This study aims to investigate the understanding and implementation of participation and co-creation in the development of hybrid interaction technologies in healthcare. Eight interdisciplinary research projects were examined through semi-structured group interviews with 49 participants from academia, industry, and the application field. The interviews focused on participants' perspectives on project goals, user groups, access to the field, methods of participation and co-creation, and user motivation. The results highlight the diverse understandings of participation and co-creation, with some perceiving them as research-driven and others as already embedded in user- centered design. The projects emphasized user needs but often excluded stakeholders from collaborative decision-making. Challenges in achieving continuous involvement and co-decision were acknowledged. The findings underscore the need for reflexive practice and evaluation of participation and co-creation throughout the development process, as well as further research on participation across projects. By addressing these challenges and embracing participatory approaches, digital health applications can better address ethical concerns, build trust, and increase acceptance and adoption in the healthcare sector. These methodologies are seen as crucial to adapt technology design to older people's needs and increase their acceptance of digital technology. Nevertheless, it is often difficult to reach a diverse group of older people, for instance, people with limited technology skills, limited mobility, or cognitive issues. In addition, gerontologists criticized lately how older people's participation unfolds in technology design projects, e.g. that people are pushed into the role of users. Little is known about the motivations and needs of older adults regarding their participation in HCI research. To close this gap, we conducted an online survey (N=46) and semi-structured interviews (N=8) focusing on motivations, willingness and experiences regarding participation. Results show that people are generally willing to participate due to interest in the topic, learning new things and social bonding. However, despite the conceptions within HCI that long-term engagement is crucial within participatory design, older people in the study preferred less commitment and more open formats. Tangible user interfaces provide an opportunity to connect these people to social media, thereby increasing their digital participation in society and reducing loneliness. In this paper, we discuss the challenges of intergenerational communication and research the opportunities affiliated with tangible technologies to overcome technology barriers for adults of high ages. We present a hybrid system for social media interactions between young smartphone users and their old relatives, who do not use mobile technologies. The system consists of a tangible user interface designed specifically for old adults that connects to a standard mobile messenger service. TAMI was designed in a user-centered process to fulfill the needs of older adults and tested in a longer-term field study with pairs of young and old relatives. These parameters intend to represent perceptual qualities, but were developed without a consistent modeling of room acoustical perception. More recent research proposed comprehensive inventories of room acoustic perception that are purely based on evaluations by human subjects, such as the Room Acoustical Quality Index (RAQI). In this work RA-QI scores acquired for 70 room impulse responses were predicted from room acoustical parameters. Except for Reverberance, the prediction of RAQI factors performed rather poor. In most cases, the sound source had a greater impact on RAQI scores. All analyses are published in an online tool, where users can upload omnidirectional and binaural impulse responses, and instantly obtain and visualize several physical descriptors, as well as predicted RAQI scores for three different sound sources. So far, acceptable prediction accuracy is achieved for Reverberance, Strength, Irregular Decay, Clarity and Intimacy. Larger data sets of evaluated impulse responses are required to improve the model performance and enable reliable predictions of room acoustical quality. Therefore, we conducted a study based on the Experience Sampling Method to measure the relative contribution of a broad range of potentially relevant acoustic and non‐auditory variables in predicting indoor soundscape evaluations. Here we present the comprehensive dataset for which 105 participants reported temporally (rather) stable trait variables such as noise sensitivity, trait affect, and quality of life. They rated 6.594 situations regarding the soundscape standard dimensions, perceived loudness, and the saliency of its sound components and evaluated situational variables such as state affect, perceived control, activity, and location. To complement these subject‐centered data, we