modellen mit gemischten Effekten und nichtlinearen Regressionstechniken, um verallgemeinerungsfähigere Ergebnisse auf der Grundlage hierarchischer und unausgewogener Daten von Soundscape-Studien zu erzielen. Die Ergebnisse zeigen zudem die Grenzen akustischer und psychoakustischer Metriken auf und implizieren die Verwendung von Zeitreihendaten, um die dynamische Natur alltäglicher Geräuschumgebungen besser zu repräsentieren. Darüber hinaus entwickelte der Autor eine Mehrzieloptimierung zur Vermeidung von Über- und Unteranpassung beim Hyperparametertuning, wodurch die Anpassung verallgemeinerbarer Modelle erheblich verbessert wird. Insgesamt leistet diese Arbeit einen wesentlichen Beitrag, indem sie eine umfassende Analyse der Geräuschwahrnehmung in Innenräumen liefert und die Bedeutung von Kontext, individuellen Unterschieden und angemessenen statistischen Methoden für das Verständnis und die Modellierung von Soundscapes hervorhebt. Abschließend werden mögliche Zukunftsperspektiven erörtert, wie z. Rituals are also common in obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD). In contrast to OCD, the proposed associations between rituals and intrusive thoughts/appearance preoccupation have not been empirically investigated for BDD. We examined if the assumed effect of gazing rituals on attractiveness ratings exists and if it is associated with dissociation. In an experiment, we asked N = 65 non-clinical females to focus on the nose of a photographed face at pre- and post-test. In between, participants gazed at the nose of either the same (relevant gazing) or another face (irrelevant gazing). We found increasing dissociation after gazing in both conditions and a differentially stronger decrease of attractiveness ratings in the relevant gazing condition. Our findings support the hypothesized effect of gazing rituals on attractiveness evaluation in cognitive-behavioral models for BDD. Taking into account the energy exchange with a grid overcomes the limitations of energy-autonomous buildings with the need for seasonal energy storage on-site. Although the expression, “Net Zero-Energy Building,” appears in many energy policy documents, a harmonised definition or a standardised balancing method is still lacking. This paper reports on the background and the various effects influencing the energy balance approach. After discussing the national energy code framework in Germany, a harmonised terminology and balancing procedure is proposed. The procedure takes not only the energy balance but also energy efficiency and load matching into account. To date, this field has been dominated by impact studies. After illustrating the blind spots that are created by taking this research approach to the practice of drama education, we will present the user research perspective and look at the opportunities that it provides to generate new, differentiated knowledge. User research makes it possible to illuminate the processes of acquiring and using knowledge in terms of its delivery. It also provides a potential framework of analysis for placing these processes in the delivery context, which includes subjective learning types, relevance and institutional and social conditions. This expanded perspective will make it possible to identify the factors that foster and limit benefits and reflect them in practice. N2 - In diesem Beitrag stehen die Potenziale und Grenzen der Nutzerforschung für die Erforschung theaterpädagogischer Praxis im Zentrum. Dabei wird unter Rückgriff auf die Wirkungsforschung, die bisher dieses Forschungsfeld dominiert, zunächst deutlich gemacht, welche „Blindstellen“ diese Forschungsperspektive für die theaterpädagogische Praxis birgt. This setup is compared and mapped to Milgram’s continuum and technical challenges are described. T1 - Formation of anthropogenic secondary organic aerosol (SOA) and its influence on biogenic SOA properties JF - Atmospheric Chemistry and Physics N2 - Abstract. Secondary organic aerosol (SOA) formation from mixed anthropogenic and biogenic precursors has been studied exposing reaction mixtures to natural sunlight in the SAPHIR chamber in Jülich, Germany. In this study aromatic compounds served as examples of anthropogenic volatile organic compound (VOC) and a mixture of α-pinene and limonene as an example for biogenic VOC. Several experiments with exclusively aromatic precursors were performed to establish a relationship between yield and organic aerosol mass loading for the atmospheric relevant range of aerosol loads of 0.01 to 10 μg m−3. The yields (0.5 to 9%) were comparable to previous data and further used for the detailed evaluation of the mixed biogenic and anthropogenic experiments. For the mixed experiments a number of different oxidation schemes were addressed. The reactivity, the sequence of addition, and the amount of the precursors influenced the SOA properties. Monoterpene oxidation products, including carboxylic acids and dimer esters were identified in the aged aerosol at levels comparable to ambient air. OH radicals were measured by Laser Induced Fluorescence, which allowed for establishing relations of aerosol properties and composition to the experimental OH dose. Furthermore, the OH measurements in combination with the derived yields for aromatic SOA enabled application of a simplified model to calculate the chemical turnover of the aromatic precursor and corresponding anthropogenic contribution to the mixed aerosol. The estimated anthropogenic contributions were ranging from small (≈8%) up to significant fraction (50%) providing a suitable range to study the effect of aerosol composition on the aerosol volatility (volume fraction remaining (VFR) at 343 K: 0.86–0.94). The aromatic aerosol had higher oxygen to carbon ratio O/C and was less volatile than the biogenic fraction. However, in order to produce significant amount of aromatic SOA the reaction mixtures needed a higher OH dose that also increased O/C and provided a less volatile aerosol. The SOA yields, O/C, and f44 (the mass fraction of CO2+ ions in the mass spectra which can be considered as a measure of carboxylic groups) in the mixed photo-chemical experiments could be described as linear combinations of the corresponding properties of the pure systems. For VFR there was in addition an enhancement effect, making the mixed aerosol significantly less volatile than what