To increase the efficiency and economic viability of TEGs, research is performed on the materials on one hand and on the system connection on the other. In the latter case, the net output power of the cooling system plays a key role. At first glance, passive cooling seems preferable to active cooling because it does not affect the net electrical output power. However, as shown in the present review, the active cooling is to be preferred for net output power. The situation is similar in air and water-cooling. Even though air-cooling is easier to set up, the water-cooling should be preferred to achieve higher net output power. It is shown that microchannel cooling has similar hydraulic performance to conventional cooling and inserts increase the net output power of TEG. Listening to music before, during, or after sports is a common phenomenon, yet its functions and effects on performance, cognition, and behavior remain to be investigated. In this study we present a novel approach to the role of music in sports and exercise that focuses on the notion of musical self-enhancement (Elvers, 2016). We derived the following hypotheses from this framework: listening to motivational music will (i) enhance self-evaluative cognition, (ii) improve performance in a ball game, and (iii) evoke greater risk-taking behavior. To evaluate the hypotheses, we conducted a between-groups experiment (N = 150) testing the effectiveness of both an experimenter playlist and a participant-selected playlist in comparison to a no-music control condition. All participants performed a ball-throwing task developed by Decharms and Dav{\´e} (1965), consisting of two parts: First, participants threw the ball from fixed distances into a funnel basket. During this task, performance was measured. In the second part, the participants themselves chose distances from the basket, which allowed their risk-taking behavior to be assessed. The results indicate that listening to motivational music led to greater risk taking but did not improve ball-throwing performance. This effect was more pronounced in male participants and among those who listened to their own playlists. Furthermore, self-selected music enhanced state self-esteem in participants who were performing well but not in those who were performing poorly. We also discuss further implications for the notion of musical self-enhancement. // Listening to music before, during, or after sports is a common phenomenon, yet its functions and effects on performance, cognition, and behavior remain to be investigated. Recently, however, researchers have begun to bridge this gap by employing tools from behavioural economics. This article contributes to the literature by providing a discussion about the benefits of using behavioural economics in music-decision research. We achieve this in two ways. First, through a systematic review, we identify the current state of the literature within four key areas of behavioural economics-heuristics and biases, social decision-making, behavioural time preferences, and dual-process theory. Second, taking findings of the literature as a starting point, we demonstrate how behavioural economics can inform future research. The implementation of innovative control and optimization algorithms, such as Nonlinear Model Predictive Control, requires an online estimation of operating states of biogas plants. This state estimation allows for optimal control and operating decisions according to the actual state of a plant. In this paper such a state estimator is developed using a calibrated simulation model of a full-scale biogas plant, which is based on the Anaerobic Digestion Model No.1. The use of advanced pattern recognition methods shows that model states can be predicted from basic online measurements such as biogas production, CH4 and CO2 content in the biogas, pH value and substrate feed volume of known substrates. The machine learning methods used are trained and evaluated using synthetic data created with the biogas plant model simulating over a wide range of possible plant operating regions. Although weaknesses in the relationship between spectral similarity scores and the true structural similarities have been described, little development of alternative scores has been undertaken. Here, we introduce Spec2Vec, a novel spectral similarity score inspired by a natural language processing algorithm-Word2Vec. Spec2Vec learns fragmental relationships within a large set of spectral data