additionally crowdsourced object‐centered data by having participants make binaural measurements of each indoor soundscape at their homes using a low‐(self‐)noise recorder. These recordings were used to compute (psycho‐)acoustical indices such as the energetically averaged loudness level, the A‐weighted energetically averaged equivalent continuous sound pressure level, and the A‐weighted five‐percent exceedance level. This complex hierarchical data can be used to investigate time‐varying non‐auditory influences on sound perception and to develop soundscape indicators based on the binaural recordings to predict soundscape evaluations. Dafür wurde die Arbeitshypothese angenommen, dass ein positiv gestaltetes Sounddesign bei den Zuschauenden zu mehr positiven Emotionen, höherer Empathie und positiver Handlungserwartung führt, während ein negatives Sounddesign zu negativeren Emotionen, geringerer Empathie und negativer Handlungserwartung führt. Zunächst werden in dem theoretischen Teil der Arbeit das Sounddesign und seine Rolle im Film betrachtet, gefolgt von der Untersuchung der Auswirkungen von Ton auf die menschliche Wahrnehmung, sowie einer Darstellung der Grundlagen von Emotion, Empathie und Antizipation. Um die Forschungsfrage zu beantworten und die Arbeitshypothesen zu überprüfen, wurde eine quantitative Studie mittels Online-Umfrage durchgeführt, in der die Teilnehmenden zwei Filmausschnitte zu sehen bekamen. Die Teilnehmenden wurden dabei in zwei Gruppen mit jeweils positivem bzw. negativem Sounddesign aufgeteilt. Der Einfluss auf die wahrgenommenen Emotionen, Empathie und die antizipierte Handlung wurde anschließend mittels eines Fragebogens erhoben und statistisch ausgewertet. Es wurde festgestellt, dass das Sounddesign teilweise deutliche Effekte auf wahrgenommene Emotionen hatte, insbesondere auf negative Emotionen. Es waren ebenfalls Tendenzen in Bezug auf Empathie und Antizipation erkennbar, die darauf hinwiesen, dass Sounddesign diese Bereiche beeinflusste. Eine zusätzliche Untersuchung des Einflusses von Audiogeräten auf die Stärke der ermittelten Effekte zeigte, dass Kopfhörer/Lautsprecher im Vergleich zu Handy-/Laptoplautsprechern zu einem stärkeren Effekt des Sounddesigns führen konnten. Diese Arbeit kann zusammenfassend feststellen, dass ein Einfluss von Sounddesign auf Emotion, Empathie und Handlungsantizipation anzunehmen ist. N2 - This bachelor thesis examines the question of what influence sound design has on the perception of emotion, empathy, and anticipation when consuming films. The working hypothesis is that a positive sound design leads to more positive emotions, higher empathy, and the anticipation of a positive plot, while a negative sound design leads to more negative emotions, lower empathy, and the anticipation of a negative plot. The theoretical part of the paper looks at sound design and its role in film, followed by an examination of the effects of sound on human perception, as well as a presentation of the basic concepts of emotion, empathy, and anticipation. To answer the research question and verify the working hypotheses, a quantitative study was conducted by means of an online survey in which participants were given two film clips to watch. The participants were divided into two groups, one with positive and one with negative sound design. The influence on perceived emotions, empathy and anticipated plot was then investigated by means of a questionnaire and statistically analyzed. This thesis concludes that sound design has partially significant effects on perceived emotions, especially negative emotions. Tendencies in empathy and anticipation were also evident, indicating that sound design influences these areas. An additional examination of the influence of audio playback devices on the strength of the effects found, indicated that headphones/speakers can lead to a more effective sound design compared to cell phone/laptop speakers. In summary, this work can conclude that an influence of sound design on emotion, empathy and action anticipation can be assumed. Therefore, it is mandatory for the music industry as well as researchers to determine which factors are affecting consumers intention to use music streaming services. This study aims to investigate drivers of Behavioral Intention (BI) to use a music streaming service. Particularly, aspects of social preferences in the context of music streaming will be explored. Therefore, a research model is created, based on the Value-based Adoption Model (VAM) (Kim et al., 2007) with an extension to take social factors into account. An online questionnaire with 102 participants was conducted to test the research model and the corresponding hypotheses. In order to evaluate reliable indications, some adjustments needed to be made resulting in a corrected research model. The final independent variables of the corrected model are Perceived Value (PV) (which is composed of Perceived Usefulness (PU) and Perceived Enjoyment (PE)), Perceived