Rituals are also common in obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD). In contrast to OCD, the proposed associations between rituals and intrusive thoughts/appearance preoccupation have not been empirically investigated for BDD. We examined if the assumed effect of gazing rituals on attractiveness ratings exists and if it is associated with dissociation. In an experiment, we asked N = 65 non-clinical females to focus on the nose of a photographed face at pre- and post-test. In between, participants gazed at the nose of either the same (relevant gazing) or another face (irrelevant gazing). We found increasing dissociation after gazing in both conditions and a differentially stronger decrease of attractiveness ratings in the relevant gazing condition. Our findings support the hypothesized effect of gazing rituals on attractiveness evaluation in cognitive-behavioral models for BDD.}, language = {en} } @inproceedings{WilczekSteffensWeinzierl2019, author = {Wilczek, Tobias and Steffens, Jochen and Weinzierl, Stefan}, title = {Room acoustics, soundscapes and customer satisfaction in restaurants - a field study}, series = {Proceedings of the International Symposium on Room Acoustics (ISRA) 2019, Amsterdam, Netherlands.}, booktitle = {Proceedings of the International Symposium on Room Acoustics (ISRA) 2019, Amsterdam, Netherlands.}, editor = {Lautenbach, Margriet and Witew, Ingo B. and de Vries, Diemer and Hornikx, Maarten}, publisher = {Nederlands Akoestisch Genootschap}, address = {Heerde}, isbn = {978-90-9032895-9}, doi = {10.18154/RWTH-CONV-240148}, pages = {854 -- 857}, year = {2019}, language = {en} } @inproceedings{SteffensMuellerSchulzetal.2019, author = {Steffens, Jochen and M{\"u}ller, Franz and Schulz, Melanie and Gibson, Samuel}, title = {Cognitive load influences the evaluation of complex acoustical scenarios}, series = {Proceedings of the 23rd International Congress on Acoustics}, booktitle = {Proceedings of the 23rd International Congress on Acoustics}, publisher = {Deutsche Gesellschaft f{\"u}r Akustik e.V.}, address = {Aachen}, isbn = {978-3-939296-15-7}, doi = {10.18154/RWTH-CONV-239577}, year = {2019}, language = {en} } @inproceedings{LuizardSteffensWeinzierl2019, author = {Luizard, Paul and Steffens, Jochen and Weinzierl, Stefan}, title = {Adaptation of singers to physical and virtual room acoustics}, series = {Proceedings of the International Symposium on Room Acoustics (ISRA) 2019, Amsterdam, Netherlands.}, booktitle = {Proceedings of the International Symposium on Room Acoustics (ISRA) 2019, Amsterdam, Netherlands.}, editor = {Lautenbach, Margriet and Witew, Ingo B. and de Vries, Diemer and Hornikx, Maarten}, publisher = {Nederlands Akoestisch Genootschap}, address = {Heerde}, isbn = {978-90-9032895-9}, doi = {10.18154/RWTH-CONV-240115}, year = {2019}, language = {en} } @inproceedings{JakobsBoeldtSelbachetal.2019, author = {Jakobs, Christoph and B{\"o}ldt, Sebastian and Selbach, Dustin and Steffens, Jochen}, title = {Extreme response style in listening tests}, series = {Proceedings of the 23rd International Congress on Acoustics: integrating 4th EAA Euroregio 2019 : 9-13 September 2019 in Aachen, Germany}, booktitle = {Proceedings of the 23rd International Congress on Acoustics: integrating 4th EAA Euroregio 2019 : 9-13 September 2019 in Aachen, Germany}, address = {Aachen}, isbn = {978-3-939296-15-7}, doi = {10.18154/RWTH-CONV-239966}, year = {2019}, language = {en} } @article{EurichKlenznerOehler2019, author = {Eurich, Bernhard and Klenzner, Thomas and Oehler, Michael}, title = {Impact of room acoustic parameters on speech and music perception among participants with cochlear implants}, series = {Hearing research}, volume = {377}, journal = {Hearing research}, publisher = {Elsevier}, doi = {10.1016/j.heares.2019.03.012}, pages = {122 -- 132}, year = {2019}, language = {en} } @article{AdamatzkySchnaussHuber2019, author = {Adamatzky, Andrew and Schnauß, J{\"o}rg and Huber, Florian}, title = {Actin droplet machine}, series = {Royal Society Open Science}, volume = {6}, journal = {Royal Society Open Science}, number = {12}, publisher = {Royal Soc. The actin bundle network is conductive to travelling excitations, i.e. impulses. The machine is interfaced with an arbitrary selected set of k electrodes through which stimuli, binary strings of length k represented by impulses generated on the electrodes, are applied and responses are recorded. The responses are recorded in a form of impulses and then converted to binary strings. The machine's state is a binary string of length k: if there is an impulse recorded on the ith electrode, there is a '1' in the ith position of the string, and '0' otherwise. We present a design of the machine and analyse its state transition graphs.