to derive abstract spectral embeddings that can be used to assess spectral similarities. Using data derived from GNPS MS/MS libraries including spectra for nearly 13,000 unique molecules, we show how Spec2Vec scores correlate better with structural similarity than cosine-based scores. We demonstrate the advantages of Spec2Vec in library matching and molecular networking. Typical metrics like intersection-over-union (IoU), precisionrecallcurves or average precision (AP) quantify the performance over a whole database of images, neglecting spatial performance variations. But as the optics of camera systems are spatially variable over the field of view, the performance of ML-based algorithms is also a function of space, which we show in simulation: A realistic objective lens based on a Cooke-triplet that exhibits typical optical aberrations like astigmatism and chromatic aberration, all variable over field, is modeled. The model is then applied to a subset of the BDD100k dataset with spatially-varying kernels. We then quantify local changes in the performance of the pre-trained Mask R-CNN algorithm. Our examples demonstrate the spatial dependence of the performance of ML-based algorithms from the optical quality over field, highlighting the need to take the spatial dimension into account when training ML-based algorithms, especially when looking forward to autonomous driving applications.}, language = {en} } @article{BrummelMuellerBraun2022, author = {Brummel, Mattis and M{\"u}ller, Patrick and Braun, Alexander}, title = {Spatial precision and recall indices to assess the performance of instance segmentation algorithms}, series = {Electronic Imaging}, volume = {34}, journal = {Electronic Imaging}, number = {16}, publisher = {Society for Imaging Science and Technology}, issn = {2470-1173}, doi = {10.2352/EI.2022.34.16.AVM-101}, url = {http://nbn-resolving.de/urn:nbn:de:hbz:due62-opus-41552}, pages = {1 -- 6}, year = {2022}, language = {en} } @article{vanRiessenFehlau2021, author = {van Rießen, Anne and Fehlau, Michael}, title = {Sozialr{\"a}umliche Analysemethoden im Kontext von Digitalisierung}, series = {Sozialraum.de}, volume = {2}, journal = {Sozialraum.de}, number = {13}, issn = {1868-2596}, year = {2021}, language = {de} } @article{LuizardSteffensWeinzierl2020, author = {Luizard, Paul and Steffens, Jochen and Weinzierl, Stefan}, title = {Singing in different rooms: Common or individual adaptation patterns to the acoustic conditions?}, series = {The Journal of the Acoustical Society of America}, volume = {147}, journal = {The Journal of the Acoustical Society of America}, number = {2}, publisher = {ASA}, doi = {10.1121/10.0000715}, year = {2020}, language = {en} } @article{GlembinAdamDeidertetal.2012, author = {Glembin, Jens and Adam, Mario and Deidert, J{\"o}rn and Jagnow, Kati and Rockendorf, Gunter and Wirth, Hans Peter}, title = {Simulation and Evaluation of Different Boiler Implementations and Configurations in Solar Thermal Combi Systems}, series = {Energy Procedia}, volume = {30}, journal = {Energy Procedia}, publisher = {Elsevier}, doi = {10.1016/j.egypro.2012.11.070}, url = {http://nbn-resolving.de/urn:nbn:de:hbz:due62-opus-27350}, pages = {601 -- 610}, year = {2012}, language = {en} } @article{JungePuringPiontekSmialkowskietal.2017, author = {Junge Puring, Kai and Piontek, Stefan and Smialkowski, Mathias and Burfeind, Jens and Kaluza, Stefan and Doetsch, Christian and Apfel, Ulf-Peter}, title = {Simple Methods for the Preparation of Non-noble Metal Bulk-electrodes for Electrocatalytic Applications}, series = {Journal of visualized experiments : JoVE}, journal = {Journal of visualized experiments : JoVE}, number = {124}, publisher = {JoVE}, issn = {1940-087X}, doi = {10.3791/56087}, year = {2017}, abstract = {The rock material pentlandite with the composition Fe4.5Ni4.5S8 was synthesized via high temperature synthesis from the elements. In contrast to classical man-made machines, much of the cellular organization originates from inherent self-assembly and self-organization allowing a high degree of autonomy for various functional units. Recent experimental and theoretical studies revealed numerous examples of cytoskeleton components that arrange and organize in a self-regulative way. In the present review we want to shortly summarize some of the principle mechanisms that are able to inherently trigger and regulate the cytoskeleton organization. While the formation of the lamellipodium is increasingly well