Experiments were performed for rotational speeds corresponding to the rotation parameter ζ in the range of 527 ≤ ζ ≤ 2860, maintaining the heat flux of the heated stationary inner cylinder as 80 W/m2, for radius ratio (η) and aspect ratio of the vertical annulus being 0.614 and 0.052, respectively. The problem was investigated numerically using the commercial computational fluid dynamics package, ANSYS CFX. The numerical methodology has been validated by comparing the numerically predicted average surface Nusselt number with experimentally obtained values. The comparison revealed an enhancement of the thermal performance of the heated stationary inner cylinder in the range 527 ≤ ζ ≤ 1190 due to the increase in turbulence intensity towards the heated inner cylinder. However, when the rotation parameter was increased further in the range 1190 ≤ ζ ≤ 2860, the thermal performance of the stationary heated inner cylinder showed only marginal improvement. The aforementioned thermal behavior of the inner heated stationary cylinder has been explored based on the flow statistics gathered from the numerical simulations. Furthermore, the parametric impact with different chimney divergence angles (CDA, ϕ), and ground absorber slope angle (GSA, γ) on the SCPP performance is also scrutinized. Optimum divergence angle (ϕ=+0.75◦) enhances the power generation up to ~ 47% (76 kW) with a horizontal ground absorber surface. An increase or decrease in CDA lessens the power generation. With a sloped ground absorber angle γ=0.6◦, the gain in power generation is 60% (82 kW). The study of combination of ground sloped absorber (γ=0.6◦) and divergent chimney (ϕ=+0.75◦) shows enhancement of the power generation upto 80% (92 kW) more than the classical Manzaranes plant. [Vortrag] T2 - Fortschritte der Akustik - DAGA 2024, 18. - 21. März 2024, Hannover N2 - The Lombard Effect and its impact on human speech production, also known as ‘Lombard Speech’, have been investigated in numerous scientific studies. It is known that the intensity, but also the type of background noise can affect Lombard Speech. By contrast, the potential effect of a gradual reduction of the amplitude of the background noise has received little attention in previous research. To test for such an effect, we split 34 participants into couples and had them orally compare images. In the experimental condition, there was background noise (masker) whose amplitude was reduced from 70 to 50 dB(A) over a period of 100 seconds. Measures of speech production after this decay were compared to those of a reference condition in which the masker was constantly at 50 dB(A). We hypothesized that speech production due to prior exposure to a louder masker would show a stronger expression of Lombard Speech in the experimental compared to the reference condition. The results showed a significant difference regarding the level of the first formant F1 across conditions, but not regarding the overall dB(A) level. However, tendencies could be identified, which can serve as a basis for further investigations. JF - The Journal of the Acoustical Society of America N2 - Credibility is a crucial social factor that influences people's perception and decision-making. This study explores the acoustic attributes that define credible speech compared to neutral and ironic speech. A custom-built German corpus was developed, containing speech samples recorded from amateurs to enhance ecological validity. The study extracted a broad set of audio features from these samples, employing recursive feature elimination to identify the most influential attributes. These were then analyzed using a machine-learning-supported multinomial logistic regression model. The results indicated significant differences in the acoustic features associated with credible speech compared to neutral and ironic speech. Key findings include the role of a higher energy level (1st mel-frequency cepstral coefficient) in credible compared to neutral and ironic speech and a higher speaking rate in both credible and ironic compared to neutral speech. Also, irony is characterized by more high-frequency content (mean spectral centroid) compared to credible or neutral speech. Gender differences in spoken irony involve a greater influence of speaking rate in women's speech, while high pitch plays a more significant role in men's speech. This research thus contributes to the understanding of how credibility is conveyed through speech and offers insights for applications in communication, media, and artificial intelligence. The study also highlights the methodological advancements made by incorporating a diverse range of acoustic features and employing a robust machine-learning framework.