Ease of Use (PEU), Perceived Price Value (PPV), Facilitating Conditions (FC), Perceived Fairness (PF), Social Connectivity (SC), and Peer-Effects (PFX). Die 163 Teilnehmer*innen der Umfrage äußerten sich überwiegend positiv zu vorherrschenden Schalldruckpegeln. Mehr als 80% der Teilnehmer*innen würden Musik-Veranstaltungen, die auf Lautstärken von bis zu 118 dB LCeq,15min und 99 dB LAeq,30min begrenzt sind, regelmäßig besuchen. Ein signifikanter Zusammenhang zwischen dem Besuchsverhalten und Schalldruckpegel-Schwankungen unterhalb der definierten Grenzwerte um bis zu 9 dB(A,C) konnte nicht festgestellt werden. Bei Veranstaltungen der in dieser Studie überprüften Musik-Genre werden Schalldruckpegel-Begrenzungen auf 118 dB LCeq,15min und 99 dB LAeq,30min vom Publikum akzeptiert und können von Veranstalter*innen zum Schutz des Gehörs der Besucher*innen ohne Einfluss auf das Besuchsverhalten und damit einhergehende wirtschaftliche Aspekte einer Veranstaltung angewandt werden. N2 - This study examines how visitors of music events accept sound level limits using a Cweighted sound level limit. Unlike A-weighted filters C-weighted filters can assist in assessing the risk of noise-induced hearing loss caused by the high low-frequency sound levels of electronic music such as techno. Accordingly, C- and A-weighted sound level limits, based on a French regulation for the protection of audiences at events from high sound pressure levels (Décret no 2017-1244) and the German norm DIN15905-5, were set at seven events playing the music genres EDM, techno, tech-house, psy-trance and dubstep. The visitors of the events willing to participate in the study were queried regarding their acceptance of the music volume as well as their participation in events with the same music volume. The 163 participants of the survey gave mainly positive feedback on the sound pressure levels used. More than 80% of the participants said that they would attend music events with a music volume limited to 118 dB LCeq,15min and 99 dB LAeq,30min on a regular basis. No significant correlation could be observed between participation and a variation of the sound pressure levels of up to 9 dB(A,C) below said limits. At events playing the music genres examined in this study sound level limits of 118 dB LCeq,15min and 99 dB LAeq,30min are accepted by the audience and can be applied by event organizers to protect the visitors’ hearing without affecting the participation of visitors and, accordingly, the revenues of the event. We here challenge the generalizability of music-based coping by testing whether the insufficient satisfaction of distinct needs during the first lockdown entails enhanced listening to beat-based music with medium complexity (BBMMC) stimulating the cortico-striatal reward circuit and triggering oxytocinergic propagation. A Quasi-Bayesian mediation analysis on open-source data revealed that, across 11 European countries, more severe social distancing measures evoke a decline in experienced social provision (SP), in turn provoking BBMMC preferences. The latter was best predicted by the SP dimensions of social reward and attachment, suggesting that the partial overlap in neurophysiological processing at dopaminergic and oxytocinergic sites enables BBMMC to specifically alleviate these socioemotional needs, which has important implications for the development of mental health interventions. Finally, a stress-alleviating effect of BBMMC was found pointing towards HPA-activity modulation through music listening. To help those affected, we have developed a simple algorithm for the real-time identification of the sigmatismus lateralis in ”S” sounds within speech via analysis in the frequency domain. The algorithm identifies peaks within the lisp’s frequency band after calibration. A frequency band of 3000-4000 Hz has been identified to be generally accurate for lisp and 2500-3000 Hz for the correct pronunciation for a single male test subject. The algorithm splits given speech recordings into smaller segments and compares the number of lisps and non-lisps detected in these segments to categorize. From tests, it was concluded that a segment length of 0.5 s produces the best results. The algorithm does not detect every lisp section, however it does not raise false positives. Our implementation in Julia with multi-threaded per-file analysis is able to analyze 20 files of lengths between 5 s and 10 s within 0.21 s on a Qualcomm Snapdragon 860 smartphone chipset, meaning analysis is far faster than real-time. The proposed algorithm is a simple prototype algorithm capable of realtime analysis of audio in the frequency domain to identify whether lateral lisps are the dominant sibilant pronunciation in a given window. The method was only tested for a single test subject. However, a calibration algorithm capable of adjusting parameters to new individuals is proposed. The algorithm itself should be easily expandable to identify other speech impediments.