understood, organizational principles underlying the emergence of the lamellum are just beginning to be unraveled. We report here on a 1D mathematical model which describes the reaction-diffusion processes of a polarized actin network in steady state, and reproduces essential characteristics of the lamellipodium-lamellum system. We observe a steep gradient in filament lengths at the protruding edge, a local depolymerization maximum a few microns behind the edge, as well as a differential dominance of the network destabilizer ADF/cofilin and the stabilizer tropomyosin. We identify simple and robust organizational principles giving rise to the derived network characteristics, uncoupled from the specifics of any molecular implementation, and thus plausibly valid across cell types. An analysis of network length dependence on physico-chemical system parameters implies that to limit array treadmilling to cellular dimensions, network growth has to be truncated by mechanisms other than aging-induced depolymerization, e.g., by myosin-associated network dissociation at the transition to the cell body. The previous measurements of other authors are taken as the basis for the problem formulation and validation, whereby the latter is performed by comparing the predicted sink velocities with those measured in an Owen tube. To enable a computational treatment, the measured shapes of the eggs are parametrized by idealizing them in terms of elementary geometric forms. As the egg shapes show a variation within each class, "mean" shapes are considered. The sink velocities are obtained through the computationally obtained drag coefficients. The latter are defined by means of steady-state calculations. Predicted sink velocities are compared with the measured ones. It is observed that the calculated values show a better agreement with the measurements, for ASC and TRI, compared to the theoretical sink values delivered by the Stokes theory. However, the observed agreement is still found not to be very satisfactory, indicating the role of further parameters, such as the uncertainties in the characterization of egg shapes or flocculation effects even in clean tap water.}, language = {en} } @article{BenimIqbalJoosetal.2016, author = {Benim, Ali Cemal and Iqbal, Sohail and Joos, Franz and Wiedermann, Alexander}, title = {Numerical Analysis of Turbulent Combustion in a Model Swirl Gas Turbine Combustor}, series = {Journal of Combustion}, volume = {2016}, journal = {Journal of Combustion}, publisher = {Hindawi}, issn = {2090-1968}, doi = {10.1155/2016/2572035}, url = {http://nbn-resolving.de/urn:nbn:de:hbz:due62-opus-28044}, pages = {1 -- 12}, year = {2016}, language = {en} } @article{PfeiffelmannBenimJoos2018, author = {Pfeiffelmann, Bj{\"o}rn and Benim, Ali Cemal and Joos, Franz}, title = {Numerical analysis of liquid jet impingement cooling of a thermoelectric generator}, series = {MATEC Web of Conferences}, volume = {240}, journal = {MATEC Web of Conferences}, publisher = {edp sciences}, issn = {2261-236X}, doi = {10.1051/matecconf/201824001032}, url = {http://nbn-resolving.de/urn:nbn:de:hbz:due62-opus-27988}, year = {2018}, language = {en} } @article{IqbalPfeiffelmannBenimetal.2018, author = {Iqbal, Sohail and Pfeiffelmann, Bj{\"o}rn and Benim, Ali Cemal and Joos, Franz}, title = {Numerical analysis of lifted hydrogen flame}, series = {MATEC Web of Conferences}, volume = {240}, journal = {MATEC Web of Conferences}, publisher = {edp sciences}, issn = {2261-236X}, doi = {10.1051/matecconf/201824001014}, url = {http://nbn-resolving.de/urn:nbn:de:hbz:due62-opus-27950}, year = {2018}, language = {en} } @article{VossMusall2011, author = {Voss, Karsten and Musall, Eike}, title = {Null- und Plusenergiegeb{\"a}ude: Allgemeine Bilanzierungsverfahren und Schnittstellen zur normativen Praxis in Deutschland}, series = {EnEVaktuell}, journal = {EnEVaktuell}, number = {IV}, publisher = {DIN Deutsches Institut f{\"u}r Normung e.V.