could be predicted from the pure systems. A strong positive correlation was found between changes in volatility and O/C with the exception during dark hours where the SOA volatility decreased while O/C did not change significantly. Thus, this change in volatility under dark conditions as well as the anthropogenic enhancement is due to chemical or morphological changes not affecting O/C. The aim of forecasting is to determine future demand based on data from the past. The use of a specific method is not always easy and depends on a number of factors. To help prospective engineers find the most suitable forecasting method for a specific problem, a forecasting game was developed and then evaluated. The paper describes the design and the evaluation of the forecasting game. In order to provide an overview of existing forecasting methods, the first part of the paper examined the mathematical fundamentals of eight different forecasting methods and outlined the requirements for their application. The second part of the paper describes the creation of a forecasting game in which prospective engineers can learn how to determine the appropriate forecasting method for specific scenarios. In total, five scenarios covering the three different demand patterns (linear/stationary, trend and seasonal) as well as the forecast quality methods were developed and can be played through. For each scenario, the player has to choose the most appropriate forecasting method for a specific problem based on a self-created task description. To make the game as realistic as possible, a fictional company with a background story was designed. The last part was about the evaluation of the forecasting game. For the evaluation, a student survey to gather the opinions of the students was conducted. The results of the student survey show an overall positive evaluation of the simulation game by the students. However, the test also showed that the game takes a certain amount of time. Since only 15 of the approximately 30 students who tested the game participated in the evaluation, the results are not significant. This paper investigates for the first time the background to and the process of ‘residential segregation’ in this region. High demands of electric power led to bigger systems and active cooling reduces the overall efficiency of the turbines. Passive cooling systems have been examined for the first time for a gearless wind energy generator with power range of 3–12 MW. With further developed heat conductors, it is possible to operate a wind generator in a larger power class with passive cooling components. This is accompanied by enormous cost savings due to elimination of costs for active cooling elements such as the use of fans, pumps, and heat exchangers. An additional factor is the significant reduction in necessary maintenance due to the minimized incidence of corrosion and wear. Design of the cooling fins and an ideal position of the generator within the housing of the wind turbine has been objectives. Mandatory is that maximum temperatures of the generator fins should stay under 155 °C, which could be reached with several designs for different heat exchanger geometries. Derived from a comprehensive survey of 4207 scientists at German universities and research institutions, animosity towards scientists during the pandemic has created a sense of insecurity that may cause them to withdraw from the public eye. Depending on the relative strength of two cognitive appraisals, the severity of the threat and the appropriateness of the retreat option, the likelihood of respondents engaging with the public varies significantly. It supports random effects evaluation (including random slopes) for both linear and non-linear regressors, providing broad applicability to different experiments and research questions.flexcv quickly allows to perform nested cross-validation on a variety of models for comparison with each other. On the one hand, the implementation of a flexible interface simplifies the exchange of methods in the script, allowing researchers to change cross-validation methods without having to touch the actual cross-validation code. The state of turbulence is defined by a κ–ϵ model. Near solid boundaries, a wall function approach is employed. The combustion rates are estimated using the eddy dissipation concept. A velocity–pressure formulation is employed. The momentum and continuity equations are solved using a segregated algorithm. Two turbulence models, namely the standard κ–ε model and the algebraic stress model, are considered. It is shown that the algebraic stress model leads to significantly more accurate results in swirling flows compared to the κ–ε model. A novel way of implementing the algebraic stress model is presented in which the stresses are coupled to the Navier–Stokes equations in such a way that they ‘correct’ the effective viscosity hypothesis. This formulation seems to provide a convenient approach for finite elements. In deriving the discretization equations, a streamline‐upwind/Petrov–Galerkin method is employed. Comparisons performed between various upwind schemes show that the numerical solution may be substantially affected by the particular upwind procedure used. The analysis is extended to the prediction of particle motion in turbulent swirling flow fields. Here the fluid turbulence is modelled adopting a stochastic approach. The influence of turbulence modelling on particle movement is investigated. The most common approach consists of dispersing small particles of dry ice, silver iodide, or other salts in the atmosphere. Here we show, using field experiments conducted under various atmospheric conditions, that laser filaments can induce water condensation and fast droplet growth up to several μm in diameter in the atmosphere as soon as the relative humidity exceeds 70%. We propose that this effect relies mainly on photochemical formation of p.p.m.