}, pages = {3 -- 5}, year = {2011}, abstract = {Die Begriffe „Nullenergiehaus" oder „Plusenergiehaus" sind in den letzten Jahren national und international zum Inbegriff f{\"u}r die konsequente Zusammenf{\"u}hrung von Maßnahmen zur drastischen Energieeinsparung und optimierter, dezentraler Nutzung erneuerbarer Energien geworden. In the light of autonomous driving new optical metrics are becoming more and more popular for specifying optical quality requirements for the windshield. Nevertheless, the link between those quantities and the refractive power needs to be established in order to ensure a holistic requirement profile for the windshield. As a consequence, traceable high-resolution refractive power measurements are still required for the glass quality assessment. Standard measurement systems using Moir{\´e} patterns for refractive power monitoring in the automotive industry are highly resolution limited, wherefore they are insufficient for evaluating the camera window area. Consequently, there is a need for more sophisticated refractive power measurement systems that provide a higher spatial resolution. In addition, a calibration procedure has to be developed in order to guarantee for comparability of the measurement results. For increasing the resolution, a measurement setup based on an auto-correlation algorithm is tested in this paper. Furthermore, a calibration procedure is established by using a single reference lens with a nominal refractive power of 100 km-1. For the calibration of the entire measurement range of the system, the lens is tilted by an inclination angle orthogonal to the optical axis. The effective refractive power is then given by the Kerkhof model. By adopting the measurement and calibration procedure presented in this paper, glass suppliers in the automotive industry will be able to detect relevant manufacturing defects within the camera window area more accurately paving the way for a holistic quality assurance of the windshield for future advanced driver-assistance system (ADAS) functionalities. Concurrently, the traceability of the measurement results is ensured by establishing a calibration chain based on a single reference lens, which is traced back to international standards.}, language = {en} } @article{HaeuslerSchedler2016, author = {H{\"a}usler, Alexander and Schedler, Jan}, title = {Neue Formen einer fl{\"u}chtlingsfeindlichen sozialen Bewegung von rechts}, series = {Forschungsjournal Soziale Bewegungen}, volume = {29}, journal = {Forschungsjournal Soziale Bewegungen}, number = {2}, publisher = {De Gruyter}, issn = {2365-9890}, doi = {10.1515/fjsb-2016-0203}, pages = {11 -- 20}, year = {2016}, language = {de} } @article{GnahsFischerMaierGutheil2016, author = {Gnahs, Dieter and Fischer, Veronika and Maier-Gutheil, Cornelia}, title = {Neue B{\"u}cher aus der Weiterbildungsforschung}, series = {Zeitschrift f{\"u}r Weiterbildungsforschung}, volume = {39}, journal = {Zeitschrift f{\"u}r Weiterbildungsforschung}, number = {1}, publisher = {Springer Nature}, doi = {10.1007/s40955-016-0051-3}, pages = {117 -- 122}, year = {2016}, language = {de} } @article{MuellerBraun2023, author = {M{\"u}ller, Patrick and Braun, Alexander}, title = {MTF as a performance indicator for AI algorithms?}, series = {Electronic Imaging: Society for Imaging Science and Technology}, volume = {35}, journal = {Electronic Imaging: Society for Imaging Science and Technology}, number = {16}, publisher = {Society for Imaging Sciences and Technology}, issn = {2470-1173}, doi = {10.2352/EI.2023.35.16.AVM-125}, pages = {1 -- 7}, year = {2023}, abstract = {Abstract The modulation-transfer function (MTF) is a fundamental optical metric to measure the optical quality of an imaging system. In the automotive industry it is used to qualify camera systems for ADAS/AD. Each modern ADAS/AD system includes evaluation algorithms for environment perception and decision making that are based on AI/ML methods and neural networks. The performance of these AI algorithms is measured by established metrics like Average Precision (AP) or precision-recall-curves. In this article we research the robustness of the link between the optical quality metric and the AI performance metric. A series of numerical experiments were performed with object detection and instance segmentation algorithms (cars, pedestrians) evaluated on image databases with varying optical quality. We demonstrate with these that for strong optical aberrations a distinct performance loss is apparent, but that for subtle optical quality differences - as might arise during production tolerances - this link does not exhibit a satisfactory correlation. This calls into question how reliable the current industry practice is where a produced camera is tested end-of-line (EOL) with the MTF, and fixed MTF thresholds are used to qualify the performance of the camera-under-test.}, language = {en} } @article{HubervanderBurgvanderHooftetal.2021, author = {Huber, Florian and van der Burg, Sven and van der Hooft, Justin J. Mass fragmentation spectra are generally considered to be characteristic signatures of the chemical compound they originate from, yet the chemical structure itself usually cannot be easily deduced from the spectrum. Often, spectral similarity measures are used as a proxy for structural similarity but this approach is strongly limited by a generally poor correlation between both metrics. Here, we propose MS2DeepScore: a novel Siamese neural network to predict the structural similarity between two chemical structures solely based on their MS/MS fragmentation spectra. Using a cleaned dataset of > 100,000 mass spectra of about 15,000 unique known compounds, we trained MS2DeepScore to predict structural similarity scores for spectrum pairs with high accuracy. In addition, sampling different model varieties through Monte-Carlo Dropout is used to further improve the predictions and assess the model's prediction uncertainty. On 3600 spectra of 500 unseen compounds, MS2DeepScore is able to identify highly-reliable structural matches and to predict Tanimoto scores for pairs of molecules based on their fragment spectra with a root mean squared error of about 0.15. Furthermore, the prediction uncertainty estimate can be used to select a subset of predictions with a root mean squared error of about 0.1. Furthermore, we demonstrate that MS2DeepScore outperforms classical spectral similarity measures in retrieving chemically related compound pairs from large mass spectral datasets, thereby illustrating its potential for spectral library matching. Finally, MS2DeepScore can also be used to create chemically meaningful mass spectral embeddings that could be used to cluster large numbers of spectra. Added to the recently introduced unsupervised Spec2Vec metric, we believe that machine learning-supported mass spectral similarity measures have great potential for a range of metabolomics data processing pipelines.}, language = {en} } @article{AgneseSalvador2012, author = {Agnese, Pablo and Salvador, Pablo F.}, title = {More alike than different: the Spanish and Irish labour markets before and after the crisis}, series = {IZA Journal of European Labor Studies}, volume = {1}, journal = {IZA Journal of European Labor Studies}, number = {1}, publisher = {Springer Nature}, issn = {2193-9012}, doi = {10.1186/2193-9012-1-9}, url = {http://nbn-resolving.de/urn:nbn:de:hbz:due62-opus-28185}, pages = {9}, year = {2012}, language = {en} } @article{GalbanMaderwaldEggebrechtetal.2005, author = {Galban, Craig and Maderwald, Stefan and Eggebrecht, Holger and Grote, Wolfgang and de Greiff, A. and Uffmann, K. and Ladd, M. Statistical learning procedures on multilevel regression models and multilevel structural equation modeling were used to determine the most important predictors and analyze mediation processes between person, situation, functions of listening, and music selection. Results revealed that the features of music selected in daily life were predominantly determined by situational characteristics, whereas consistent individual differences were of minor importance. Functions of music listening were found to act as a mediator between characteristics of the situation and music-selection behavior. The transport processes in a system involving triple convective phenomena, irregular geometry, and boundary conditions constitute a complex phenomenon. This work aims to explore the mixed thermo-bioconvection of magnetically susceptible fluid containing copper nanoparticles and oxytactic bacteria in a novel W-shaped porous cavity. The buoyant convention is generated due to the isothermal heating at the wavy bottom wall, whereas the mixed convection is induced due to the shearing motion of the top-cooled sliding wall. Furthermore, the bioconvection is induced due to the manifestation of oxytactic bacteria or organisms. The inclined sidewalls are insulated. The geometry is packed with water based Cu nanoparticle mixed porous structure, which is subjected to a magnetizing field acted horizontally. The complex transport equations are transformed into nondimensional forms, which are then computed using the finite volume-based developed code. The coupled triple-convective flow physics are explored for a wide range of involved controlling parameters, which could provide helpful insight to the system designer for its proper operation. The shape of geometry can be considered one of the important parameters to control the heat and mass transport phenomena.