-range concentrations of hygroscopic Hno3, allowing efficient binary Hno3–H2o condensation in the laser filaments. Thermodynamic, as well as kinetic, numerical modelling based on this scenario semiquantitatively reproduces the experimental results, suggesting that particle stabilization by Hno3 has a substantial role in the laser-induced condensation. As for LDA, discriminative features generated from independent Gaussian class conditionals are assumed. This modeling has the advantages that the intrinsic dimensionality of the feature space is bounded by the number of classes and that the optimal discriminant function is linear. Unfortunately, linear transformations are insufficient to extract optimal discriminative features from arbitrarily distributed raw measurements. The generalized discriminant analysis (GerDA) proposed in this paper uses nonlinear transformations that are learnt by DNNs in a semisupervised fashion. We show that the feature extraction based on our approach displays excellent performance on real-world recognition and detection tasks, such as handwritten digit recognition and face detection. In a series of experiments, we evaluate GerDA features with respect to dimensionality reduction, visualization, classification, and detection. Moreover, we show that GerDA DNNs can preprocess truly high-dimensional input data to low-dimensional representations that facilitate accurate predictions even if simple linear predictors or measures of similarity are used. Theorisation has delved into the types of leadership and, more recently, the activities performed by leaders. However, comparative research on leadership and detection of any changes over time is scant. Our paper attends to these tasks by looking at the activities of two German-speaking far-right leaders. For many years, Christian Worch was one of the most active and influential neo-Nazi leaders in Germany, communicating much of his activity and strategy in the mid-2000s through a regular circular (Rundbriefe). Similarly, Martin Sellner, both as leader of the Identitarian movement and independent activist, today exercises an outsized role in the German-speaking far-right scene, including through his regular publications in the magazines Compact and Sezession. Our paper uses data of Worch’s and Sellner’s writings, scraped from webpages and gathered from archives, in a mixed-methods comparative design to identify the tasks performed by these leaders, and how frequently. Quantitative text analysis techniques guide the qualitative evaluation of leaders’ activities and reveal shifts – and continuities – in far-right movement leadership. The paper thereby contributes to scholarship on an important aspect of contemporary far-right movements as well as broader social movement literature on the topic of leadership. In a theoretical model of an internationally fragmented digital good's production process, we show that fairness considerations of tax authorities (namely inequity aversion) can result in a falling apart between a perceived "fair" and arm's length distribution of profits across tax jurisdictions. Our model predicts that a multinational firm follows the fundamental paradigm of international taxation, i.e. the arm's length principle, to properly incentivize internal agents involved in the production of a digital good. However, with inequity averse tax authorities, we find that tax authorities "prefer" a more equal distribution of profits compared to the arm's length allocation. From a multinational firm's perspective, inequity aversion among tax authorities dampens the strategic effect to - in accordance with arm's length principle - shift profits to low tax countries. Unser Modell sagt voraus, dass eines multinationales Unternehmen dem fundamentalen Paradigma der internationalen Besteuerung, d.h. dem Fremdvergleichsgrundsatz folgt, um firmenintern effiziente Anreize zur Produktion des digitalen Gutes zu setzen. Ungleichheitsaversion auf Seiten der Steuerbehörden führt allerdings dazu, dass die Steuerbehörden eine gleichmäßigere Verteilung der Gewinne im Vergleich zum Fremdvergleichsgrundsatz bevorzugen. Aus Sicht eines multinationalen Unternehmens dämpft die Ungleichheitsaversion der Steuerbehörden den strategischen Anreiz Gewinne in Niedrigsteuerländer zu verlagern. September 2022 N2 - Enforced by the pandemic, the production of videos in educational settings and their availability on learning platforms allow new forms of video-based learning. This has a strong benefit of covering multiple topics with different design styles and facilitating the learning experience. Consequently, research interest in video-based learning has increased remarkably, with many studies focusing on examining the diverse visual properties of videos and their impact on learner engagement and knowledge gain. However, manually analysing educational videos to collect metadata and to classify videos for quality assessment is a time-consuming activity. In this paper, we address the problem of automatic video feature extraction related to video production design. To this end, we introduce a novel use case for object detection models to recognize the human embodiment and the type of teaching media used in the video. The results obtained on a small-scale custom dataset show the potential of deep learning models for visual video analysis. This will allow for future use in developing an automatic video assessment system to reduce the workload for teachers and researchers. Therefore, we conducted a study based on the Experience Sampling Method to measure the relative contribution of a broad range of potentially relevant acoustic and non‐auditory variables in predicting indoor soundscape evaluations. Here we present the comprehensive dataset for which 105 participants reported temporally (rather) stable trait variables such as noise sensitivity, trait affect, and quality of life. They rated 6.594 situations regarding the soundscape standard dimensions, perceived loudness, and the saliency of its sound components and evaluated situational variables such as state affect, perceived control, activity, and location. To complement these subject‐centered data, we additionally crowdsourced object‐centered data by having participants make binaural measurements of each indoor soundscape at their homes using a low‐(self‐)noise recorder. These recordings were used to compute (psycho‐)acoustical indices such as the energetically averaged loudness level, the A‐weighted energetically averaged equivalent continuous sound pressure level, and the A‐weighted five‐percent exceedance level. This complex hierarchical data can be used to investigate time‐varying non‐auditory influences on sound perception and to develop soundscape indicators based on the binaural recordings to predict soundscape evaluations.
